The Batsuit Thread

I think the main point here is that a cloth suit would just look dumb and hokey on screen, unlike the TDK/TDKR suit which just looks badass.
Nobody thinks either half of that.

For whatever reason, to me, the TDKR suit looks vastly superior to TDK one. The cowl doesn't look so much like a helmet like it did in TDK, and it seems to fit Bale's face better too, the nose doesn't resemble a beak anymore. The neck looks thicker as well. The cape hangs over the shoulders as opposed to behind, and it just looks....better. The best, IMO, of all the films thus far, with B89 a close second.

I agree. I think they made some minor adjustments. The suit looked wonderful in TDKR.

Just think of the material of the new MOS Superman suit, just grey and with a black cape, a nice utility belt and, yes, trunks...

Agreed, The TDKR Batsuit looks amazing on screen. It is my favorite Nolan Batman trilogy Batsuit.

If Superman can't have the trunks, neither can Batman.

I still think the 89 suit was the best. It was the most classic of all the suits.

I think a lot of that had to do with Bale filling the suit out more than he did in TDK. It just seemed to fit him better, especially the cowl. If they made any adjustments they had to have been very minor.

When Linda Hemming was going interviews pre-release of rises she did say very minor modifications were done to the suit, I dont have the link but that would mean they did actually moderate it slightly somehow.

Since no one's done it yet, here's a quick manip of a MOS manip just to get the idea:

That reminds me: I have no problem with seeing Cavill as Batman or Superman but Bale would look odd as Superman.

I like it. Just keep the belt (or rather a belt) and lose the trunks.

The more I see cloth manips, the more I prefer the armoured suits.

Agree it doesn't need to go the length of Iron Man. I was watching Under the Red Hood and at one point Todd strikes Batman's neck with a knife. There's obvious armour (looks like chainmail) underneath. The knife merely cuts the cloth exterior without harming the armour or the body underneath.

There definitely needs to be something around the waist height to break up the costume a little.

TDK definitely went OTT with all of the plates esp on the lower body but I think a few plates in a few key places would be fine.

NO. Keep the trunks.

I do not believe that there are really people that believe Superman's or Batman's suit does actually look better without the trunks. The only thing that bugs them is the idea that "underwear" over your trousers is silly. Spineless. Pathetic. Don't let them win.

Yeh, it's not "underwear" if it's meant (like the trunks) to be worn out over other clothing. I really don't get this obsession that some have about getting rid of the trunks. Quite frankly, I think this new trunksless look that both Superman and Batman have in the comics looks ridiculous.

Agreed

Maybe Superman can give Batman a Krypton-cloth suit that he can modify for himself. :)

I hate the trunks they serve no purpose other than thats how superheroes were drawn at the time when superheroes were coming out of the woodwork in the early half of the 1900's.

No trunks look ridiculous and the only purpose they serve is to break up the gray, which can be done with other design ideas. The best one I've heard is use harness straps attached to the belt. They would be functional while breaking up the gray and evoking the trunks for a more classic look.
