The BATSUIT Thread

That Armie Hammer cowl is ****ing gorgeous. I wish I hadn’t seen it tbh, it blows Robert Pattinson’s cowl out of the water. I get that a lot of you guys dig the new suit, and I appreciate a lot of the design choices, but I’m not feeling it. The general vibe is interesting and fresh, which I appreciate, it’s just ugly to me.

Summed up perfectly

My thoughts on the suit:

-Mouth opening is too wide. You can see his sideburns.

-The ears are too far back and weirdly shaped.

-The design of the facial portion of the cowl is so basic. This isn’t a huge complaint but I prefer a cowl with a bit more expressive facial definition. In my opinion, when compared to Bale’s and Affleck’s cowls, this is very clearly the worst.

-The chest plate is cool. The entire torso works for me. The belt, legs and boots are all solid. I like the reference to the original emblem.

-The shoulder pads with the lines are awful. That would be fine for Robin (it reminds me of the 90s Tim Drake suit), but not feeling it for Batman.

-Those gauntlets are truly hideous and a serious step back from the excellent TDKT gauntlets. I hate that the spikes are just straps pulled taut. The mess of darts are too gaudy and not sleek looking either.

-I’m surprisingly ok with the collar, but I think I’d prefer no collar.

Overall, it could be a lot worse and there is a lot that I like. But the parts I dislike are so glaring that it’s hard to overlook. I’m trying to keep an open mind, and not trying to be negative, these are just my thoughts on the suit after having some time to sit on it.

Wishful and incredibly unrealistic thinking, but I wouldn’t mind at all if they took this time to tweak the suit.

They could tweak it. I get some of the hate for the suit, but the batmobile is just glorious to me. It’s more than what I wanted at this point in the franchise. My friend texted me saying “the new batmobile is what finally sold me”. It’s just cool as hell.

The suit is unorthodox. It’s all about how it’s lit and its function of course. For now, there’s gonna be a lot of haters bc they’re taking chances. However, I love it more than Nolan’s suits. It’s just so interesting to look at. Very aesthetically pleasing to my eyes. The chest, the movement of the shoulders, the creative symbol/possible batarang, and I love the Dracula esque collar with Pattinson’s jawline more exposed than any previous actor.

The only negative thing I’ve felt so far was when Saarsgard was rumoured to be Dent. I hated that. Then it turned out to be false. I love everything right now. Casting is absolutely bonkers.

That sums it up for me too. I'm here for it, I just think it's ugly and not in a good way. There's a satisfying way to do ugly, if you want to do an ugly Batsuit. But this is just, to me, all around unlikably ugly. I have more love for the Batmobile and I think that it gives the suit some context that I can hang with... but yeah. Rough.

(I do love the collar though.)

The more I think about it, the more I think the suit, minus the cowl, is more like a Robin inspired suit. Imagine Pattison with the cowl off, his floppy hair, panda eyes... that's a pretty decent Robin right there. I can't unsee it now!!

That's actually really on point, ngl...

...With that being said, I like how they got right the muscular shape that the torso should exude, even when doing the armored approach. I can respect the suit for what it is. Interested to see that militant approach on screen.

I look forward to seeing how Matt Reeves shoots it and how it looks in the film (his last two films looked very cinematic and had great visuals).

I imagine the collar is also there to give off that almost "beast"/muscular look from afar, without restricting movement and keeping inline with the vibe. Bale's Begins suit and Affleck had a similar "thick necks", but the suits had an organic look so it was a natural fit. And, to avoid the "bobble head" look TDK/TDKR suits had.

I'm curious if they'll have to reshoot the earlier footage to match the foliage once production picks up in the summer?

don't be afraid.....

That's actually really on point, ngl...

thanks, nice find..
It could be cool if dick or whoever is Robin steels this early suit, as hopefully Bruce has an upgrade and sprays the chest plate red, shoulders green etc and it will look a cool robin outfit, but still within the laws of this reality.
Even without the cowl it still looks like a Batman suit to me.
And it does to me, but only because in recent times, it's been drawn that way - let's be honest, if Matt Reeve's had debuted this costume at a convention, people would be like..... "is that....batman?" it's so different from what we have seen that it could be seen as a trend setter, game changer

Yes it does. Would you say the same about the Dark Knight suit?
Yes. The quality of TDK doesn't make that particular suit better.

Just to be clear, I'm not having a go at anyone that likes this suit, but once you take the cowl and 'bat' symbol away it becomes a generic superhero suit. It might serve the story, but that'll only happen if they make the suit a plot point which is pointless, in my opinion.

If you take the cowl and bat symbol away from any suit, it probably becomes a generic suit.

If you read the comics and take off the cowl and symbol it will look like any generic costume... esp any costume leasing up to new 52

I like the idea of him adapting his suit depending on the mission, task. We kinda saw that in Nolan movies, but for instance, if Bruce is to track and follow someone, it should be like a ninja, stealth uniform, with a smaller, steam lined cape. If he is going into a warehouse, he needs to be fully loaded.
If he is to do recce on someone, where time is the key and stealth, then it should reflect that - of course I don't mean snow storm or air attack but I do feel his classic, stream lined look could happen, on a lesser risk job.

The best TDK suit ever looked in my opinion was in The Dark Knight Rises in the night time scenes when they let the cape drape over the shoulders again. I found it odd they never did that in TDK. I feel Nolan added it as a touch for fans that complained and hated the "towel" cape from TDK.

I hope We get some cool cape porn in this film. I miss it!

I really don't think you thought this through.

Those are literally the two most unique and distinguishable elements of the batsuit iconography. Of course if you (arbitrarily) removed them you'd end up with something plain.

Take the B89 suit (use some imagination to ignore the ears):
