The Big DC SDCC Thread 2008

Depends on whether you like Barry Allen and want to see him as the main Flash from now on.

I think it will be different than GL:Rebirth in that Wally will not be regulated to bantha fodder. He will degraded as far as the numero uno in the Flash Universe, but I don't quite think he will be #2 either. I think he will be on and even keel with Barry and maybe have his own book or he will keep the Flash title and Barry will get the inevitable new book. Johns has a bit more respect for Wally than he does Kyle and I know what your thinking Corp because we share similarities when it comes to our prefered Green Lantern and Flash.

Hopefully it just won't lack in quality, Johns has now got what 3 big stories on his plate? Rage of the Red Lanterns, IN BLACKEST NIGHT and now Flash:Rebirth. That mother ****er must not sleep.

I suppose I'm more apprehensive about Flash: Rebirth because I'm one of the few who actually doesn't like what Johns is doing with the GL line at the moment. I think the whole emo spectrum is an unnecessary, stupid convolution of a simple concept.

I think its an interesting concept that if it works could be really cool. I also recognize that it has a huge potential for Failure. Maybe John's can make something work but its just alot of characters to juggle and its going to be hard for writers to follow up and it will eventually be a continuity nightmare.

Oh, I'm sure Johns can pull it off in a satisfying way for those who are into it. I'm just not interested. I think it's a stupid concept right from the start, especially how Johns has chosen to present it, with each color tying into an emotion--except that a few of them aren't really emotions.

Rage of the Red Lanterns is just a one shot for Final Crisis and an arc for Green Lantern. It really isn't on par with The Blackest Night which appears to be DC's next event and Flash: Rebirth which is reinvigorating the Flash title(s).

However, the man is indeed busy. Three ongoings plus various minis and one shots and running two events/crossovers along with screenwriting.

Listen, as much as i dont want barry allen back, and as much as i love wally, i actually dropped the title when waid took over. that **** with his kids is unreadable. it needs a revamp. Either way johns feels that he cant do anything with wally that he hasn't done before. I havn't been dissapointed by him yet.

You managed to contradict yourself four times in three sentences. "Wally will not be relegated to bantha fodder" is a direct contradiction of "He will be degraded as far as the numero uno in the Flash Universe," which is a contradiction of "I don't quite think he will be #2 either," and they're kind of all contradictions of "He will be on an even keel with Barry."

and maybe have his own book or he will keep the Flash title and Barry will get the inevitable new book.
Yes, that is a very good example of what will not happen.

Issues 11 and 12 of All Star Batman & Robin have been cancelled because Frank Miller and Jim Lee are far too busy for the time being.
And they are also *******s. You don't ****ing start a project you can't finish. If you start it, you ****ing finish it, out of respect for the people who threw down money for the first portions of the story.

Dan Jurgens taking over as Booster Gold's writer after Remender, who's apparently only on for a two-issue fill-in.
SEE? I told you Booster Gold was in good hands and that the influence of the original creative designs would be respected.

I think the whole emo spectrum is an unnecessary, stupid convolution of a simple concept.
Convolution? How? It's just an expansion.

What I was trying to say was that Wally wont be number 2 but he wont be number one either, just on an even keel with Barry. I type like im talking. I wont say "wow what an ass" either cause I know its just you being you.

Convolution? How? It's just an expansion.
Willpower magically becoming an emotion and being the center of a heretofore completely unacknowledged spectrum of emotional energy that the Guardians knew about and never did anything with is not a convolution? Parallax as a fear demon who's just been hanging out in the GLs' power source for forever was just an expansion? The GLs had a very simple, clear underlying concept that worked swimmingly. I think the emotional spectrum is just unnecessary complication. It's not that interesting because it's not something that grows organically from the basic GL concept; Johns has to force a lot of the elements into place. At least, that's how it comes off to me.

I'm just saying, if Wally's not number one, he's nothing. That's just how these things work.

I know but I think Johns has to much emotion and love for the character to just butt **** him like that.

You explained Johns' alteration to the GL mythos in one sentence. Either you are an excellent explicator or it's really not that convoluted.

The GLs had a very simple, clear underlying concept that worked swimmingly.
I think they still do. Green Lanterns are still guys with power rings that generate green energy, and who fight interstellar crime.

I realize we'll just disagree on this, but this seems really natural to me, to expand the power ring idea to other colors and power sources. Maybe he ****ed up by calling it the emotional spectrum, but to me that's really pretty semantic and unimportant. I will say that I hope for a future time when these other corps disappear again, just because I like the idea of the GLs being the king-****s of ****-mountain, but storywise, I don't think it's unnatural or forced at all.

Doesn't matter. In a franchise, a character is either number one or number ****ed-in-the-ass.

That's basically what it comes down to. I don't see it that way, and I'm not interested in reading about the spectrum. There's nothing technically wrong with it, other than the obvious fact that a few of the "emotions" aren't emotions, but it's just not something that grabs me. Sort of like how Daredevil's been a critical darling for about a decade now, yet I've never been able to stick with it for more than a few issues before losing interest.

I started getting into the Flash right when Wally took over after COIE....but I am aware of Barry Allen and his legacy....I am excited for Rebirth
