The Cape

I hated Micah...with a passion

didn't he get shot and killed?? Larters boyfriend

well the show is over now and the world is better for it

Yes he did.
Season 1 was good, season 4 was ok, the rest not so much.

I thought we were talking about the black girl in the pilot of The Cape at the police station.

My bad, I was talking about Monica ( Heroes ).

Sorry for the hijack with Heroes.

Anyway, with The Cape and No Ordinary family that's two superheroes shows on the air, I will not complain. I managed to watch Smallville ( since season 5 ) I can handle The Cape, it's like a motion comic on screen ( with Summer Glau flavor :p )

Why can't they just say "copy"?

"Aping" or "to ape" is a higher level [and more specific] form of "copying," in that it implies an action being copied. You can "copy" someones notebook, but it would be improper to say that you "aped" it. "Mimicking" is much closer in meaning, but "to ape" also implies that the mimic was less than successful in copying the original action (i.e., an ape copying a human's actions).

ok??

I'm trying to say that the poster had a specific reason for using "ape" over "copy" or even "mimic." That is, Heroes was "badly copying" 4400. I suppose he could have said "badly copying," but the implications of "ape" are more insulting.

I just figured it was the poster trying to be clever

Exactly. The idea of the Promicine enzyme/drug in The 4400 was explored in very rich detail over the latter two season of the series, and actually made for one of the most heartbreaking episodes of the show, wrapping up one of the major underlying subplots from the very beginning of the series.

So when Heroes (and I've always made comparisons between in and 4400) introduces a drug to give people powers and it's presented in such a clichéd fashion, and WITH an actor from the 4400, I really wanted to flip some tables when I watched that episode.

Even with the 4400 getting unexpectedly canceled, it ended with a lot of it resolved, and in such a way that I was ultimately satisfied with the outcome. The whole conceit of the series was that it presented these characters that were abducted over time and returned all at once, changed to prepare for an event that would threaten Earth in the future, but what you ultimately discover is that whatever this event is, it's irrelevant. The engaging factor in the series was never about an over-arching mystery that needed to be solved by series end, it was how humanity changed when this spectacular event occurs; 4400 abductess spanning 80 years who all return at once, the same as they had been when they were taken.

I can't wait for this to be canceled

Why??,I f'n hate it when people say **** like that!,There could be some fans for it But YOU hate it and so it should be canceled!?.....IF you don't like it then why not forget it/ignore it and let it go instead of wish for it to die officially??

And why make it harder for future superhero shows to get on the air?

If this fails, the networks are just going to shy away from heroes, and sci-fi in general, even more.

Indeed!,Some people just think about there selfish own opinions instead of thinking of different things&people.

Exactly.

Now if only they canceled those damn reality shows! ;) :p

they've been making superhero TV shows for 50+ years, one bad series wont sink the genre. If you have a poorly done show, it's better if it sinks and quickly and the networks see why it sunk. A bad series that hangs around will only lead to more bad series.

Well the thing is lately superheros havent been fairing well on tv. Heroes faced an ugly death, No Ordinary Family is steadily dropping in the ratings and now The Cape is being critically panned and probably wont last past 5 episodes. If i were a network exec looking at this trend, i would want to stay away from superheroes on tv.

They've been making sci-fi shows for decades too, but how many of those are still around outside of Syfy. And even Syfy seems to have cut back.

outside of smallville which in many ways is far departure from the superhero genre well to me its more melo drama there hasnt been a real superhero show. i mean really embrace the comic book lore with lavish costumes ,over the top villains etc, etc. i think the cape is really embraces that unlike any show since louis&clark and the flash.

Thing with this type of show is that superheros are rarely seen outside of cartoons on tv. When they are done live action it's got to be harder cause everything has to be budgeted to the very last penny. Sure there's been shows in the past but Heroes died a horrible death, Lois and Clark was pretty much the same thing every week and The Flash was awesome but died somehow...

Anyhoo, wishing death upon The Cape is stupid. It's two episodes in for godssake! Give it time.

LOL OK and Lost wasnt one of the most successful series of all time? You've also got Fringe, Medium, V, Merlin, Supernatural, True Blood, etc. There's a ton of sci-fi stuff out there currently on almost every big network.

Regardless of your personal feelings on the show, which is a discussion for another forum, it's the longest running superhero show of all time. The very reasons you cite for it not being a "real superhero show" even though the show has had costumes for years now and has introduced every piece of the DCU they've been allowed to, are probably a big part of the reason it survived so long.

Comparing the Cape to the cheesefests that were the short-lived 90's Flash series, and Lois and Clark isnt exactly helping it's case.

My case for the cape is that it's true to it's comic
book roots and should wish it well if you want another show like moon knight, aquaman, or etc, etc to make it to the little screen. As far as smallville I haven't watched in many years after I figured out that Clark would never wear the blue and red with the cape. To my knowledge he still hasn't although many other heroes have showed up some actually wearing a costume.

 It doesnt have "comicbook roots" it was created for TV by NBC.

I hoped it would be the case but regardless of how it does, it's not going to impact any other superhero show down the line. Maybe it will get NBC to stop creating these lame made-up superhero shows they create and actually steer them towards something that does have an established history in comics.

He's going to wear it before this final season ends. It's sort of the ending moment of a show about him becoming Superman.

Those aren't exactly standard, futuristic sci-fi. In fact, many of those aren't sci-fi at all (e.g. Medium, Merlin, Supernatural, True Blood, etc). They're mostly 'supernatural/paranormal'; which is closer to fantasy if not in its own separate category/genre. And with Supernatural and True Blood, the reason for their longevity is because they captured a strong female fanbase (not part of the traditional target audience for the action/horror genre); thereby increasing its viewership.

it doesnt have to have a comic book to stay true to the comicbook roots the show was concieved upon

I am sure you believe that but its not going to happen...how often did the show from the first season tease he was gonna fly?
The power of Smallville is in its ability to keep people waiting for Clark to become Superman...or I like to call it Smallville Blueballs...its like Megan Fox saying she is going to have sex with you and you are happy because she's incredibly hot...but as time goes by you start to realize it aint gonna happen.
...if you think that in any point he is going to put on the suit on camera then I think you are in for some disappointment

LOL OK, Fringe is barely holding on, and likely not to return. Medium's been dying for a while, and is canceled with a shortened season. V barely got a second season. And pretty much every other sci-fi show is either dying, or barely holding on.

Merlin isn't scifi, even though it's on Syfy. Supernatural isn't sci-fi, nor is True Blood.

The only sci-fi show that I can think of that's actually successful right now is Eureka. It's ratings have actually grown every season. And it's a family friendly show.

So Vinnie Jones pretty much plays a rip-off Killer Croc in this show?
