The BATSUIT Thread

The Batsuit isn't just armor. Heck, it wasn't armor for a good 40+ years. It's a symbol rooted in theatricality. Him coming across as a creature that preys on criminals is more important than the Batsuit being a suit of armor and nothing more.

The prosthetic cowl works for the same reason the ears, scalloped cape and bat symbol works. Ditto for the eyes

I don't want to beat a dead horse, so this is all I'll say: of course a prosthetic cowl and lenses could work, I'm just arguing neither is the best choice for film.

And this is not the same thing as the doubt that a grey and black / cloth-based suit could work in live action; both an emotive cowl and lenses will directly impact the viewer's experience. It's also adding an unnecessary technical hurdle. It should also be considered that that kind of visual is very specific and not necessarily (or likely) fitting with the aesthetic Reeves is going for.

Umm, white eyes contrasting the moody lighting and atmospheric, shadowy cinematography would look perfectly ominous and fit Noir aesthetic. I'd argue even better than just a plain cowl with his eyes exposed

This is what a Noir aesthetic looks like. Now Batman with white eyes would THRIVE in a visual style like that

Batman does wear armor. But he has tech advanced enough that it looks identical to cloth.

In an universe with poison ivy and mister freeze, I don't think cloth-like armor is that incredulous. Just make it look like cloth and have alfred or Bruce say that it's actually super advanced armor. Done.

I agree that if Reeves is going for a highly stylized, Sin City-like aesthetic, the white eyes would look great. I doubt that's where he's going with it, though. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I think those images would be just as effective if his eyes were completely blacked out, but that's just me.

The scene in BvS where Batman confronts Luthor in prison is perfect just the way it is. White eyes wouldn't improve it.

While I love that shot, I do think white eyes would have made it better.

Man i hope the white eye rumors are true. Just to prove to the doubters that it CAN work. If Spider-Man can have animated eyes, why can't Batman have white ones? I remember people swearing up and down that an animated eye Spider-Man would look dumb. And here we are, with his eyes and mask being championed as the best version yet.

Once we get the white eyes, people will wonder how we ever went without them all this time. Just watch.

For what it's worth, I am not against them. In fact I've advocated for retractable lenses for years. I want a mix of both, because I do think there are benefits to seeing the actor's eyes at times.

I'm totally cool with "detective vision" drop-down lenses. I just don't want them as a permanent fixture.

That's pretty cool. Really like the clean sculpt and larger eyes.

I’d be into this. I’m surprised how much I like the size of those eyes.

I think the larger eyes are a bad idea. They'll most likely still use black makeup, and it'll just be that much more noticeable. Plus, for all the white eyes fans, it would look hilariously bad with it being that large.

If the eye holes were that large, there’s no way the lenses would be retractable. It’d look very silly otherwise.

I don't want them, not because of the lazy strawman that I cannot "imagine" them. I don't want them so I can see the actor's eyes.

Sure, Spider-man has white lenses. He also spends a long time conveniently losing his mask. Gee, I wonder why.

I am fine with a few shots of Batman sliding down lenses to investigate. But that's it.
