Captain Marvel Vol 8 #6
"Higher, Further, Faster, More: Part Six"

In which the bad guy is defeated by the power of friendship (plus some violence) and he's big mad about it.

fleet.jpg

Captain Marvel taking on an entire fleet all on her own.

With this issue ends the Higher, Further, Faster, More story arc. Just in case it wasn't clear enough, I love it. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best story ever written about Carol Danvers.

Captain Marvel Vol 8 #8
"Release the Flerken: Part Two"

In which Chewie gives birth to hundreds of Flerkittens and Carol tries to leave her on an alien planet and oh God now I'm having The Fox and the Hound flashbacks and I'm crying.

This is the issue where this happens:

Captain Marvel Vol 8 #9
"Lila Cheney's Fantabulous Technicolor Rock Opera"

In which Captain Marvel fights for an alien prince's right to marry for love.

Most of the dialogue in this issue is spoken in rhyme.
I love this story because it's completely ridiculous, and it reminds me of when shows like Xena would have musical episodes out of nowhere.

Captain Marvel Vol 8 #10
"A Christmas Carol: Part One of Two"

In which Kit (the little girl who's a fan of Captain Marvel), Jessica Drew and Rhodey defeat Grace Valentine and her army of rats thanks to the lessons they've learned from Carol.

Imagine not loving this character. I can't relate.

I guess pointing out that today's cover is a homage to the cover of Ms. Marvel Vol 1 #1 would be superflous, it's so obvious.

"A Christmas Carol: Part One of Two"
Nice homage to the cover of the first series. And you really do have the best avatar here.

After finally reading that first issue, I'm glad they dropped the split personality bit out the window. She's not the Hulk, she shouldn't have his pain.

Hey dude, good to see you back.

Yeah, I wasn't a fan of the split personality thing either, I'm glad it only lasted a few issues.

Captain Marvel Vol 8 #11
"A Christmas Carol: Part Two of Two"

In which Captain Marvel saves Santa Claus. No, seriously.

sc.jpg

"But wait, wasn't she in space?" Well yes, but thanks to Lila Cheney's teleportation powers she managed to spend Christmas Eve on Earth. She's not officially back home yet.

Well sure, why not? He stopped a burglar dressed as him once in Marvel anyway.

She has powerful allies!

Captain Marvel Vol 8 #12
"The 7 Seconds Before You Die: Part 1"

In which space orcs kidnap Chewie and Carol's sidekick, Tic. Yep, someone stole her flerken cat again.

CM 8 13.jpg

Captain Marvel Vol 8 #13
"The 7 Seconds Before You Die: Part 2"

In which Captain Marvel cuts the moustache of the space orcs leader with a laser... and that's how she forces the space orcs to surrender.

“cuts the moustache of a space orc with a laser”.

That is a great one for the bucket list!

Captain Marvel Vol 8 #14
"The Black Vortex: Chapter 11"

In which Captain Marvel fights Thanos' son Thane, Ebony Maw and J'Son over a magic mirror.
This issue is a tie-in to the Black Vortex arc, which I haven't read, so don't ask me what is going on.

That's just cool.

I'm seeing it Friday night after work so I have a couple more days.

Also, I enjoyed this first volume from DeConnick's run but the next volume not so much. Who knows, if the flick is great, I'll pick up another/different run.

Captain Marvel Vol 8 #15
"The Next Right Thing"

In which Carol's grumpy old friend Tracy Burke dies, but that doesn't stop her from playing one last prank on poor Carol.

laff.jpg

Jessica just can't help but laugh at things.

This is the last issue of Volume 8. It's good and emotional and the perfect ending to the best series ever written for this character. And that's my opinion, but also kind of a fact.

Here ends our dumb little journey through Carol Danvers' adventures over the years.
Lots of laughs were had, lots of villains punched Carol and got punched by her, lots of love interests died... all in all, it was a fun ride (but the Civil War tie-ins will never not suck).

Now, I wish this journey hadn't ended in a disappointment for me, but eh, you can't have everything.
Enjoy the movie, everyone.
