The Dark Knight The Batmobile Thread, Only Better.

I scratchbuilt it. and yes some of the neighbors do gather round' in awe, some don't even seem to notice. Most of my neighbors are older retired, traffic in this cul' de' sac' is minimal at best, so there isn't really a problem. Nighttime driving is best. the 10 halogen lights can light up an entire city block, epecially the pias.

Here's a few pics of my car at bathtime. some of the parts aren't on. I can tell you that basically it's probaly the most practical of all the previous cars.

You built it around a '89 Honda Civic! Didn't you!!!???

In all seriousness though this is super-awesome. I bet it's a ***** to drive though, eh?

How in god's name did you build this? You must be a technician and a metal smith! An Ironmonger if you catch my drift!

Yeah, an afterburner would rock.

It would be sweet to torch the mailman like in Batman Returns.

Yeah, i bet it would be a bit difficult to register a car with an afterburner in our times. Health and safety rules are pretty tight (sarcasm....they are very tight!) in our times.

no, not built around a honda civic LOL. The chassis is also scratch built. exactly like the chassis you see in the BB SE DVD tumbler section. I built it by just studying every reference I could find. almost done. got a few more things to built and put on. am working on the afterburner as we speak. I will have some vids of it moving, the hatch opening up, and the afterburner w/ flames. As far as street legal, say for the sake of argument that it is, probaly not but say it is, would any cop NOT pull you over, epecially in broad daylight. hence nighttime driving is best, black blends in. stay tuned.

My hats off to you sir. I really thought you were trying to pull a fast one on us. But after looking at your site, you are the real deal. I'm just curious, how much would it cost to have a "tumbler" built for a client? And would you run into any copyright issues? I'm going to bookmark your site.......just incase I every win that damn lottery! Would love to see any more pics that you have during the construction.

Just out of curiousity, I'm assuming from your business that you plan to sell this, what would something like a Tumbler cost? And does it have a VIN # so it can be at least registered for Off Highway even if it's not street legal?

Hey, I wants it. You can't haves it!

Seriously though, that's a good question. Your website says you do things for commission. Well, would this count?

As to whether or not I would build this for someone else. NO. this thing is a massive massive hyper-intensive chore to build, and I am glad I did it for myself, but I would never want to have to build it again. period. More work and sacrifice than you can imagine. this car is for me. period. some guys dream of a porche, or a lambo, or ferrari. I never really got into mainstream cars much.
Most of the stuff on our website is for ourselves, alot of it having done over the years. Sometimes we post pics of commisions, sometimes no. for example years ago I did a series of rocks for a pharmacy co. outdoor display. who wants to see fake rocks? Although I have and use one for my own batsuit display.

1) Where did you learn to do all this stuff?
2) How the hell did you make the batsuits?
3) What type of material did you use for the tumbler's outer shell?
4) How did you make the inner skeleton? If you have no technical knowledge, your skeleton might collapse and you could crash badly.
5) What about suspension, soundproofing, engine? Do you have any expertise in those areas? Did you consult anyone? In other words, is this a big HotWheels that moves, or is it a real car? There is a difference.

I just have one last question. What are you powering it with?

actually, two questions

Why can't someone with the time and money to build their own Tumbler mow their lawn? :oldrazz:

You can get lots of automobile technical manuals and manufacturing information online. I mean, look how they did it with the film, they designed a chassis. Some basic physics measurements on force applied on the skeleton is going to get you at least a prototype to bounce around in with some confidence in safety. After that, engines and the like become more complex but not out of the realm of possibilities (think of all the stories of people restoring cars and such).

The real question is, if you won't build one, will you share your blueprints with the rest of us? :)

lol sir I resotre cars I resotred Cameros, and Chargers, and I've put an 89 Burton bodykit on a car for work (6 flags) but I aint ever touched anything as badass as that tumbler though i might have 2 start soon.

last night I tried to answer everyone, I had this huge post going, submitted it, then saw the login screen up. It must have timed me out or something, I lost the huge post you guys were gona get with tons of info. I will try to do in small chunks.

After going back over all the pages and looking at quotes and pictures, have to say it woud be such a shame if the Tumbler is destroyed in this movie, and that you couldn't(and I dont think Nolan would) make a batmobile out of an existing sports car. It just wouldn't be right.
Also who say Bruce makes the Batpod or that it comes from the Tumbler, maybe Lucius built it and gave it to Bruce. No need for it to come from the tumbler. Just an idea.
