53. Rove’s security clearance (kept after his part in outing Valerie Plame) - Plame wasn't secret.
54. Anti-immigration raids (children and parents separated) - Good. They should have stayed out of the country. 55. Dubai Ports deal (a Middle East company in charge of US ports in the age of terrorism) - Is there any proof Dubai Ports Inc was untrustworthy in the least? 56. Patriot Act and its Extension - Patriot Act was a great piece of legislation.
57. Privatization of Social Security (a bad idea endlessly recycled) - This would be the best thing to ever happen to SS. 58. War on Science - Really? He fought science? You probably mean he didn't throw more money at junk sciences you approve of right? 59. David Safavian (Abramoff associate)

68. Sago mining disaster (non-enforcement of safety regs) - When did the Pres become a mining safety officer? 69. Harriet Miers Supreme Court nomination (a supreme act of cronyism) - She would have been a great judge. 70. Vetoing stem cell research - No...you mean embryonic research. :doom: :doom: :doom:

Hmmm

OK I found it. WTF:huh: That has to be a joke, And a bad one at that. :whatever:

I dislike Bush as much as the next guy but there is no need for this kind of crap to try to make Bush look bad, Not when there is so much other stuff that Bush really did that makes him look bad.

That's not an excuse.

While many things you've said are true that doesn't give president's the right to break laws or act badly no matter how stupid they are. No-one should be about the law.

History will judge everyone any way. That's not punishment. If it was every criminal whoever got caught would be walking the streets after their crimes were revealed to the public. That's not how justice works. Bush has done much worse to the country then an ordinary thug.

Where does personal responsibility come into this? Isn't that a Republican talking point? How does walking away untouched make him accountable?

That's denial, not turning the page.

The reason people won't forget about Bush is because our complaints are legitimate. It's not just Democrats in America, either. It's world wide.

The new guy being in office won't change the past. Obama being president doesn't erase what "mistakes" Bush did. The torture, the dead, the destroyed countries, privacy being a thing of the past in America for every citizen, America hiring mercenaries, the economy imploding all still happened. If he does not go after Bush his presidency will be short lived, too. That would be enabling behavior. Something which has stank up American politics for far to long.
I think I'm going to like this guy.:yay:

Perhaps Obama doesn't want to go after Bush because unlike morons like Pelosi and the Daily Kos nuts, he knows GWB did nothing wrong and isn't a criminal.

Look I'm really getting tired of people saying "Oh they should've respect Bush at the innauguration he was our President". How can you "respect" a man that:

A) Failed to prevent A massive terrorist attack from happening. And don't you use the argument "Oh well that was Clinton's fault really" because Bush was in office for nearly 9 months by the time that happen! And now we know that he was briefed several times about the potential for Al Qaida to attack us (Bin Laden determined to Attack America memo August, 2001) and completely ignored it.

B) Invaded a country for....no concrete reason. We went into Iraq because 1) WMD's? oh no there never was any of those there and it was a dissapointment for him he later stated. 2) Involvement with 9/11? Nope the intelligence he used to make that connection was proved to be false and Hussein had no connection with Al Qaida. 3) They had the technology to create nuclear weapons? Oh must we delve into this. Not only was this proven to be false and was a reason for Powell leaving, but now we here that some members of the administration KNEW the uranium claims were false but still went on with it. So basically we went to War with a country for no reason. Yes we got rid of a dictator but Hussein was far from the only dictator in this world and posed no threat to us.

c) Basically ignored thousands of pleas for help after a Hurricane destroyed a major U.S. city. Brownie you're doing a heck of a job! Just ingore the thousands of people who died in New Orleans that could've been saved had we actually cared. New Orleans is still a mess. Seems like he really went out his way being a President for the people when he flew over the disater and got his picture taking.

D) And now were are in the biggest financial disaster in this nation's history. A Global recession. And Bush's corporate partners get away free while the administration failed to act quickly to prevent this mess. There were warnings for years that something was going to happen with the economy and what did our president do? Once again, ingored it. And what did he personally due back in September and October when we went into crisis mood? Gave a few speeches and said not to blame anybody right now. Of course he wasn't completely responsible for this but as the man who has the highest position in government, you'd think he would care enough to help prevent this from happening.

And let's not forget the countless other moments that he's been involved in. The PATRIOT Act, Plame, Torture, Guantanamo, Ignoring enviromental acts, our broken image in the international community, ect. ect. ect.

So I'm having a really hard time giving respect to man that made a joke out of the most sacred position in the United States of America. He didn't do anything to serve the people, he simply sat there and braught this country to its knees and now he get's to go back to Texas and watch his Presidential Library, honoring his "legacy", be built. If we can't press charges against this man, at least give us the freedom to make him hear how much of a negative affect he has had on all of us.

So long Bush! Thanks for respecting the position you were giving and looking out for our best interest.
Ever heard of the Great Depression? That was a Global event also, that lead rise to the Nazi's. Can we go out and say that since FDR's policies like the NEW DEAL didn't work that it's FDR's fault that 12 Million people died at the hands of the Nazi's.

And Katrina, I know this is beating a dead horse, but the Federal Government CANT invade a state. They need the States Permission to move the Military in to give aid, and the Democratic Governor and Demcoratic Mayor refused help for 3 days, which caused those people to die. The Federal Government is blameless if the State denied their help. And, did you really type out "Brownie"? Are you calling the Bush Administration Racist? Or, is that your own spin on things?

Sigh...

What do you charge Bush with Major? Treason? Treason is the betrayl of one's country to a foreign entity. Bush did not do that, and if so it cannot be proven.

Torture? The only "torture," the administration admits to is waterboarding and other forms of psychological torment at the time these were not defined as torture. He cannot be charged as he would be grandfathered. There is no evidence of more extreme forms of torture and if it took place who will testify? Those who committed it and will put their heads on the block by admitting it or those whom it was committed against, many who have proven links to terror organizations. Not exactly credible witnesses.

Perjury? Bush was never under oath so even if he knowingly lied about WMDs he was not under oath.

The illegal invasion of Iraq? The Iraqi government would have to press that charge in the World Court and I really doubt they will.

The fact is, for the past 8 years people much smarter than us have joined their teams of lawyers in looking for a way to impeach him for something illegal and there is nothing there. Even if he committed crimes there is no way to prove it beyond all reasonable doubt. So why waste all the tax dollars to try him when he will just walk?

Christ, Sube, have you forgotten "heck of a job Brownie"?

I would have thought you had some great memory. You seem to remember everything else

I normally do not criticize a mod, but sorry - for The Major to make the above comment is one thing, but for a Moderator to "Amen" such a juvenile and naive comment as the one above would be amusing if it wasn't so frustrating.

"Juvenile" and "naive." How so?

An affair is a sleazy thing to do, but its nothing compared to how Bush has treated the presidency.
If Demogoblin wants to make The Major-type posts, great! Do it! Just get rid of the Red Font.

Tell me how my opinion effects my ability as a moderator. Several posters have said I'm one of thier favorites because of my laid back attitude. Not permissive mind you, just less infraction happy.

I don't recall ever seeing that. Sounds Racist!:cmad:

Edit: Or Delicous. I love brownies.

Depending on whether or not Iraq becomes a stable democracy, Katrina will probably be remembered as Bush's biggest **** up...but strangely enough, it is one of the few things that is not his fault.

Well, like I said before, we are still in Germany, and Japan. And they are 2 of the biggest economies in the world, where both of them are well known for their Technolgical Genius. Would that have ever happened if we didn't go in there and destroy their Dictatorial Regimes in the 40's?

Time will tell on what will happen in Iraq. I'm sure there wasnt a lot of certainty as to the fates of Germany and Japan after the war.

I am willing to make a bet.

Obama will NOT go after Bush and try to get charges pressed.
Any takers?

He wont do it. No President as ever done it (that I can remember). They blame previous administrations and even ridicule them, but wont try to hold them accountable in court. It wont happen.

Obama may try to put something in law that allows it to more easilly happen...but right now, to do that, would be catastrophic for the country. To bring him up on charges, SO MUCH secret info would have to go public. I just don't think it will ever happen.

Here's the quote from Bush back in 2005:

"Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job." --to FEMA director Michael Brown, who resigned 10 days later amid criticism over his handling of the Hurricane Katrina debacle, Mobile, Ala., Sept. 2, 2005

Yeah, I'm fairly positive that it was not a serious article.

Who is the author? There was a satirist that writes articles on Huffington Post. He posted one a few months back about something equally ridiculous and had me fooled for a couple minutes until I realized he basically wrote the Huffington Post equivalent of Onion articles.

Edit- nevermind. Found the article. Different author. I guess the transition from marginal credibility to zero credibility is finally complete for the Huffington Post.

As much as I would like Obama to go after Bush, I don't think it will happen either. Obama's got a full plate on his to-do list, and it will only distract him from his agendas and the country won't want that to happen; they'd rather have Obama tackle economy, wars, and even health care first.

I completely agree.
And then you get to a certain aspect of how and what can you hold them accountable to....that is such a grey area.

Do you mean Uncertainy? I don't see how anyone could be certain that Germany and Japan wouldn't have ended up as failures in the 40s and 50s.

But, look how it turned out, if we continue to stablize Iraq, it could spread freedom to other parts of the Middle East. Just like how most of Europe Stablized after WW2, and how South Korea Stablized after the Korean Conflict.

Adding Freedom and Liberty to any country can't end up badly.

I completely agree.

not to mention, it seems like Bush did everything he could to make this transition smooth...so it could be seen as a nasty maneuver on Obama's part. i'd love to see Bush under investigation, but for the reasons you and Raiden described, i don't see it happening either.
