The Batman Reboot Casting Thread - Part 5

You need to go established star for Batman. That's how it's always been, superman is usually the unknown but the actor for batman is not.

I don't mean known in just the fan boy sense as well. This new actor is going to have a lot to burden so I hope they go with someone who already has a successful track record as an actor and with the public?

In what world?

Christian Bale was a star before BB? Nope. Look at his "big" movie roles before 2005. Was Keaton an established star? Somewhat, yeah, but mostly as a comedic actor, which is why his casting was so wildly controversial.

For some reason, I keep coming back to David Giuntoli from NBC's Grimm. I think he's got a good look, charisma, he's 33, has somewhat of a cult following and he's capable of humor but also has something of a dark streak to him. I think he's got pretty much the whole package, the only question is if he has the gravitas to carry a film. I suspect that like a lot of TV actors who make the transition, he could, given the right material.

Bale was a very established actor, American Psycho was his break-out role not to mention he had several other film roles to his credit by then. In 2005 he wasn't an unknown entity, I didn't even follow the movie industry nearly as much back then and I knew who he was when he was cast. Keaton was established we don't need to go into that, Kilmer was pretty well known for about a decade before he took on the role. Clooney for better or worst was the star of the #1 rated TV show in the country.

Compare that to Reeve, Routh or Cavill who we're either on their first film role or still waiting for their break through.

Finally, I got a bite with Giuntoli! Or at least a nibble. :oldrazz:

I know it's kind of a long shot, but I feel like this role is a wild card right now and anything can happen. I also have to admit...it'd be nice to see an American in the role again.

I don't understand why that makes any difference to anyone.

Because it's MURICA! :cmad:

That guy looks a lot like Brandon Routh.

For the look, I'd rather have someone with a real rugged old hollywood handsome look. Like a young Bogart or something, rather than someone with a square jaw but otherwise pretty soft, feminine features (like Armie Hammer).

It's not a huge deal at all. I'm as big a Bale fan as you'll find on this site and I won't be upset if the role goes to another Brit/international actor. Just saying it'd be a nice change of pace is all, considering it's an American character.

I mean, I don't think an American being cast as James Bond would fly with most people, and that's fine. I'm all for British actors playing American superheroes, and I think Garfield, Bale and Cavill are all great. Give the part to the actor deserves it the most. I'm just saying it wouldn't be such a bad thing if that actor HAPPENED to be American this time.

Henry Cavill as Kal-El/Clark Kent/Superman
Tyler Hoechlin as Bruce Wayne/Batman
Amy Adams as Lois Lane
Mark Strong as Lex Luthor
James Franco as Joker
Laurence Fishbourne as Perry White
Timothy Dalton as Alfred Pennyworth
Diane Lane as Martha Kent
Michael Kelly as Steve Lombard
Dennis Quaid as Commisioner Gordon

New member here. I'm a big fan of the Nolan/Bale batman, and it will be sad to see a new actor in his place. (Still hold a little hope for him returning).

I think Batman should be older and wiser than Superman, and my suggestion is Jim Caviezel. I've only seen him in Person on Interest and The Count of Monte Christo, so I'm not 100% sure on his ability to play such a role, but I think he should at least be asked to audition (If that's how it works).

Batman 4 years younger than Superman? Pass.

25 does seem too young for Batman, particularly at an advanced stage in his career.

My preference is an actor who looks as old as Cavill. I don't care what an actor's chronological age is as long as he looks old enough.

I'd like an actor with some decent big screen experience because this isn't Television, we need an actor who can do well on the big screen. I'm not saying that television actors are lesser actors but the big screen is a different story not every small screen star can translate.

This is an excellent choice to play batman in the upcoming films batman will appear in.

But they are NOT REBOOTS. His origin is not planned to be retold...and the films are not dedicated explicitly to Batman. That does not constitute a REBOOT. Just a film starring the character of BATMAN.

I think you're splitting hairs.

I like this choice a lot. He's incredibke in The Thin Red Line.

David Giuntoli from NBC's Grimm

Wow. This guy has a great look for Bruce Wayne (it helps that he has striking good looks :word:). May lack the ruggedness for Batman, but then again I'm not entirely familiar with this actor, so he may have the talent to pull it off.

Jim Caviezel can totally pull off Batman, but idk, it seems like it would be best to cast an actor closer to Cavill's age (then again we have no idea what their plans are for this new Batman). Plus, it's kinda weird to cast someone who played Henry Cavill's father in The Count of Monte Cristo (although in reality there's only a 14 year age difference).

I really want Jon Hamm now. Or Caviezel. Somebody who isn't as young. But ill probably have to accept a younger actor when announced.

Giuntoli is a black hole of charisma in Grimm. No thanks.

AICN seems to have heard that they are looking for an unknown actor in his early 30's for this, which, if true, would rule out all but one of my picks. Dammit. :(

Honestly, I don't watch Grimm. I caught the show once way back and he caught my eye as someone who had a good look for Bruce and I thought he had a cool presence. It's an extreme longshot, but right now there's no one else I'm attached to for the role so I'm just having fun with it.

That said, I just watched some clips of him on YT and he has a cool, raspy angry-yet calm voice when he's interrogating people. I still do see the potential there.

I'd be totally down with a complete unknown though.

So, what do you guys think of the Tyler Hoechlin screen testing rumours? Could he pull off Batman?

I haven't seen him act since Road to Perdition, which obviously doesn't make for the best Batman litmus test, lol. So I'll say he looks the part well enough, but that's as far as my opinion goes.

I haven't seen Hoechlin in anything since Road to Perdition, but I actually really like his look. He's young but could just as easily be in his early 30s. This type is most likely what they are looking for. He could play batman for 20 years if he were cast now. I would really like to see Urban in the role, but I think the studio will be looking more along the lines of Hoechlin.
