Arrow The Barry Allen/The Flash Thread

Maybe the kid will dye his hair blond.

Well... I'm pretty sure we would know well before that, but I get your meaning.

I just don't see DC/Warner Bros. setting up two separate, unrelated live action continuities. If you're setting up a shared universe, set up A shared universe. A full-fledged, in-costume Flash on TV and a full-fledged, in-costume Flash on film is just cause for confusion. And, yes, I know there are some of you ready and waiting with your Superman Returns/Smallville argument, but the show wasn't called Superman, it was called Smallville, he wasn't wearing a costume and that mother****er didn't step one foot off the ground. Night and day. The way they've made their intentions with Barry sound, they're really going all-out, and if a JL movie ever happens and if they should use the character, they will be doing the same. I say treat the series as his own franchise. Where Captain America has The First Avenger and The Winter Soldier away from The Avengers franchise, Flash will have this series to stand as his non-team franchise. Arrow/Flash/Man Of Steel/Superman vs. Batman. All one world.
I used to think this as well, but it really seems like they're stupid enough to let this chance past them by and are going to have multiple live-action universes. Don't be surprised if after JL they make a new DC TV show that's set in the film universe but not the Arrow universe. This is really stupid.

I don't know if he'd go full blonde like the above pics of Barry, because that would probably look ridiculous, but he could stand to go a few shades lighter.

I think we're assuming alot here. Every company/studio makes missteps from time to time, but I really don't think they're that foolish.

Perhaps I'm hoping for too much here, but I really think this is going somewhere towards a shared universe on film and TV.

I don't think Gustin is going to be Flash in the big screen. It seems Warner will do the same thing they did with SR and Smallville (two different versions of a character). Then there's the scheduling conflict, these movies take around six months to shoot, so it would mess up the tv show season. I think is better to keep both separate, they would not have to worry about continuity issues and have more creative freedom.

I definitely don't think they'll tie the TV universe with the movie verse

They should keep the universes separate. If the general audience can accept Ben Affleck's Batman as a totally new Batman that has nothing to do with Nolan's universe then they will be able to accept a movie Flash and a TV Flash. They were able to do it with Superman Returns and Smallville.

That's not really the same thing tough, since the Nolan films are over and there won't be any more.
But yes, apparently there was no confusion with SR and Smallville, I wasn't in on the hype back then so I wouldn't know.

People aren't stupid. They can tell the difference. And there is no guarantee that Flash will get his own show or that it will last long.

To be fair, at this rate, I think the chances of the character showing up on film are alot more slim than this series happening.

You can't compare Smallville and Superman Returns to having a Flash TV show and a Flash film though. Smallville was going to be cancelled but Singer saved it saying they could co exist cause Smallville's before he puts on the costume whereas Superman Returns was a costumed Superman. So its not the same at all.

I highly doubt we'll be getting a movie version and a TV version of the Flash at the same time unless its the same actor.

meh so Clark wasn't in costume, he was still Clark Kent and she was still Lois Lane. People still knew that Smallville was about a young Superman.

They would probably make the costumes different enough to distinguish between the two anyway.

Wow really? They were gonna cancel a show that had been on for 5 years just cuz there was gonna be a Superman movie which was not connected to the show?

In fairness to WB, although everybody signed contracts for 7 years the series bible initially only catered for 5 (hence 6 & 7 essentially having no direction).

It had seemed like it worked perfectly for WB.

They could, the TV version being a young Barry Allen's first years as the Flash, and a more experienced one for the JL film.

Here:

iF: It’s pretty rare to have a feature film [SUPERMAN RETURNS], while you’re still on TV. When you first started the show, you told me D.C. was nervous about you and Miles dipping into the comic book well too much because of the revisionist SUPERMAN movie in development. Did they get concerned when SUPERMAN RETURNS was finally greenlit since it is more in line with the original films, much like SMALLVILLE is?

GOUGH: The great thing ultimately, was our biggest savior was Bryan Singer. Bryan was a fan of the show. We had a gentleman’s agreement. Miles, myself, Bryan, [SUPERMAN RETURNS scribes] Dan [Harris] and Mike [Dougherty] the writers, we would keep each other in the loop. Bryan invited us down to Australia. We sort of pitched out Season Five. Bryan offered to let us read the script and we said “well, quite frankly we don’t want that responsibility. But you tell us if any of this is conflicting or things that are not going to jive and things you want us to stay away from.” For a television show, you have that flexibility. And it was a great working relationship. Before that, when it was the McG version of the movie and it was another origin story and Krypton didn’t blow up, and Lex Luthor was a Kryptonian -- there was a year there where it was very tough, in that weird kind of way. We were in the weird position of arguing 60 years of comics history to them, where they were willing to have a planet where Superman is on Earth but Krypton still existed. It was bizarre. Thankfully Bryan came in and said, I don’t want to do SMALLVILLE, I want to do a SUPERMAN movie, and he did SUPERMAN RETURNS.

It doesn't really say that WB was going to cancel the show. They were just concerned about having 2 iterations of the same character out there.

But both in costume? I don't think you can do that.

It is ludicrous that WB was concerned about two version of Superman being around a the same time. Do they really think that their audience is that stupid? However, why would you WANT to have two versions, its just unnecessary? Have the same version in the films/show, but put him in different situations in each.

As anxious as I am to see what the costume will look like, that's ONLY if they do a Flash tv series....so we may not see it for a while, if we see it at all.

Pretty sure we'll see it in Arrow S2 Episode 20, even if he does just end up making it at the end of the episode since that serves as the pilot.

I hope they put some real effort into making the costume great. They got an Oscar winner to design Arrow's look and it's literally just a hooded jacket and leather pants. Spare no expense here, guys. You've got David Nutter to do the pilot, find someone who really knows their **** to do the costume.

Arrow's costume is badass, except that he should have a mask. Flash's costume will be more "traditional" from what the showrunners have already said.

Yeah, I have no problem with the costume. It's just kind of weird they brought on an Oscar winning costume designer to do something so simple and low-maintenance.

To be fair though when it comes o Green Arrow that's pretty much the best way to modernise his costume. The Flash is obviously a different kettle of fish as he has a cowl and a tight fitting costume.
