The Best and Worst of Marvel Thread

Best of Marvel (from what I have read):
Whedon's Astonishing X-men run
Young Avengers (Is it still ongoing? I have no idea, I hope it returns.)

Worst:
Ultimatum: Dear god in heaven, it is SOOO bad. It's like the death of his son drove Jeph Loeb insane and he had to take out all his rage and pain on something, and he took it out on the Ultimate Universe. I read it because I knew it was so bad. It's like watching a car accident or a trainwreck happening, you just can't turn away.
It turned me off from ever reading another Ultimate comic (except for the ones before it) again, because he messed up that universe so damn much.

Okay, so now that this topic's gotten a bit stale let's change it up a bit.

What B or C list character do you feel has a fantastic 1st Appearance ?

Let's show some "other guy" love.

For me, I instantly think of Darkhawk. I think Darkhawk's entire run was great (and the reimagining of the source of his powers has been great too) but when we were introduced to him in Darkhawk #1 I thought it was fantastic. He was a likable kid from a family that he loved, then upon finding out his father is corrupt he stumbles upon an amulet and is indued with the power of the Darkhawk. It wasn't entirely original or mind blowing but it was very well told and the art fit the story wonderfully. His look was fairly unique and attractive and the story involving his father completely pulled me in and kept me interested in where the story goes.

I actually first read Darkhawk in Amazing Spider-Man 353, the first part of the Round Robin: Sidekick's Revenge, and I was very intrigued. I later picked up the first 12 or so issues of his ongoing and they blew me away but I felt that first issue was something special. It may be nostalgia speaking, but I loved it and still do.

I'm sure I'll think of some other characters I'd like to mention but so far, Darkhawk #1 is a solid 1st Appearance for me

Young Avengers (Is it still ongoing? I have no idea, I hope it returns.)

Young Avengers only ran for 12 issues (and a oneshot special that took place in the middle) before it ended. It then went on to have two minis tieing into events alongside the Runaways, both of which were good. The characters showed up here and there after that for a while (most notably Stature and Vision being in the Mighty Avengers for a while) until just recenty in the newest mini that could have easily been Young Avengers 13 on called Avengers: Children's Crusade. It's by the same writer and artist as the Young Avengers ongoing. I suggest picking it up if you liked the early stuff. It's been pretty good.

Oh I know. I have everything the Young Avengers have ever been in. I just wasn't sure if there were plans by Heinberg to continue writing the series or start a new one.

What's gonna come first? December 2012 or the end of Children's Crusade?:o

I hope the post-Children's Crusade plans include something along the lines of: "F***ing fire Heinberg."

I'd like Marvel to fire every single writer or artist who can't hit a deadline to save their lives. That's just my opinion though.

But yeah, how about those first appearances?!
