The Battlestar Galactica and Caprica Discussion Thread

That would make for a pretty interesting series for real. But what would 150,000 years of evolution do to the cylons?? Something to really think about. Maybe the Cylons evolved to a certain point and the series could center around the cylons returning to Earth after theyve detected we are on the same path as the first Earth and Caprica. So they return to prevent us from going down that same path and to truly break the cycle once and for all. That could be something really cool to see a couple years down the road

I think I'd rather see a Cylon War series...

Oh yea me too. But that is a veerrry interesting idea. You not think so?

yeah, like a more interesting version of BSG1980... in a way. I could see a show working kind of like stargate... we humans build robots/cylons, then discover galactica, still in orbit around the sun. Only difference, is this time around, our cylons are our friends.

that being said, I too would much rather see a third series after Caprica based solely on the first cylon war... and see Galactica at her prime.

I wonder if we will see in oncome of the temprorary dark age, where the colonies revert their technology to more simplistic forms in Caprica?

Really!?!?! I never knew that. To be honest Ive only really rewatched seasons 3 n 4 cuz I really like them the best. But yea a Cylon Wars show would be great. Who could be cast as a young viper pilot Bill though?? And what would be a good name for the series??

Use the guy they already cast as 20ish Viper Pilot Bill Adama. It was in Razor

IDK, I think a Cylon War show would just be an action type of show. Which is fine if you watched BSG for the dogfights, but I watched it for the dramatic elements. And dramatically, the interesting themes to explore in wartime were already done...in BSG. I think a show about the events that led up to that war is much more interesting (and less redundant) in terms of themes and ideas. So I'm personally glad that Moore chose this particular period for the prequel rather than the actual war.

And I really liked the Caprica pilot, but the preview for future episodes is really what's got me excited about the series. Looks great.

Did we ever get an explanation as to why Caprica reverted back to such simple technology? Was it because of the cylon war?

The only thing I'd be afraid of in a Cylon Wars series would it being redundant, although I think if anyone could avoid that, it would be Moore and his writing staff. I think they could easily avoid making it a non-stop dogfight.

Looks like its going to be insane.

Yep, they basically said as much in the BSG mini-series.

True, but I don't think there's any way they could avoid the redundancy, since it's basically the same situation as BSG only with the humans standing a fighting chance and battling much less interesting Cylons. The themes one would naturally explore in a wartime series like that are the exact same ones they explored in BSG. Only less of them, since the circumstances were less dire for the humans.

But this we most certainly agree on. :yay:

If they ever did a series (or well a mini series would work) set during Adamas first Cylon war, a big difference is that we would also be seeing how big of an impact it is having on the surface aswell as in space. Which would help switch it up.

And if they ever did do a series set in our present future, they could explore the belief of reincarnation which would be a way of subtly addressing BSG Cylons rebirthing chambers or whatever it was called.

Hmmm..Just watched the first actual episode of Caprica and it wasn't bad. NOt amazing but not bad. The only negative thing for me is the constant switching back and forth between Zoe and the Cylon. Hopefully, they'll have her in an skinjob body or SOMETHING in the next few episodes. I've always thought that trick was lame. Show shows promise though and I love McCreary's score.

I doubt they'll give her a skinjob body, but yeah, I really hope they tone down the constant shifts back and forth between Zoe and the Cylon. I think they're probably doing it just to show the audience that it's Zoe inside but everyone sees her as a huge machine. Hopefully they feel that they've driven the point home enough and mainly show her as Zoe from now on.

Anyway, great episode tonight. I look forward to seeing how the Graystones deal with Amanda's announcement and if they ever learn the truth.

SO i cant wait to watch Caprica but I got my Mom and Brother started on BSG and they only have 5 episode left and LOVE it. They started monday.

I like the switching myself. It allows a computer animated character to interact better with the rest of the cast. And I really like the difference between zoe's inocent look, and the cylon body.

I'm sure once there are more cylons, we'll be seeing a lot more of zoe, rather than cylon zoe, when other robots are manufactured (as alluded to in the opening sequence)

so far I like the show. I like where all the different threads are going. And the episode finale was great, with Zoe's mom going to the podium at the memorial. That was a great scene. The stuff with billy was a little random I thought, and could have used a little more time (episodes) to build up to the 'walk around' with his uncle. Polly Walker is super interesting, because she is totally creepy, I just have no idea what she's up to.

I'm not super excited to see what's up next week, but I'm certainly going to watch. So far, I like this new show. It's certainly in a different vein from BSG, same universe, but a different feel and approach. I like it so far.

as for the earlier discussion on a third series that lies between Caprica and BSG, it'd be good. It wouldn't be an action show... It'll have the same pacing as BSG and I'm assuming Caprica... there will be some action, given that Graystone is trying to build 100000 robots, to fight someone

100,000 robots to fight who? I know that there is a lot of racism throughout Caprica, but are these 12 worlds fighting each other or are they more like states all under one government?

Other thoughts I had on the new Caprica episode:

-I too find Polly Walker's character VERY interesting. When we got to see her home and kind of polygamistic lifestyle, I was even MORE interested.

-Sawyer and Superfreak, do you guys think Zoe will be trapped in the Cylon body for the entire series? I hope not. I think the switching stuff will stop but I just can't see her stuck in the Cylon body for the entire run.

-I didn't think so before but does anyone think it's possible that Adama's daughter or even his wife could return in some form?

-Superfreak, I think that "inbetween" series you speak of will happen around season 3 or 4 of CAprica. Specifically it will BE season 3 or 4 of Caprica. I think it will happen because the creators will want to jump forward a few years and get some war stuff going or I think they'll respond to fan criticisms of the show not being "actiony" enough. I hope they find an compromising way of working this out though. I like the show how it is but I'd be lying if I didn't wish there were well, an occasional fist fight or something.

Perhaps, but it's a lot of years to jump forward. If that was the plan, I would have made young Bill Adama more of a teenager, than a child, in order to make the forward narrative/time jump as minimal as possible. I think it would be safer to do a third series, once Caprica is expended

I don't think Zoe will get out of her body, I think that was the point of Graystone's issue with the Zoe Cylon... and creating more

Yeah, Polly Walker's character rules... I just wish I could see better what her character is up to. She's the real mystery on the show IMO. From the opium den, to the poligimist family, school teacher, sister/nun of some sort, and terrorist? Very cool.

The Tauron crime syndicate stuff I'm not as interested in yet. I think my only problem with the show is that I consider Joseph Adama to be the lead character... but he is yet to do anything of significance on the show... other than trying to keep what's left of his family together.

Im just wandering exactly how Daniel plans on fixing the problem with all the other MCPs. If the one only works because Zoe is in it does that mean that all centurions have some kinda personality downloaded into them or what. Just something Ive been wandering since this past episode. This show is amazing though Im loving every second of it and cant wait to see where they take all of this

seems like zoe knows, but is keeping it, and herself secret. Will she allie with her father at some point?

I love Caprica, even more than BSG. The opening sequence just amazes me to the point to where I must watch the show. I like the idea of Zoe being in the Cylon, that definitely brings something new.
