Patrick Wilson as Batman is a stretch. His best acting involves playing passive nice guys.

I LITERALLY tried to cast people that had not been mentioned before. Whether a good reason for it or not. I sincerely don't think there is an actor out there that can play Batman right now. Wes Bentley looks like could MAYBE play Nightwing, but is otherwise too young for my taste. Bruce/Bats needs to be in this mid 30s so the actor needs to pass for mid 30s. Somerholder Would be okay again for maybe Dick Grayson but just looks too young to play Batman. Plus I don't even want to think about the jokes that would ensue should Somerholder be cast. Jon Hamm would be too old by time this came down the pipe and he has already mentioned that in his opinion the superhero thing is for younger guys. I mean if I could FORCE anyone to do it, Jon Hamm. Passes for mid 30s, has that Jaw structure that I believe Bruce has to have, but wont happen.

So I went with people that I think could definitely pull off the part or would be interesting to give them different kinds of roles and see what would happen. I mean it would NEVER come to fruition anyway, but to me it's a little more fun to think about the odd ball casting ideas than try to type cast someone. Just my $.02.

Also can't the same be said of Michael Keaton really? I mean most fans declare him as the best live actor to portray the Bats, but his other roles were nothing like him as Bruce. It's called acting. The ability to ACT like a character. All it takes is one different kind of role to see an actor differently.

No matter what anyone says about their hunches or trying to cast an actor, NO ONE including myself, thought Heath Ledger made sense as Joker. We see a bit of footage and mine blown. So I am no longer interested in thinking castings that make sense. Sure casting the WRONG person is just as bad but I don't think there is anyone I suggested that is WRONG. Just not the typical go-to list of actors, especially for superhero movies. Bentley was in a, pretty awful, SHM already. Somerhalder is thrown around a lot. History shows us that the unusual picks usually work out better.

Maybe you're looking at older pictures. I know Wes has a young look (great for sequels), but he could definitely pass for 30s.

His age lines up well with Cavill's Superman.

I like Keaton, because I was 5 when I first saw Batman 89, but I'm not too fond of his portrayal. The characterization of Bats/Bruce is also one of the things that I don't like In Burton movies.

I would like to see Bruce like he was in the 70's, charming, and more light hearted, but still mature and dark.

I agree about what you say though, they shouldn't take an actor because he looks like the character, they should choose him because of his acting skills.

I think Jim Caviezel is my pick at the moment. He's great at dark roles, and a terrific actor to boot.

Plus he's not really famous at the moment, he hit his peak already, I'd like an up and comer for the role.................................................someone like Wes Bentley. I saw the fall last night, it convinced me that Pace COULD do Batman, but it made me realize how much I want someone who looks more like Batman. His looks are not at all Batman like, and I realize he is an actor and looks are secondary, but if we can get someone who looks and acts like the character, that's a much better option imo

This is somewhat hypocritical of me because I support Gosling for Bats, but after Drive, I couldn't not think how much of a kickass Batman he'd make. Especially teamed with Winding Refn

So many contradictions...

First you say you don't want someone famous. Then you admit that Caviezel isn't really that famous. Then you say Caviezel's career peaked so he isn't a good choice (?). Then you say Wes Bently's career peaked but he is a good choice.

Caviezel's a great actor and he's never been an A-list star. IMHO he's in a place in his career right now similar to where Bale was before Begins. I think he fits the role rather well. Your reasons for discounting him don't make much sense to me.
