I think Dark Knight came close, there was some good stuff in there, but still not as good or as iconic as Elfman's Batman.

I want to see it too though. To me the scores for a lot of these movies have just lacked that classic iconic sound of movies from the 80's and 90's.

Now I think some of these movies had some decent music, but I just never thought the music in Iron Man and Iron Man 2 kicked it into high gear. Cap was good, but I needed some more of the really good stuff.

Watching Serenity on Syfy is getting me aroused with the possibilities of what Joss will do with this.

Aroused! :o

Williams' "Superman March" was the perfect superhero theme. It's kind of unfair to compare other stuff to it.

What was wrong with Cap's score?
AB man, you have some picky tastes. lol

Well, honestly, I think it coulda been miles better, specifically given the canvas he had to work on.

When people say it had an Indy or Star Wars trilogy vibe, I ask myself "Have they ever heard John Williams???"

Silvestri's music always brings one word to mind for me: generic.

There's no depth to his composing. Hell, there are better composers than Silvestri out there that do strictly trailer work instead of full-length features.

Out of all the MCU films, Thor & TIH had the best scores & still didn't leave much of an impact on me.

John Powell I think has been the best in the genre since it resurfaced through X-Men in 2000 (prior to that, Elfman takes the cake).

The score for X3 was simply marvelous. Larger than life, epic & dazzling. But that's John Powell for ya', and that's who Marvel Studios shoulda gone after for The Avengers.

Then again, he's gotten pretty pricey now coming off the Oscar nod.

Naturally, I love what Zimmer's done for the Nolan Batman films, but I wouldn't want him for Avengers. I love the man's music though.

Aside from Powell (which was ideal), I woulda gone after Eric Serra or Marc Streitenfeld.

With Silvestri, I'm expecting yet another forgettable score with truck-loads of generic themes.

Cap had a GREAT score.

Zimmer has gotten incredibly lazy these days, or he's just run out of inspiration. When he just ripped his own Gladiator score off to put in the Pirates movies it became hard to take him seriously.

This is true, however, his scores for The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, Batman Begins and a few tracks from The Dark Knight have been awe-inspiring.

And supposedly, his TDKR score will be his greatest masterpiece (ex. The chant/theme for Bane is f**king epic, thus far).

Any appreciation I have for the Cap score is immediately diluted when I listen to 'The Mummy Returns' and am reminded about how incredible Silvestri can be. And it's not like TMR was this amazing film which would have spurred Silvestri to write such an epic score. I think he's seriously lost his way in recent years.

I thought he wrote a good score that's mostly servicable to the film. I definitely prefer this over his recent action scores. Eventhough it's in the same vein as his GIJOE and A-team scores. With that said it could've been a heck of a lot better. Red Skull, Peggy, the Cosmic Cube, and Hydra all lacked themes. And while the Captain America March is good. The theme is underused in the score. And not taken to it's full advantage, imo. I think a good theme can and should do many things but not just one thing. His CA march is mostly heroic and that's about it. I like a theme to do a variety of things and not just one thing. Everyone likes to compare this to Williams' Superman and Elfman's Batman, which gets on my nerves (when people do that). But I don't think this even stacks up to Horner's Rocketeer or Edward Shearmur's Sky Captain &TWOT score either. Or even Silvestri's own Judge Dredd score. It's a shame this could've been up their with the greats. With all it's potential. But it's just somewhere in the middle of the best comic book movie scores, imo. A missed opportunity no matter how good it was.

I hope for The Avengers Silvestri writes something more than just good , great, or serviceable. I hope he writes something where the movie wouldn't be as effective without his score. To the point the score is a character in the film itself. I know that won't happen though.

other than Silvestri scoring, nothing I've heard RH.

....you know that could go on forever?

The guy did the score for Beowulf, thats more than enough for me
