The BATSUIT Thread

Woah, Woah. BTAS and BvS have nothing in common when it comes to the character, the suit, or their visual interpretation. BTAS was always character first and was completely about expressiveness, atmosphere, and agility/dynamism in movement. That was the whole point of Timm's simple, stylisized designs. They were the polar opposite of what comic artists of the day were doing with lots of detail and anatomy. Timm and co. recognized that what worked on the comic page did not necessarily work in animation, so they instead applied the old school DIsney technique of lines vs curves to create something unique and stylized. BvS with its heavily padded basketball-textured Batsuit, robo-Batvoice, and perma-scowl cowl, and fanatical devotion to the Frank Miller comic book designs are none of that.
Something stylized also makes the animation significantly cheaper opposed to the weird pseudo realism of many cartoons of the 80s and 90s.
Granted, that came at a cost that now one could argue they are TOO stylized and simplistic (like the recent Justice League cartoon) but still, for its time it was revolutionary

No one can argue that seriously with respect to BTAS (at least before before the TNBA revamp). The original art style is quite simply classic and has stood the test of time. It is not just the voice acting and writing that has stood the test of time, but the animation as well. You need only look at the 90s X-Men, which is hailed as an all-time great superhero series, but has dated horribly in the last three decades. BTAS is like the Fleischer Superman cartoons, there is no touching it and it will endure forever due to brilliant design work.

Oh no, I wasn't talking about the original TAS, I was talking more about the general trend they set, TAS paved the way for more stylized shows and then over the decades they became more and more simplistic in their styles.

the BVS suit is so damn gross to look at. for me personally, anyway. it looks like a bad cosplay with obviously fake muscles.
I saw it on display 18 months ago at an exhibition and it looked great, but it just didn't work in live-action. I thought Affleck looked fantastic in the armoured suit though.

For me, the suit itself just seemed like a cosplay outfit, and thats one of the reasons i didnt like it. Im actually one of the people who much prefers the BB suit and TDK suit over that one. If they're going to adapt the black and grey, I think the pattinson suit is the way to go. the texture has a lot to do with that i think.

No argument there. My favourite Batsuits are the ones from Begins and Returns.

Oh, I totally agree with that. I also find that, just like with art in the comics, digital techniques and colouring has taken a lot of the personality and human out of the artwork. It's a big part of why I find I can't get very excited about a lot of the artwork in comics roughly post-2000. Traditional, inking, watercolours, and other hand colouring techniques add so much nuance.

I think the problem with Affleck's suit was how bulky it was. I get that they wanted to emulate Frank's Batman but it just made Batman look like a Build-a-bear. It looked really goofy at times. I still appreciated it for moving us away from black rubber and to a much more comic accurate look it's my favorite Batsuit for that reason. But I can recognize it's flaws

If the collar looks like that from the front, I think I can get used to it, especially if the ears are longer. In that case, it might end up being my favourite live action Batsuit as long as the majority of the rest of the suit is cleaner and simple like the chest piece instead of the shoulder pauldrons. The shoulder-style detailing should should be left for the gauntlets and boots.

Bingo. It didn’t help it was recognizable *****e lord Ben Affleck in a giant padded He-man muscle Bat suit.

I wish the chest pieces were less pointy, and I could do without the ridges on the shoulders, but otherwise I can't stop watching that clip. It's basically a better execution of what Nolan was trying to do.
Yea.

I wouldn’t bang Alecia Keys either ... elbows are WAYYY too pointy

:pal:

This is the type of dorky nitpicking content I adore SHH for since I started coming here all those years ago LOL
