The Catwoman/Selina Kyle Casting Thread - Part 1

I love Bruce Timm, but never understood his whole thing with Babs/batman

I don't really get Ferguson as Selina. She's more of an Andrea Beaumont to me.

I'm not familiar enough with the rest of her body of work to make a judgement about how whether she's more suited to Selina, Talia, or Andrea. MI:RN showcased her raw charisma, ability to seem duplicitous and trustworthy at the same time, and the sheer physicality appropriate for any of those roles.

I can say that I hope that she or any other candidate for the role plays a more devil-may-care Post Crisis Catwoman, one who smiles and sneers more than maintains a sultry stoicism. I kind of want an experienced Catwoman who has a history with Batman, but also loves to tease him and poke fun at his brooding nature.

And an older and more experienced Catwoman almost has to incorporate a bit of a daredevil and adrenaline junky interpretation into her personality. A younger and more desperate Catwoman, like Hathaway's, does what she does because she has to. I want a Catwoman who honestly is most likely set for life, but keeps doing what she does because she likes it.

I would hope not. For years, most have seen her as a daughter of sorts to Bruce, or at least a sister. No way in Hell those two should ever be a couple.

But, as shown above, some people seem to think differently...waaaayyyy differently.

Idk wtf you have against the Al Ghuls but it's weird. They're some of the most important characters in the Batman mythos
I can't wait to get a glimpse at DCEU Ra's and Talia. They need to be done right . I'm not satisfied with Nolan's Ra's and Talia

That said. Catwoman is far more crucial than Talia. Let's just get Charlize as Catwoman. We need an older woman as Selina. 30+ is a must

I think we sometimes forget just how big of an impact the 60's show had on certain modern Batman creators; Tim uses the show to justify the attraction between Bruce and Babs, and I don't think he ever really realized how his initial following of the comics with Dick and Babs instead kind of solidified most modern fans perception of the Original Bat Trio.

Because just in the context of the old show, his shipping kind of makes sense, since West's Bruce was one smile away from making any woman fall for him on an episode by episode basis, and since early Batgirl was kind of designed to be attractive to both him and Robin. It was only later, in other decades after attitudes have kind fo shifted, that the idea of a relationship between a superior (Batman) and one of his students suddenly became a clearly more exploitive than most people were comfortable with. Then Batman kind of evolved further into the personification of the superhero patriarch in the 90's, and any such relationship automatically took on some incestuous undertones. Tim isn't alone in his fascination with the idea, though; the guy who wrote the Batman Beyond comic decided it'd be interesting to say that Dick and Bruce fell out finally thanks to Babs being pregnant with Bruce's child when she and Dick were getting back together.

And all that's part of the reason why Catwoman always has to be as mature as Bruce in at least some fashion; Nolan's Selina was clearly world weary enough to meet that element, even though they kind of implied her character had to have been pretty young back when Batman's career was launched. A physically older Catwoman is easier to accept being more flirty and young acting because then her age would make it clear she chooses to act like that.

^ Again, a solid choice I could really get behind. She expressed interest back before Hathaway was announced for TDKR. To this day I still wish they would've gotten Beckinsale instead of her.

Hathaway was feeble. I can't really endorse Beckinsale for the role at this stage, but she would probably be better.

Really? I noticed her instantly. Then again, I tend to make a mental note of Isralean women....and Italian...and German.

But yeah, I'd still buy Lena Headey as Catwoman. In fact, Headey, Beckinsale & Ferguson (in no particular order) are my top 3 picks.

I'd be a little pissed if they brought Hathaway back. I mean, I know it won't happen anyway, but still. For me, there was nothing stand-out-ish about her portrayal. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't mind-blowing either. And I certainly wouldn't want her getting an opportunity to give another such performance as this character.
