The Batman Spoiler Discussion Thread

Was I the only disappointed that we didn't get a full on Ego scene where Bruce has a hallucination talking to his shadow self ?

Bruce's romantic life?

Let make clarify that this Batman, just as Keaton's and Kilmer's is a total virgin.

Yes, this means Bat-Keaton only cuddled with Vicky Vale when she stayed the night.

Batman must not ****.

It's his one rule.

If you break it he's not Batman.

I'm surprised at its omission too. It was one of the first things Reeves had brought up when talking about this project, I was anticipating it being front and center.

If it weren't for the behind-the-scenes interviews, I would have never guessed it to be an inspiration. It just didn't factor much at all through dialog or performance.

Keaton’s BW threw a charitable house part at his house with lots of Gotham’s “celebs” but that movie makes it seem like no one knows who BW is.
Which I prefer tbh. Different strokes for different folks, but I personally think it makes more sense on a logistical front. I think it would be smarter for Wayne to simply try to keep his name out of the papers and refuse to engage much with the paparazzi, than make a huge spectacle out of his public persona and draw any more needless attention to himself than his social status already forces him to.

True, a lot of amateur sleuths might take a look at that *****ey, 'bro-ish' persona and dismiss him offhand because of it, but the fact that he's inviting them to look at him and entertain him as a suspect in the first place is incredibly and needlessly risky imo. I also just simply prefer it as a characterisation.

I love it in '89 when Vicki Vale is complaining about there being next to nothing in BW's file. It makes me imagine a semi-regular occurrence where Batman breaks into the building and pilfers whatever meagre amount of reporting the paper has managed to write about his more 'respectable' alter ego. :funny:

maybe its just me but does anyone else not want to see playboy bruce persona with Pattinson??

not that he cant do it he certainly has the charm and charisma to pull it off but i feel it would be too jarring to from reclusive disheveled bruce to public ladies man at cocktail parties mingling with elites

i feel a more humanitarian/philanthropist bruce with fundraisers, donating and meeting with community leaders to help gotham would work much better and probably much more relatable
I'm tired of RDJ Tony Stark-esque Bruce Wayne. Philanthropist Bruce is the way to go, especially with the state the city is in right now.

On mention I would really mind having Vicki Vale in sequel. She is exactly type of person Bruce could want to shape his public persona after being non existant in public eye. And wouldnt mind going overall reporter storyline, along her being some kind of alleged romantic interest and with Hush being hinted in first movie.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Vicky Vale, or if they introduce Rupert Thorne as a political threat to Bella Real, they could finally do Silver St Cloud

Can't say I am. We've only had him in the Nolan films. From Burton (to a degree), Kilmer and Clooney, as well as West (animated series, as well) - Bruce was Mr. Philanthropist.

Affleck wasn't Tony Stark-esque, though he wasn't Mr. Philanthropist, either.

But let's also be clear, Bruce was never like Tony Stark.
Tony Stark tried to be Bruce Wayne-esque, if anything.

If they did that, at least, I'd think he had a personality that I could connect and engage with. I didn't really have that in this movie that much.

Bingo. Also, there is a fundamental difference between Playboy Bruce and Playboy Tony. With Bruce, it is an act and a facade. Playboy Bruce is OG like Supes' false Clark Kent persona. With Tony, it is who he is.

Personally, I want an artificial Bruce Wayne public persona. As Leather Wings mentioned, we've got it once. Pattinson is a phenomenal actor and I would love for him to have the chance to play a full-out tripartite role.

He doesn't need to be as much of a DBag as Bale's Bruce persona. They could go more early BTAS. Aloof, well-meaning, but kinda dumb playboy philanthropist.

He's already got a reputation for being the city's most famous recluse, so it would seem a little bit of a stretch if he came out of the gate all smooth and suave and totally comfortable in the public spotlight all of sudden, imo. I expect his Bruce persona to remain a little kooky, odd and distant, with an added dash of "dumb and harmless." But yes, the philanthropy needs to happen.

I get that the take on Bruce helped separate this take, but I can't help but wish we had a slightly different starting point for this Bruce. I think it robs us (no pun intended) of getting some more color and variety from his performance. It was just a bit too one-note for my taste. I understand the point of it, but that doesn't equate to enjoying it.

While it can evolve in the sequels, I agree, it would be a huge stretch for him to suddenly be the smooth, suave public Bruce. I hope they can land somewhere that's enjoyable, wherever it is.

I think back to Keaton's version, and I feel like they were able to strike a balance with that version where there was no doubt he was damaged, single-minded about the mission, weird and aloof, etc.-- but as Bruce, Keaton still has a natural quirky charm and confidence about him that just makes him fun to watch. I don't even think we're anywhere near that at this point, let alone a more classic version of Bruce.

I just think Pattinson has a likeable, lighthearted goofball energy in real life and it'd be great to tap into that a bit for his version of Bruce. Especially knowing how much of a troll he is, and the fact that if he did the playboy act it would totally feel like one big troll that we're all in on. But I'm keeping my expectations in check, I don't want to go in assuming anything because I definitely wouldn't have predicted this particular direction for Bruce in the first place.

I think it would be great if they tried to replicate/expand a funeral type scene for the sequel

Bruce is being dragged to a ritzy high society party. He has no dialogue at all (Echoing the funeral scene)

The high society folk just look at him oddly as he walks around the room.

I don't think we should get an action piece out of the party though. We had something similar with "The Dark Knight"

Long story short. Just show Bruce as an outsider to these other rich folk.

So Lee Bermejo posted some new artwork. Looks like people are thinking it's concept art for Barry's Joker..

The Joker in that image isn’t perma-smiling though - it seems more like scarring?

The end scene definitely showed his teeth even when he was talking normally, this artwork seems a little too subdued to be Barry’s version.

Whatever that facial scarring is does seem to match up with the little glimpse we saw of Barry behind the door. The lack of visible teeth is distinctly missing.

But it's curious how Lee's drastically changing up his iteration of Joker, which has its own unique look from everyone else as well.
