The Batman Spoiler Discussion Thread

This move is very self aware. I love how all the cops in the crime scene sequences were totally befuddled and weirded out by the Batman.

That’s what separates this film from a Snyder movie. It wasn’t played totally straight. The movie acknowledges the inherent silliness of the character.

Anyone else noticed the shot, in the first Bruce's voiceover, of the Chicago Board Trade building from BB/TDK and the red/brown iron bridge from BB?

I smiled, it was like coming home.

In the ending monologue I think there's another little reference to Nolan: Bruce says something like "Things gonna go worse before they go better", like Alfred says to Bruce after Rachel's death.

I love the quotes and the references in this movie.
I don't think it's derivative or not-original, is respect for mythology and love for the genre and the characters.

In a way, it's a method similar to Tarantino in Kill Bill.

I too noticed all of that. I wasn't 100% sure about the Chicago stuff in the beginning, but I was pretty sure and was waiting to see if anyone else noticed it. I definitely know what you mean, it hit me with some nostalgia feels. It can't be accidental.

With the whole multiverse angle of DC now, can't help but make me feel like these are at least in "neighboring" universes. :yay:

"He's wearin' gloves" got a big laugh at both of my screenings.

Dat eye acting.

i really feel that pattinson's performance took the best parts of keaton's and bale's, then added his own thing to it, and mixed it in a blender.

i'm starting to feel he's my favorite batman so far.

he reminded me of the batman from the comics written by denny o'neil, steve englehart, jim starlin, and mike w. barr.

So, I went and saw it Tuesday and really, really liked it. I don't know that I liked Pattinson's BM better than Bale's, but it was pretty close and a noticeable step up from the previous version.

Boy, they sure didn't play up the socialite Bruce Wayne. LOL.

I've been to south LaSalle street a couple of times, I actually stayed at the hotel that's right next to it. It's actually feels smaller in real life in comparison to the scene in TDK.

I loved how the road under the trains on the way to Wayne Tower [The Batman] was an upgraded cgi enhanced rendition of Grant Park's west-side trainyards.

It does seem smaller, as does Lower Wacker street which is the tunnel where the caravan chase was shot. Nolan and Pfister really made those Chicago streets feel larger than life.

I love how seamlessly they combined Chicago and Liverpool to create Gotham. Kudos to the art department and Matt.

you would be hard pressed to notice the seams. Cough Rises cough.

Not to mention Glasgow

Which brings me to this funny short

"Rises" was really lazy IMO. They could have at least edited out the unfinished One World trade tower.

It's weird because Matt himself pronounces Falcone the right way with the e at the end. I think most of the cast did as well in interviews and such. So it was definitely a deliberate decision to make the characters say Fal-cone not Fal-cohn-ee

Fal(cone) is correct.

There’s about 4 other cells around Riddler and Joker. Do any of you think they’re already occupied and if so, who do you think are in them?
I thought about that, and I would think that'd be the case. Especially if they're doing it comics/TAS style and having them lined up.

I think one might contain Cell Man. What they don't know is that being locked in a cell is when his powers are at their most potent. Cell Man will be the next main villain in the Batman franchise.

I think the obvious assumption is the new DA will be Harvey Dent. If this is the case, how quickly do you think he’ll be introduced? And where? I hope the TV spin-offs have the kind of prestige feel where they can introduce big name characters and have them easily transition between the movies and TV.

In order to do something different from TDK, I think it would be interesting something like that:

- In The Batman 2 you introduce Dent as new DA but give him a screentime similar to Penguin in TB. He makes a deal with Gordon and Batman to take down the Mob, but things are too complicated with the city to rebuild and gangs war with many crime families, so Dent is able to open a trial against Maroni (out from prison after TB scandal) only at the end of the movie.

- In an HBOMax series you show how, during the trial, the double personality of Dent rises into him and, in the last episode, he becomes Two Face.

- In The Batman 3 Two Face is the main villain alongside Joker and others.

Rataalada loading screen is now at 84%. We'll get something tonight most likely.
