The Dark Knight The Batmobile Thread, Only Better.

Just because its not like in teh comics (i.e a sportscar) doesnt mean its not the batmobile.
And stop with the tumbler thing. They gave it a military vehicle origin so that they could justify its existence somehow. They didnt call it the batmobile, not because it wasnt one (its a black armoured car with gadgets that batman stores in his cave => batmobile) but because they didnt want to start using the bat-prefix.

Guys like you probably made them have alfred say "will you be wanting the BATPOD sir?" so that you get convinced that it might not be a black Ducatti, but its the batcycle.

Whatever. You dont like the tumbler? Fine. It still is the batmobile for 2 the duration of two movies. Its just that a black Aston Martin with gadgets will never be able to do the stunts it did in BB.

And if you ask me, it looks great here:

/end of rage.

Dude what's with the latent hostility?

And when did I say that I did not like the Tumbler? All I said was that the Tumbler is not the Batmobile. And that the Batmobile, if they choose to create one, should be sleeker.

Nolan got it right this time I can see Alfred being a former MI-6 agent and not just a crotchity old butler. You have to understand a lot of us comic fans know the history of our favorite characters back and forward.

When these movies come out we more readily recognize the disparities. Nolan captured the spirit and flavor of the characters. And all I am talking about is the details.

The Tumbler is not the Batmobile; that is nothing negative it is just a statement of fact.

But.... the Tumbler is the batmobile. By definition.

yes, the tumbler is the batmobile

I hope the Tumbler will be rebuilt for the next movie. I just love that goddamn black tank.

Before the familiar bat-finned cars, the title "Batmobile" was first used on a red convertible in Detective Comics #48 in February 1941. Most of the design was based on the 1936 Cord, though the nose of the car looked more like that of a Lincoln or similar car. The bat mask did not exist yet, but the car did sport a small "bat" hood ornament.

Several "Proto-Batmobiles" had appeared in comics by this point, though this was was the first to use the name. It was also the last car used before the now famous Batmobiles with the bat-masks and roof fins.

The first vehicle to be called the Batmobile

After the BM above was destroyed Bruce redesigned it

This is the BM closest to the Tumbler.

Most predominantly the BM has been sleek and fast. More of a super Hi-tech Sports Car. This is the 2000 BM from the comics.

Cool info. Thanks. (I love the 2nd, hommaged in TKJ by Bolland).

As far as the OP stated, I've yet to see any conclusive evidence of the Tumbler being destroyed, or even damaged. When the first shots of the Tumbler came out I hated it "NO WAY IS THAT THE BATMOBILE!!!", then I remembered "oh yeah, this is Batman in year 1, he's not gonna have everything we've expected him to have aka a sleek Batmobile." I loved the origin of the Tumbler, its the only good part of a failed project thats now sitting and collecting dust. Bruce had enough to do just with creating his suit, let alone design and create a unique automobile, so take one thats finished and use it. I think the Batpod is just gonna be Batman's new favorite because of its size, he can escape easier with it, and it won't draw as much attention as the Tumbler did.
Remember how Batman rides directly on to the Joker? What if the joker uses his gun? The pod is nice, but come on, dude's got a car that shoots rockets and flies on rooftops!

If you look behind the Batsuit, you'll see 2 tires that resemble those on the Tumbler, but appear the be smaller, like the ones on the Batpod, I bet Bruce was designing and building the Tumbler himself. At first I thought they were spares for the Tumbler, but they look alot thinner, and are probably the Batpod's tires.
I hope he and Fox build it together. But knowing better i'd say that bats has more to do than building a motorcycle. After all, that's not his specialty. It wasnt in the comics and it isnt here. He is more of a detective. Tony Stark is the engineer.

Sorry about the hostility.

Then i suppose that Miller's batmobile isnt the batmobile. Nolan's suit isnt the batsuit (its segmented armour).
Dude you are so blindsighted!

I mean, at first the batmobile was red judging by your pics. Imagine when they made it black. I bet some .....goddamn fanboy like you said: "Its not the batmobile. The batmobile is red!"

Batman's car is called the batmobile. In the year 3000 if people still like batman, his batmobile will have to go with the times. He will probably be having a Beyond type batmobile. Just like the tumbler is so 21st century. Stealth fighter inspired, carrying modern tech, etc.

Just like the batsymbol and the suit have changed over the years....Just like Ironman's suit has changed over the years. Things change, and you cant expect a franchise like that to stay put. I mean, the Tumbler is so goddamn badass and it makes so much sense for batman to have something like that (i still wonder what happens when you shoot its tyres though....). And i also like the new Transformers designs and the Extremis suit, but even if i didnt, i would still appreciate the effort for a change.

Also, that pic with the suit, bruce and the car......It looks so good, i would sell my house to buy it if i could!

I think the Tumbler is awesome and I prefer it to any other Batmobile. I would pick it any day over the B89 one. I even prefer the BTAS one to B89's.

I agree with you man. I love the BTAS batmobile and then second comes the BF. I never liked the B89. Its hideous.
But those are sportscars! They look good but they cant do anything else. This isnt bond.

If Batman is to have a car, its got to be the tumbler. You want to modify it a bit, fine, but its gotta be it! Its so freaking badass!

How was it a joke? It seemed serious and lethal enough to me. I do prefer the Tumbler, though.

This is a ridiculous argument. The Tumbler is obviously the Batmobile. It possess all of the qualities of a Batmobile with an added bonus -- plausibility.

This guy is basically saying that because it didn't literally exist in the comics, it cannot be considerd a Batmobile, which is ludicrous. Yes, these movies are based on the comic book source material, but they are interpretations of it, not a frame by frame reproduction of the comics. By that logic, Nolan's Batman chacter cannot be considered Batman because of his high-tech suit.

Good point. But as Sean Spidey pointed out before it does have a feel of TDKR Batmobile.

I'd say that this is the closest to the Tumbler - The Dark Knight Returns:

I know its kinda cheesy but i like the "moving seat" thing the tumbler does. It didnt really make sense most of the time, but it is so cool riding a car like that.
So who cares?

Yeah the moving seat is kinda superfluous but its a kewl factor.

Come on now in a high speed chase The Burton-mobile would get owned big time from a simple sharp turn

and lethal it carried bombs and blew **** up but that was about the only thing it had that the tumbler didnt have

so far Tumbler owns all other batmobiles

The biggest drawback for the tumbler is a big one, especially if you wanted to fight crime. Is that it only get's like 2 miles to the gallon. I think it was even said on the special features of the begins dvd.

That was only when they used the jet burner. Its MPG was otherwise reasonable. And it wasn't like any other incarnations of the batmobile were fuel efficient.
