The BATSUIT Thread

Easily? I mean I don't dispute that it's a great suit.

But not so great as to be easily the best.

I mean, obviously that's down to subjective taste!

But to me? Yeah, it's easily my favorite Batsuit. To me, it strikes just the right balance of influence from other iterations of the costume in other media and original interpretation.

I had doubts about the Batsuit when we first saw set pics and such, but I think it looks fine in live-action.

The more crude, cobbled-together vibe is obviously intentional.

Okay well fair enough. I was just wanting clarification.

You're probably thinking of one of the concept arts for the Batsuit in Darren Aronofsky's Batman: Year One. It was one of my personal favorites.

I've been telling you this for awhile now!

Thanks for sharing, this is pretty cool. I like the top right and center designs. Unsurprisingly, the simpler the design the better it looks. I quite like the cape hanging over the shoulders, I wish the Pattinson suit had a better cape draping.

The cape and cowl are what really make something "Batman". If you get those right, the actual suit could be anything and it'd be fine. I'm happy with the cowl, its great.

One thing I do prefer about Bale's cowl is the smaller eye openings. Despite the issues (bobblehead, beak nose, tiny mouth opening), the cowl was perfect around the eyes. I loved that, at times, you could only see a speck of light surrounded by darkness.

With the new cowl, the large eye openings make Pattinson look a tiny bit derpy imo.

The eye openings aren't that dissimilar in size. Its the lighting that's giving you that affect there.

Right, but no matter the lighting, we never really saw as much of Bale's eyeballs compared to what we've seen of Pattinson so far. The TDK/R suit always gave the eyes a distant and intense look. Maybe its more to do with the expression of the cowl than the size of the openings?

I'm super torn because the mobility Rob/Stuntmen clearly have is fantastic and the suit is so up my alley, it captures the Lee Bermejo-esque street level vigilante aesthetic perfectly while also having a distinct Gothic flavour with the Dracula collar. Plus it doesn't give Rob the hilarious squished face which actively messed with Bale and Affleck's perfromances.

On the other hand, even though he can hardly move in the thing and I'm not a big fan of the movies aesthetic overall the Batman Returns suit is the most beautiful goddamn thing I've ever seen. It's just so impossibly cool.

the returns suit looked the best in shadow and has the best silhouette.
probably still the most "cinematic" looking of the batsuits:

keaton brought so much presence, despite him not being a very physically huge guy.
combo of suit + lighting + his acting.

Yeah, Keaton's Batman Returns suit is my second favorite after Pattinson's. That design is just flat-out classy.

It used to be the Begins Batsuit, but some of the materials haven't aged quite as nicely for me as I'd have liked.

It's amazing that a relatively normal sized man like Keaton is a thousand times more intimidating as Batman than a giant like Affleck and more consistently so than Bale even at his most jacked.

this is something burton and keaton got really right.

with affleck, u'd be afraid he would beat the eff out of you and leave you in a body cast.

with bale, u'd be afraid he'll hang you upside down off a high building while threatening you.

but with keaton, u'll be in fear of him creeping up out of nowhere while quietly throwing you off a roof.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I don't find Keaton's Batman uber-intimidating. He just looks too goofy with his awful Batsuit/cowl and the way he's not convincing as a fighter.

Keaton is more intimidating in the car "Dad Talk" in Spider-Man: Homecoming than his Batman ever was.

IMO.

He’s so goddamn good in Homecoming. I have a ton of criticisms of MCU Spidey but the third act of that movie is pure, classic Spider-Man. The dad talk scene is the highlight.

that was the best scene in spider-man homecoming to me.
good sense of tension.
and in an odd way, i was sort of rooting for keaton's vulture.
he's a bad guy, but he was someone who started out trying to make a decent living and got screwed over by the rich and powerful.
from a certain point of view, he did what he had to provide for his family and the people working under him.
very relatable.

Yea, you can sort of get why he's doing what he's doing, especially the way he gets legit screwed over at the beginning. He's not a typical comic book villain, he's not after world domination or anything, and he wants to avoid superheroes, not fight them. He doesn't even have a vendetta or anything against Spider-Man, he just wants him out of his hair and gives him a chance to walk away. He's not actively out to get him like Green Goblin or Venom.

I also liked how they made him a scrap hauler collecting debris from the Avengers Manhattan battle, I thought it was a nice organic world-building touch.

Could be touched up in post maybe. Or clever work.

I have a feeling Rob is gonna be the most intimidating Batman. We’ve already seen the tantalizing glimpse in the trailer.

Bale in Begins was beastly and intimidating, but much less so in TDK and TDKR.

I would take Begins Bale in a fight over any of the other live-action Batmen.

I love everything about that scene so much, the lighting, cinematography, tone...

Easily one of the best Batman moments on film. Fight wise, it would be really interesting to see Begins Bale vs. Warehouse Batfleck.
