I definitely preferred the UC and enjoyed the film much more overall. Should not have cut this down.

Anyone else think the Communion scene completely ruins the mood?
I didn't feel that way. But I didn't feel the e-mail and the future vision did any harm to pace or narrative of the film either. Communion would hurt the film, if it was the sole scene between death of Superman and funeral sequence. But there's a nice fade to black in pieta shot, that kinda wraps it. Then we take a break from it and see a sequence of post-Doomsday events, that slowly reach the funeral. So I thought it was fine.

I do. I feel like, in light of everything that had just happened before the communion scene (Doomsday Battle and Superman's death), it just made things feel a bit bloated.

This scene is the only new one in the Ultimate Edition I don't like. The only one...

It's funny, I've watched a few reviews for the uc on YouTube and all of them have mentioned scenes or moments that improve the movie that were already in the tc.

Ive always said this. The movie has gotten far more criticism than it deserved.I'm not saying it didnt deserve any,but the amount of backlash/hate it got was completely astounding and frankly unfair.

Damn, watching that Doomsday battle again was an absolute blast... Goosebumps.

Especially when critical darlings of recent like Force Awakens have myriad problems themselves. Hype for BvS was massive, and when it didn't live up to expectations, criticisms snowballed into bashing for fun's sake.

Probably should have called Green Lantern movie a prequel then.

Basically make some s*** movies then a cheap crowd pleaser and RT scores are going to be great and your movie will get rave reviews.

I think many people went to watch this movie with an expectation of what it SHOULD be,rather than juding the film on its own merit, and when that didnt pan out, they criticized it,which is unfair.

Good to see the Ultimate Cut is getting far more favourable reviews.

Lett's say UC didn't improve anything. OK, maybe those big fight scenes are a little, little bit better and Bats' introduction has some new fine shots but adding another 3-4 minor characters... Totally pointless. So still 5/10.

So from what I've gathered...

If you liked the TC you'll like the UC more
If you didn't like the TC, you'll still like the UC more with some people, Jon Schnepp saying that it's way better. (Although what Schnepp says and his score is so different to me. There's a disconnect)

Will check it out this weekend.

For me the major thing that stood out was the pacing. The theatrical felt far more choppy and messy within the first two acts. Even though this is longer, it flows much better and is nowhere near as jarring going back and forth. Much more balanced.

Not sure if this is exclusive to Ultimate Cut or was in the theatrical one as well and I just didn't notice it, but it would seem that Superman "says" to Lois to get rid of the kryptonite spear right before he flies away to confront Lex, by looking in the direction of the spear that is lying on the ground and giving her a meaningful look to which Lois responds with a reassuring smile. If I have translated this exchange of looks correctly, it would mean that Lois didn't decide to toss it in the water on her own.

Batman should've taken it. Why leave that lying around?

Is it possible to buy The Ultimate Edition digitally if you live in Europe? And! Does it contain the special features?

I just finished watching the Ultimate Cut of this movie. Saw the theatrical release in the theater, obviously. I didn't like it very much at all when I first saw it. The UC is... Significantly??? better? Well, it is at least better paced. It obviously does not improve the overall dread-filled, hopeless tone of the movie, but if this was the cut that was released theatrically, I would have appreciated it more upon its initial release.

Still not great, but better.

The ultimate cut contains a bundle of the Ultimate Cut, theatrical release, and special bonus features.

Well said..

WOW. Their opinions changed THAT much? And all of them hated the TC right? Didn't Umberto write a letter to Warner Bros about how BvS broke his heart or something?

they were like...

Called it Night and Day...which is appropriate in more ways than one.

Happy to report the new Batman v Superman: Ultimate Edition shows a slightly less incompetent Superman!

Adam says people are overhyping it

Happy to report that internet likes to overhype things. But, I'm a little happier. #BatmanvSuperman

Lex creating Doomsday is not a "plot hole". He creates Doomsday in order to kill Superman. If you follow his motivation "you can not be all powerful and all good" then this is his only move.

Think of the alternative. Superman beats Batman (the likely outcome in Lex's mind). That would mean he successfully has demonised Superman for killing someone but still has to deal with Superman. He asks the scout ship how to kill Superman ("create Doomsday") and that's what he does.
Does he really think that Doomsday will go and destroy the world? No. he thinks he might be able to gain control over it since it has his DNA, and he was willing to risk it because his plan was already in motion.
Plus, Doomsday is the living embodiment of being "all powerful, but not all good."
So whatever outcome, he proves he is right.

Except he can not predict that Batman and Superman would resolve their difference, save Martha, and get support from Wonder Woman.

Saw the UC today. I think, which Lex Luthor is under some kind of influence of Darkseid, he was going to activate Doomsday anyway.

I think the Communion scene establishes that he was in contact with Steppenwolf and was getting instructions. Maybe Lex thought he could control Doomsday using some alien tech but we were not shown what or else he was mislead.
