The Avengers The Avengers Post Screening Review & Discussion Thread (SPOILER FILLED) - Part 1

To me, the *number* of villains a hero (or hero team) faces isn't as much of a problem as the number of subplots tied in. For instance, a Spidey movie featuring the Sinister Six would work just fine, because even though you've got six villains, they're a team and they're all working towards the same goal (kicking Spidey's ass). Whereas in Spidey 3, you get 3 villains (Sandman, Venom, and New Goblin) who have very different subplots and story arcs, and Raimi just jammed them awkwardly together in a mishmash that made no sense.

I don't really see the purpose of using spoiler tags in this thread it was ment to be spoiler filled. The people that don't want to be spoiled should just stay away from the thread all together.

I just mentioned it as he said he didn't wanna possibly ruin it for others! :woot:

Ah, here it is info on THOR II

The "Thor" sequel is expected to feature a large cast of Aasgardians and creatures in the Norse mythology-set world.

Thor 2 is expected to double its cast of larger than life Aasgardians and mythical Norse creatures, making it one of the largest scale Marvel adventures to date, second only to The Avengers

Here's more

“[Thor 2 will] primarily be the journey of that character, of he and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and how the new dynamic with his father is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds.”

On that last point, Feige promises the script by Don Payne “take Thor literally to other worlds.” Hit the jump for more on The Nine Worlds.

That sounds intense. Smart move though .... Hemsworth is their new golden boy.

I think the Skrulls were originally intended to be in the movie, but when it all started to leak they quickly changed their identity to Chitauri (heh). Fiege and Joss have said before that the aliens identity doesn't have an impact on the story so they could be easily changed. Alternatively, remember those Skrulls spoilers from WAY back, when the Avengers script leaked? Well that was probably from Zak Penn's version.

So they skrulls can never be in a movie because people will always assume that when a alien race gets introduced it will be the srkull?

The Skrull and The Chitauri are different races, even in the Ultimate Universe.

In the Ultimate Universe, there are is in fact a race called the skrulls and they resemble the 616 Skrulls.

From Wiki:

That was added in later though...almost a sort of retcon.

The Chitauri were originally the ultimate version of the Skrull...they even say they had been called many names, one of which was Skrull. But the Ultimate 616-looking Skrulls were written in much later.

So do we think the Aliens are the Chitauri?? :woot: Thoughts?

If that's the case they might as well never introduce a popular alien race into any film.

Really?! I didn't know Sony Pictures was in that much trouble.

Yep. They sold ASM merchandising rights and won't be paying for ASM 3D glasses...meaning if you go see ASM in 3D, you now have to pay for the glasses. If ASM isn't a hit, I think Sony Pictures goes byebye.

I'm pretty sure Bosef confirmed they were the ****auri. And one of the Devin whats-his-name confirmed they were ****auri also.

Spoiler tags dude!

Why? The whole thread is marked with "Spoiler filled". So everybody who takes a look at this thread should expect to see spoilers.

BTW, some hours ago the alien's name was written in this thread a dozen times without spoiler tags.

I think that's the wrong attitude to have. And I don't that's neccessarily your attitude, either, but...if anything, Avengers should make people want both more solo films and more Avengers films. If its a question of scale comparison, then the answer is fairly obvious: Make the solo films a little bigger. The comics have gone from world altering stories to personal tales and back and forth for decades. Movies could easily do so as well.

They need to develop these characters somehow. "Joining a team" isn't the end all be all for them and their mythologies. I don't see too much invididual character development happening in The Avengers and even its sequels, so its likely going to be left up to the solo films to do so.

The wrong attitude? LOL ...... it's a natural reaction after seeing the movie all factors considered.

Also, does anybody know why the hell tickets for Avengers haven't gone on sale in all cinemas yet? My nearest Vue is in Eastleigh (Southern England, near Southampton, pretty big city and cinema imo) and there are no tickets for Avengers yet. I'm actually starting to worry. It's extremely unlikely that the movie would not show there, when I went to see The Hunger Games the other day there were Avengers posters and banners everywhere, and an Avengers standee. Oh and the Avengers trailer was shown.

My post was misconstrued.

I was just suggesting that he use spoiler tags if he wanted to reveal the alien's name without spoiling it for someone as he feared he might do.

Clearly should have explained that...apologies!

From Wiki:

Yeah, but the Wiki article you quote says that is only true for an alternate timeline in the Ultimate Universe.

I understand the article the in the main timeline of the Ultimate Universe, there are no Skrulls. There are only Chitauri who clain that they are called Skrulls by some races.

Bosef

Any mention of Spider-Man? The rumor mill says that Coulson will be in ASM and Spidey mentioned in Avengers.

Ah. Now I undestand. Sorry.

It's kinda like thinking that after reading the Kree/Skrull War saga in the Avengers comics, one couldn't be satisfied going back to reading solo Cap, IM, Thor, etc. stories. I think there's room for epic Avengers films and smaller solo outings and that both can satisfy.

It's like having the vacation of a lifetime and then trying to put a happy face on stay-cations. LOL. It just is what it is. Most of the previous individual films could use a little upping of the ante.

Ah. Now I undestand. Sorry.

No apology necessary. I'll have to be a bit clearer next time haha.

So on the topic of the aliens, now that it's been hinted/kinda confirmed that they may be
The Chitauri
....what are people's thoughts?

For a "SPOILER FILLED" thread, it sure is lite on the spoilers.

i can understand him wanting us to not be spoiled, its epicness must be fresh in our minds. However we have a 'spoiler' thread for a reason, some of us want the goods early which wont effect us seeing it. However as much as we want, we can only get what he is willing to give. So we do with what we can, he has been nice enough to give some vague direction of where the film goes.

Your guess is as good as mine. ;)
And if it boiled down to some dispute with Fox over the name (a lot of people assume that Fox owned the rights to Skrulls since they were primarily part of FF lore), then there's still a dozen or so more popular and recognizable alien races Marvel Studios could've used. Pseudo-Chitauri Cannon Fodder are a cop-out, especially after all the build-up and mystery surrounding the identity of "Loki's Army."

Yes, and they've maintained that they aren't a huge player and the race doesn't realy matter. As to why they kept it a secret; good promotial tactic. Think about it. Nerds raged for months on imdb, here, cbm etc... about who they were. Discussion = awareness.

Guys, check out the post-credits scene thread.......... NOW!

Drummerdude, I must ask you, are you a drummer? I am one myself :P
