Ya, he was my original choice if they were to cast a young somebody not already featured in film. He had the looks, the voice, and the audience from TV which I'm sure would've helped him put butts in the seat.

Could he have pulled off a supremely straight-laced Steve Rogers? Perhaps. He's never really gotten a chance to, but it's all moot now.

After seeing The Social Network it's just too damn bad Armie Hammer is so tall because to me he was the perfect Steve Rogers.
