The BATSUIT Thread

Even if I can be considered as conservative when it comes to the Batman look, I think Batman Beyond stripped the suit down to its purest form, showing which elements are critical to be unmistakably seen as a batsuit. The ears and the symbol. The rest, cape, gauntlets, despite being iconic, are not defining.

Yeah, but BB's suit wasn't Bruce Wayne's Batsuit. It's for a different person for a different time. I mean, I see what you're saying, but I think the comparison is apples and oranges. Do you consider Azrael's suit to be a "defining Batsuit"?

Yes. The quality of TDK doesn't make that particular suit better.

Just to be clear, I'm not having a go at anyone that likes this suit, but once you take the cowl and 'bat' symbol away it becomes a generic superhero suit. It might serve the story, but that'll only happen if they make the suit a plot point which is pointless, in my opinion.

I know what you mean and agree, except I'd go further and say it doesn't look like a generic superhero suit but a generic futuristic soldier/guard/cop type costume. You could swap it out with this (and swap the Batsuit into Altered Carbon, which is what this is from) and really not have much of an overall difference in aesthetic.

Personally I think the bodysuit of a batsuit should simply be plainer and smoother, to make the Batman-specific details stand out more. It should be the blank canvas on which all the other elements hang, not the part with the most detailing.

Which is why if they ever made a Batman Beyond movie where the batsuit was jacked up with detail upon detail upon detail like the version in the Arkham games, I'd be incredibly disappointed.

Yeah, the BB suit in AK was terrible....but most of the suits in AK were terrible. I thought the B suit in AC was nice, but they just over designed it in AK.

I like this suit less and less every day...

Starting to not really like that collar. I guess I prefer aesthetics to functionality. I would rather have an awesome suit that is hard to move in than an ugly yet practical suit.

I hear ya, I mean, if the actors looks like he can move in it, I'm happy... I always said, for some scenes, just wear a modified cowl that has seams and joints, let the actor move, then cgi the folds, lines out after.

The cowl from BvS on the body suit of BB and you have a winner, in terms of what looked comfortable.

It just feels like such a step back. It feels like an effort to distance themselves from the DCEU. Unfortunately, the DCEU provided a great springboard for future suits. Would’ve loved to have seen a more classic rendition of the suit on Pattinson. Something like the BvS suit, just sleeker and more animalistic.

There's a dope ass piece of Battinson art on the BOF Facebook page. Can't link to it for some reason.

Tbh seeing fan art of the suit just helps highlight some of the aspects of the design that I can’t stand

Who says a classic rendition can't still happen in the future of Reeves' films?

I'm exactly the opposite, every piece of fan art highlight why the suit is so interesting and new.

I love the Begins suit, and have some fond memories of TDK suit, but they don't translate well to art/comics...

I have some issues with the suit but I don't think it's as bad as people say it is.

Except that's a drawing
Except ... it’s a reality based sketch off a hodge podge of what we already seen from official pics and set pics ...

The only full fledge meant to be seen pic of the Batsuit is from the screen test, and the shots of the Batmobile with Batman in the distance.

This is basically what we’re getting. An MCU Captain America Winter / Lee Bermejo tactical soldier type material in grey with a level of comfortability and bagginess. But with bulletproof armor plating on the shoulders, chest, and abs.

It looks awesome. I’ve grown to like it quite a bit. Waiting to see better more clear pics of Pattinson in the suit. But everything we’ve seen so far is bueno.

The best possible and most ideal translation of the batsuit from the comics would be the approach Snyder took with his supersuit in MoS (which was made by the poeple that made the spidersuits in the Raimi films and that original approach in mind).
Which approach is a realistic adaption of the "spandex" suit seen in 99% of Batman comics (and most superhero comics in general). A natural, organic looking, form-fitting muscle suit that appears to enhance the physique of the man underneath and with movie logic and tech providing all the protection that's expected in the batsuit without sacrificing aesthetics.

The BvS batsuit was almost that but the outer and inner layer didn't mesh with Affleck's physique underneath and thus broke down in its appearance constantly. And somehow the waist region became bloated when worn in comparison to when it stood on its own, which ruined its aesthetic appeal (exactly like in modern bodybuilding with the GH guts).

Batman has to look mythic. The myth of a man being above innocents and criminals. A too tactical looking batsuit ruins his mythical quality and drags him down to our level.

The only exception in the tactical, plated batsuit approach that works is the Arkham Origins one. And that works because Batman is an absolute physical monster in that game accomplishing insane athletic feats with ease and also because he still looks very muscular and the batsuit doesn't sacrifice aesthetics (even with a bottom heavy lower body, which adds to his power and stature). Arkham Origins Batman is a downright beast of a Bruce Wayne in his prime.

Trouble for Ben, is he didn't have the waistline - his waistline in that suit would naturally puff out. Basically he needed Cavil levels waistline.

I get what you are saying, Batman can't look too military - but, people aren't stupid, they know he is human... but...... it's all in the face.. the expressions.. he may be human but he can act crazy, possessed... if he comes up on you in an alley you know he means business and won't be forgiving - like in BvS kinda, minus the machine guns and bat stamp.

A kid will be in awe, impressed.. he's a hero.. this super hero... to a criminal it's worse than a cop on a power trip.
