There's no way in takes in over $200m more domestic than TDK.

IF (and that's a huge if) it beats TDK, it will be by a much narrower margin.

For it:
-Has JGL.... ladies love JGL (moreso that TDK's equivalent: Aaron Eckhart

While it never hurts to have JGL and I do agree that he has a bigger fanbase than Eckhart, I highly doubt that his addition will add in significant figures to reach 2B. And it's not like he's leading the movie or his role is the equivalent of Eckhart's role in terms of size.

Ladies love(d) Aaron Eckhart? Huh...? I know he's got the chin, but I don't remember him being a draw for the wiminz.

"the chin"? It's more like... DAT CHIN.

I like him and find him attractive but I won't see movie sorely because of his chin him.

I've never seen a movie just because I thought the actor was hot, and never understood those who do.

I don't either. I would see a movie though just because of an actor but for other reasons - the actor is great or has a good reputation of picking good movies.

Neither have I.

(I happen to think both Tom Hardy and Joe-GL are pretty fine looking, but they are not my reasons for seeing this baby. ;))

And TDK made TRIPLE of what Begins made. Trust me I heard all the ''you're crazy'', ''there's no way'', and ''gaurantee you that it won't happen'' responses back then too. Yet my prediction wasn't as crazy as they thought it was.

Keep in mind however that I my prediction for TDKR was based a Best case scenerio, and then listed what that meant. Also $2 billion worldwide isn't impossible. Avatar made $2 billion overseas ALONE. I'm not saying TDKR will be Avatar I'm just saying it's not impossible.

I've said my peace. $100+ million Opening day, $210+ million opening weekend, $750-ish million US total, $1.4-ish billion international, and $2.15 billion worldwide total. I may be off, but don't be surprised if my ''crazy'' prediction isn't off by much... again.

Well this time it is pure crazy talk.

Thank you miggizle85 for educating my toddler cousin as to the definition of delusion.

Well the budget TDKRises is allegedly around 185-200 million. My guess is that the Avengers budget is around 230-250 million...not including marketing?

Rises budget is $250 million. A large chunk of that I'm guessing is going to the locations hooting and IMAX.

I thought I'd pose this question after having a discussion in the Avengers forum. How many genuinely give a damn if Rises matches or even comes close to TDK box office numbers? I look back and think not once did I ever think a Batman film could make the kind of money that TDK did, I always thought of it a simply a bonus to what was already a great film. In turn I'm really not fussed about how much money Rises makes, I know it's guaranteed a crap load of cash but I'm more concerned with whether the final product matches it's predecessor in terms of story and quality. Anyone else feel the same?

I only give a damn in so much that it keeps the property alive and attracts attention that talent keeps gravitating toward it. Past that however, no I never gave it that much thought.

Even with TDK doing the numbers it did, the best term I could say captured my feelings were "wow, this is a blessing". I was barely a child when B89 came out, and I remember looking through archived footage/articles concerning "Batmania" and feeling...envious. Envious I wasn't part of arguably the biggest peak in the character's history. So for TDK to catch lightning in a bottle again, fittingly featuring the cinematic encore of the Batman/Joker clash, it just brought a huge smile to my face.

Bragging rights (which is all these numbers really amount to) are ultimately meaningless and short-term. The experience and memories of enjoyment and fulfillment in coming out of these movies -- that's permanent.

This pretty much sums up how I feel about TDKR raking in another billion and 94% rating. At the end of the day, all I care about is Nolan raising/dropping the curtain for the final time in this franchise.

This is my thought process about it, too. I care about what I take out of the movie. My experience and connection with it. If people share my thoughts come release, that's all well and good. But if they don't? Hey, that's their right and opinion. But it and the box office won't influence me. I'm not going to be, "oh, this flick didn't beat the highest gross record, let's give it a miss!"

Are we really having a discussion about how much money TDKR will make or not? I think that's just silly... Reminds me of the music days when people where comparing album sales and pointing out who went platinum and who didn't.

I know its great news if it does those multimillion-billion dollar numbers but I personally don't care about what this movie generates financially, I'm not getting a cut so big woop. LOL

For what its worth, the other movies coming out could make more money but I'm willing to bet that TDKR would still be the better movie in the long run.

I thought the Avengers budget was surprisingly low for the kind of movie it is. Maybe someone can help with the real figures.

The Avengers budget is estimated to be around 300 million.

That's really an absurd amount for any film. It wasn't even filmed in 3D so part of me wonders if part of that is marketing costs.

Other sources say 260 million. I don't know.

Wikipedia says 220 million, but I think Hiddleston said the budget limit was 300 million.
