Beyond the surface I see propably really good movie. But my cinical side is telling me... Seven wannabe with BvS fight scenes and even more grounded reality like in Nolan's movies. Nothing new.

PS. Saying that Batman Beings (one of the best origin movies) and TDK (cult classic) is not that hard to top... It's like people who said now that No Way Home is the best spider-man movie ever made.

I don't think it will be tough to top Nolan's stuff. As the Nolan Batman movies are not even close to being the best thing that can be achieved with this character. Not just with the world in general, but with the character of Bruce Wayne specifically. Nolan's Bruce was dull and surface level and didn't capture the spirit of the character in many ways. Batman Begins was the best Batman of the three.

The Batman shares very few similarities with Se7en other than the basic premise and a somewhat similar aesthetic. It's far closer to the movies Reeves has actually cited as influences (Chinatown, Klute, etc). If anything, TDK is in some ways a ripoff of Heat (which is much better than TDK). And No Way Home being the best Spider-Man movie is a subjective opinion that shouldn't be seen as controversial. Your "observations" are indeed surface level and incredibly mediocre.

It's Batman, my guy. It's like saying Star Wars is a "cult" movie. The movie won an Oscar. It's not exactly a hidden gem.

Many movies have won multiple Oscars and then have fallen into oblivion, but films like TDK (who is 13 years old!) are still alive nonetheless, discussed and treated as something special many years after their released.

Not only bad or underappreciated films become cult classics, also those that were considered amazing at the time of premiere and maintained this status.

Speaking of "Star Wars", I think ANH and ESB are cult classics, first for starting the whole story, the other for perfecting it. On the other hand, Revenge of the Sith is a movie that gained its "cult status" over time.

That is not what it means to be a cult classic. A cult classic by definition has a small, dedicated following. A movie that makes a billion and is considered the height of the genre by definition, can't be a cult classic. It isn't even like TDK has a subculture it appeals to specifically, like Wizard of Oz and how it became a bit of a culture landmark for the gay community. Geekdom is too broad at this point. It is prevailing over culture as a whole. It's why the top 10 highest grossing flicks are all from said community outside of Titanic.

Just because I don't think past Burton or Nolan films are unbeatable....JUST because I think this movie will be the best of the bunch...doesn't mean that suddenly those films are bad. They're good for what they are but I don't see them as untouchable masterpieces or perfect adaptations.

I can’t believe Riddler actually floods Gotham. This seriously blows my mind. I never would have thought we would get a Riddler at that level. It’s like they’ve taken his greatest hits and combined them into one film then turned it up a few notches.
