I'm glad that W went to Fort Hood. That was the right thing to do.But one good day doesnt make up for 8 years of facepalm after facepalm, I'm sorry.

No, it definitely does not. But if this is the beginning of a trend and turns into a post-presidency on par, if not better than Jimmy Carter's (which IMO is the standard for all post-presidencies), then he might make up a little.

All we can do is wait and see about that. George has big shoes to fill if he wants to be the next Jimmy Carter (in terms of post-Presidential legacy, anyway).

Indeed. But to do the Fort Hood visit so covertl, without a media presence...its something so selfless that so few self-serving politicians would do. It may not be everything, but its a damn good start and I may still dislike President Bush, but right now I am impressed as hell by Bush the man.

Bush the President was certainly inept, but I always saw Bush the Man as a good hearted, but misguided, person.

Yeah...but you gotta wonder if he'll ever be able to break out of the immense shadow of his presidency.

You can certainly argue that Carter would have been able to completely escape from his if not for his ability to put his foot in his mouth. And Carter did far worse for the country.

Carter was only President for one term though. That's why I think he was able to escape the shadow of his piss poor Presidency. Plus it's been like a million years since he was President, people move on.

And eventually it will be a million years since Bush's Presidency.

Limbless Vet's and Foreign Civilians have a long memory. And Dubbya is no Jimmy Carter, there is no foundation for clearing Brush for the poor.

But he was President for twice as long as Carter and was more impactful as well. It's going to be longer and harder to look past Bush's Presidency than we did with Carter's.

In the end, Bush will not live down his presidency. After all, Carter did not start two wars and then completely **** up both of them. But, he is capable of doing good that could earn him some forgiveness.

Carter didn't get 4,000+ soldiers killed in an unjust and unneeded war. **** GW.

I never saw Bush as a "bad" person per say, i just thought he never knew what the hell he was doing. I felt like he was in way over his head about leading the country and making decisions and thus we're in the mess we are now. But he's not a bad guy, from what i've seen he seems pretty down to earth and cool.

The same can be said for Obama. Definitely over his head.

Bush warns of threats to freedom, economic growth

Bush warning about economic growth. That's cute and touching, but in a sad willfully-oblivious sort of way.

I would agree Carter was a bad president, but I can safely say Bush is our worst president since probably Coolidge or Harding. I mean he's got AIDS relief for Africa, but everything else he did that may have been good for the nation or country he failed to accomplish and everything he wanted that was harmful he succeeded at with a smirk. Looking at our economy, our national defense, our wars, our regulatory systems, our deficit (which Obama has only contributed to) and our global reputation/relations with our allies....

Wow.

And now he wants to give his advice. I think this country has had enough "help" from this president for now.

GW is of average intelligence at best. Obama is a very intelligent guy. He at least has a good mind going for him. GW had nothing.
