The Batman Spoiler Discussion Thread

Bladerunner is a cult classic. TDK is simply a classic. A mainstream classic. That’s like saying Back To The Future is a cult classic lmfao..

If The Batman is a Seven rip off then TDK must be a Heat rip off. Come on lol "BvS fights" what?? Lmao so Snyder invented hand to hand combat now? Is this what reaching has come to?

Just because I don't think past Burton or Nolan films are unbeatable....JUST because I think this movie will be the best of the bunch...doesn't mean that suddenly those films are bad. They're good for what they are but I don't see them as untouchable masterpieces or perfect adaptations.

"CULT classic", did TDK have cult following? Yes. The end.

Snyder was the first director that filmed Batman fight scenes like that, no credit huh? Nope.

You sound like a fanboy, you undermine everything about other movies just to hyped up the new one even more.

So the whole walking away and just letting your obvious defeat pass into the night was just too much to hope for?

Why don't you go back and read your little definition from wiki. The part about "inclusive definitions". It shows that the original proper definition of the term "cult classic" would not including the movies you are trying to say it includes. Because once you start down that road, every movie is a cult classic. You are the one reaching bro, and your inability to let it go is not making you sound more right. It just exposes how wrong you are.

I won't quote again definition of "cult classic".

Here's a definition for you

"A cult film, also commonly referred to as a cult classic, is a film with a cult following, obscure or unpopular with mainstream audiences, and often revolutionary or ironically enjoyed"

That doesn't sound like Revenge of the Sith to me.

I have shiny new toy syndrome. Let's get that out of the way before anything else.

I never grew up with the Burton stuff and they're too cartoony for my tastes. Yes, I know "COMIC BOOKS R STOOPID! EMBRACE IT PLZZZZZZZ" but that just sounds dumb, I'm sorry. I just feel like they're way sillier than most people like to admit. And bringing back Keaton for that Flash movie does nothing for me and actually makes me less interested in seeing it.

I grew up with Nolan's stuff; I saw TDKR in theaters and for a short while that was "my" Batman until I started reading more comics. And after seeing them everywhere for years and years and that same Zimmer theme for years and years.....it doesn't do that much for me anymore and as much as it pains me to say it, I sometimes tend to avoid them.
When I'm watching them in the moment, I can easily love them for what they are. But as much as it pains me to say, I'm tired of that "militaristic James Bond" type of aesthetic.

Affleck, I'm not gonna comment on despite liking his BvS suits. And even then I can't imagine that hulking behemoth of a man moving like Spider-Man. And don't start with the "ITS A SUPER HERO MOOBIE" bull****. If you're serious about Batman's superpower being that "he's rich" then you don't get Batman.

With Pattinson, they're doing something different. I've wanted Batman to tackle horror stuff for years now. And Reeves has been saying all the right things from day one, my mind was just too clouded because of Affleck at the time to realize it.

I'm not even close to be as cringey as you and the people who consider movie they haven't even seen as the best movie ever made. This is cringe. Blind fanboyism.

I am trying to be as kind and respectful as I can be when I say that you are really not doing yourself any favors here, man.

Also, just for the record; I'm personally of the mind that while the previous masterpieces of the franchise can absolutely be topped in overall quality, there are certainly specific elements that will always hold their respective value and legacies in tact. Just look at Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns or Aaron Eckhart and Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight.

That doesn't stop me from thinking that we've seen so far of Zoe Kravitz's Selina in the trailers looks very promising and eliciting a very similar quality of performance to that of Pfeiffer's. Whether that ends up being the case? No clue yet, but I'm not being a "blind fanboy" for saying outright how I feel about what I've seen of the film so far.

Much like how my much younger teenager self wasn't being a "blind fanboy" circa 2008 when I saw all the trailers for The Dark Knight and thought, "This film is going to be the best Batman film we've seen yet." And that anticipation I had didn't diminish my love for Batman 89, Batman Returns or Batman Begins.

Likewise the authenticity of my feelings about TDK aren't diminished by the fact that I've since come back around to loving Batman Returns just as much, if not a hair more than TDK. There is no clause to life that one's opinions on something are permanently sealed into place for the rest of time, or that any immediate responses of hype to something new are inauthentic.

In order to be a cult classic or even a cult following , you HAVE to have two things at once. Not one or the other. TWO THINGS AT ONCE. A passionate fanbase for an under appreciated film/record in the eyes of the masses. Nirvana's Nevermind can be never be a cult classic.

If you still don't understand this, then not a soul can help you in this lifetime.

Following the plot leaks about the batman almost beating someone to death in the third act, I was wondering who it might be: one of riddler‘s goons, an unspecific but innocent person dressed up as one of riddler‘s goons, or even someone the batman cares about but doesn‘t recognize in that moment?

I hope this is the right thread for such a question.

Thanks!

Riddler goon. And the perfect thread!

I was just thinking. Do you guys think Alfred's "dear god" line is in response to seeing Gotham flood?

I don't think so. I think he's reacting to one of the murders being streamed.

The other thing I don't think we'll get is the Court of Owls. Some ppl right now in main are talking like this movie will set that up nicely. And I used to believe that too but I don't anymore.

That was because of the owl on the card Riddler sent to Batman, but I knew that people were going to read way too far into it. It’s a fun little Easter egg, but nothing more.

I think that eventually, Arkham Hospital will be destroyed at some point and will be rebuilt as Arkham Asylum so that it can hold the most dangerous of the rogues gallery.

What I hope is that, by the end of the trilogy, everything and everyone involved is fully formed. Batman, his allies, the villains, Gotham itself and acknowledge that Gotham is safe for the moment, but other villains are rising and Batman is ready for them.
