Rourke is an idiot, but I do feel Iron man 2 had a "we're playing it safe" aura to it with the story. It's still an entertaining film, but I don't consider it a great sequel the way I consider movies like Wrath of Khan or Empire Strikes Back, or The Dark Knight.

Its just funny because from the looks of things, Immortals is going to be inferior, both critically and commercially to IM2

the problem i think is the ones that always seem to have the recipie for succsess after the film wasnt that good
...but like i said it's just a sequel...
i mean it can't be as good as the first one...and yeah i'm aware of you all trying to say there where good follow ups....it's still no the same...
we are all oversatturated....it won't be the same kick after that...we need three four or seven sequels......
but we have lost the same amount of joy we felt after the very first .....(i mean same in terms of hype about a movie) or about anything...i guess....

I always find it weird the dislike I see for IM2 sometimes... I liked it more than the first movie. Iron Man isn't a character I care that much about anyway, I just like the movies thanks to RDJ. IM2 was just a much "funner" movie to me. I did not care for Iron Monger nor do I like dead behind the eyes Paltrow... she's just so bland and boring. Howard and his nasally voice annoyed me too. I actually liked the SHIELD addition to IM2, and Whiplash was pretty cool even if it turns out Rourke is a *****e.

I can honestly say I enjoyed them both the same amount. Heck to be perfectly honest there were parts of Iron Man 2 that I preferred over the first, specifically the action scenes and any shot of the suit. Though the differences were subtle, the suit used in the second film was far superior to the one in the first in my eyes.
I don't agree with the IM2 hate in the slightest though I can understand some people's grievances.

I'll be happy to never see Rourke in another movie. Jesus Christ, what a scumbag. I'd even like for him to be recast as Marv in Sin City 2. Under all that makeup and prosthetics no one would be able to tell it wasn't him anyway.

Well, I'd be frustrated too if I went all the way to Russia to learn the language and dialect, spent time in a Russian prison just to get into character only to have my role cut in half by a studio.

I don't want to sound hypocritical because I'm on record for liking IM2 as well as Rourke's performance. I could tell he worked really hard on the role even though there wasn't much to see. His frustration is completely valid, because at the end of the day Whiplash was kind of a generic villain with poor who we could tell was going to be easily disposed of, which isn't what Rourke wanted to do with the character.

I don't think anyone should write off Rourke as a croc just because he has something against Marvel. Do I like all of his movies? Not really, but he is seasoned, he's been in the business for a while and understands the whole studio vs director scuffle. The guy isn't really in the wrong.
