The Avengers The Avengers Post Screening Review & Discussion Thread (SPOILER FILLED) - Part 5

The tagline for this should have been "Bring some extra underwear, because you will crap yourself in delight for over two hours."

I was blown away. On the way home I was thinking of all the components that could have been mishandled or ended up being completely ruined without the proper level of care. It's just unbelievable that this movie exists. All I want now is to see more of these characters.

It was really, really good. Not perfect and not my favorite movie based on a comic, but it is up there. The opening was really well done and the final battle was a true classic. Loki is the man.

I found it funny that some stretches were a little long and yet I felt that we really didn't get enough Cap or Thor. Cap didn't get his "moment" and almost felt lost and irrelevant half way through the film. Thor had his moments, but it just felt like he wasn't around enough.

Funny, I think Hawkeye had the least screen time, but I felt he had a really, really good impact on the film.

I am in love with Hill. :D

Also, it is still kind of odd that Thor looks out of place. Loki didn't, but Thor did.

So many people kept calling Thanos "Darkseid" as I walked out....They'll learn, They'll learn. The Galaga and adoption jokes got the biggest laughs aside from Hulks beatdown of Loki. Just a great film.

The crowd I was in had at least 10 people shout out Thanos in a very celebratory manner.

Yep, they will learn Thanos is simply inferior. :cwink:

Good to know :yay:

I'm sorry, I didn't mean it as a DC vs Marvel thing.:yay: I just meant they'll learn the difference. I think Batman is easily cooler than Nite Owl, but I heard people calling Nite Owl Batman after the Watchmen trailer and I said the same thing.

I was joking. Sorry if it didn't come off that way.

I got a few "who is that", but not much else. I pretty sure most who held back for the scene knew what was coming so not a lot of shock or surprise.

No need to apologize. I heard a few "Thanos", but just as much or more "Darksieds" and one old guy asked "Is that Ant-Man?"...

Do people know who Darksied is? That just seems... strange. That Ant-Man line is hilarious.

Did Darksied make many appearances in Superman TAS or Justice League? Thats the only thing I can think of. Most people saying it would be around the age where they were probably younger kids when the shows originally aired, so maybe they were exposed to him then, but you would think they would know Supes isn't Marvel. I don't know.

He showed up a few times, but he was not nearly as common place as the other villain. I guess will just have to chalk it up to weirdness.

I just remembered something that I might not remember... Did they over show why Widow's wrist thingy lit up?

she uses the widows bite close up on the back of an aliens head pretty much in desperation. considering it's shown in the suiting up segment it's not used much.

I just got back from it and I adored it. I've had trouble with the last two Marvel films because I think they got too commercial but this... this was a perfect movie!

On a side note, I'm really glad that people seem to have a good grasp of the characters. Even non comic book people are able to say "It was cool when Thor etc". That may not sound like a big deal but even in Lord of the Rings people still said things like "I liked the elf guy" rather than saying Legolas.

That's a very big deal in my opinion, especially when most people didn't even know who Thor was a few years ago.

As of today, The Avengers is in top 5 comic book movies of all time. I can't believe that Marvel and Whedon pulled it off. Truly a spectacular film, and it has something for everyone to enjoy.

Kevin Feige is the baddest dude in the movie industry.

Joss Whedon is also pretty badd.

The moment I knew they had pulled this off was when the Helicarrier lifted off and we walked onto the bridge. Nothing else has yet felt like stepping so completely into the world of Marvel comics.

I really love things about Iron Man 2 and Captain America, but those films have problems, especially in the third acts, that make them feel painfully botched, considering that there's probably no do-over. The Steve Rogers hour of Cap is good; once he fully becomes Captain America, the movie largely stops working. Iron Man 2 is fun, it's hilarious, the Monaco scene is great. The fight at the Stark Expo doesn't work. There's probably no second shot at a period Cap film. I don't know if there's a second shot at an Iron Man/War Machine "buddy" action film (which is what I'd really hoped IM2 would be, and which it managed to be for about 90 fun seconds towards the end.) Avengers tries something more complex and ambitious than either of those films and it works.

This is not just the culmination of Marvel's output until now, this is the new standard and the beginning of their future. They've got license to start going crazy. "Cautiously crazy," I'd expect, knowing them, but Thanos is a promise that crazy things are coming. Their next "solo" films still have to work. They can't afford more as dysfunctional as Cap and IM2 and they definitely can't afford to do worse than that. If you watch their progression, though, from 2008 to 2010 to 2011 to 2012, they seem to get closer each year to figuring out exactly what they want to be doing as a studio. It shows.

After this, I totally believe they could throw Beta Ray Bill into a Thor sequel and make it work. I believe they can make that Guardians movie with Groot and Rocket Raccoon. You're gonna see Black Bolt. Dr. Strange can meet Eternity and the other huge, "abstract" entities. A lot of this might be on the other side of Avengers 2, but this is where they're heading. I never thought anyone would be able to do this.

No Beta Ray Bill please, nothing against the character but one Thor is enough for me.

I haven't seen an answer to this yet but when....

the aliens surround Hulk and start pummeling him with their weapons, how does he get out of that?

It doesn't really show it, [BLACKOUT]it just cuts to another scene and when it cuts back Hulk has a bloody nose.[/BLACKOUT]

it's not shown so you'll just have to make it up yourself.

Isn't that when the "mother ship" gets taken out, and all the aliens more or less drop dead?
