The Dark Knight The Christian Bale/Bruce Wayne thread

Ten things you never know about Christian Bale

Not so long ago, Christian Bale was best known as a Huey Lewis-loving serial killer in ‘American Psycho’. A serious performer most famous for his commitment to his craft (he once dropped a third of his body weight for a role), he spent years as a cult player before stepping firmly onto the A-List with 2005’s Batman Begins. Not content to help revive one flagging franchise, the former child actor now has a second in his sights in the shape of next year’s blockbuster ‘Terminator 4’. As new Batman movie ‘The Dark Knight’ wings its way into cinemas later this month, we unveil ten fascinating facts about Hollywood’s most dedicated star.

1. Christian and his three sisters were born in Pembrokeshire, Wales to a commercial pilot dad and circus clown mum. He spent his childhood moving around the UK and Portugal before settling in Bournemouth for four years.

2. Christian hung around with circus performers as a child and shared his first kiss with an acrobat named Barta.

3. Christian made his TV debut in a Lenor advert at the age of eight.

4. The attention following 1987’s Empire Of The Sun nearly put 13-year-old Christian off acting for life. He says: “It was horrific. I was almost crying in interviews and running away during press conferences, pretending I was going to the bathroom and just disappearing.” He adds that the interest made him feel like a “ponce”.

5. Christian almost landed Leonardo DiCaprio’s role in Titanic but the producers felt it would be “unfair” to have two Brits playing two Americans. He was also considered for the part of Will Turner in Pirates Of The Caribbean, but lost out to Orlando Bloom.

6. Christian stopped eating red meat after reading about a piglet called Wilbur in children’s book Charlotte’s Web. He is now an active environmentalist and supports organisations including Greenpeace and the World Wildlife Foundation.

7. Christian is nothing if not thoughtful to his viewing public. If he puts on an accent in a film, he’ll keep it going in all promotional interviews so the audience doesn’t become confused.

8. Is Christian as obsessive in life as he is about the roles he plays? “The only thing that I’m obsessed with is sleeping and, actually, it is more than an obsession, it is a pleasure,” he reveals. “I love sleeping so much that I could do it 12 hours a day if I didn’t have to turn on the alarm clock... and still, sometimes...” Hmm, we know the feeling!

9. Christian married Sandra (Sibi) Blazic, Winona Ryder’s former assistant, in Las Vegas in 2000. The couple are so secretive about their family life that the name of their three-year-old daughter has never been released. (It is widely believed to be Emmaline).

10. Christian insists that his growing status has not had a huge impact on his life. He says: “I still do all the things I’ve always done. I would never want to give up a life of just bumming around, and hanging out by the freeway, or cemeteries, or the parking lot of the 7/11. I would hate to give that up.”

Glad Bale didn't do Titanic.

cool Batman pics. brings back sweet memories when those first hit online. but i have to say whenever i see the BB pictures i remember Bale saying how he constantly had a headache and made him extra grumpy. so all those BB photos where he looked so badass, Bale is really swearing his head off every chance he can get

I'm glad Bale didn't do Pirates either. We all know what happend with that series...

^ what happened to it? i thought they sucked from the beginning but I'm interested to know how you thought it degenerated, if it did

I enjoyed the first one.

The second one has NO PLOT. So I thought it was ridiculous

The third one...ahem..'nuked the fridge' with it's crappy plotline that pretty much eliminated what the main character achieved in the first POTC, making the first film irrelevent.

Hi everyone venom628 here and i've started to make this thread for all the peoples favourite charcter Batman. Just so you all know CHRISTIAN BALE IS BRUCE WAYNE!

dude MOTHER **** TO THE HELLZ TO THE EFFIN HELLZ TO THE YEA MOTHER TRUCKAS!!!!

srsly yo, everytime i watch this movie there even more allegorical and symbolical treats awaiting =]

and another thing I ****ING LOVE CHRISTIAN BALE'S BATMAN VOICE. IT IS ****ING SICK. people keep saying it sounds forced, contrived and overdone. NO, IT IS ****ING BEAUTIFUL. He basically took the best death metal vocals humanly possible without being over the top and too cheesy and peppered it with hints of film-noir type annunciation. ****ING SPECTACULAR MR. BALE BRAVO, BRAVO INDEED!!

i cant wait for the sequel to this....

=]

Wow, cool infos ^^^. I never knew Bale's mother was a circus clown, maybe when he had that fight with her a few weeks ago, he was still in character and thought she was one of Joker's henchman.:cwink:

There were some good performances in them. Depp as Jack Sparrow in the first film was entertaining, but the subsequent films showed you can get too much of a good thing. Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa, Stellan Skarsgård as Boostrap Bill and Bill Nighly as Davy Jones were all good as well.

In regards to the overall quality of the films though, the 2nd and 3rd were really poor in my opinion. The plot got harder to follow, seemed to become overly complicated for the sake of it to the point it made no sense and it seemed to cram in as much Depp as possible....and then add in even more.

Honestly, I think he should have channeled those feelings while wearing the TDK suit. While Bale still did Batman very well, I miss that animalistic pissed off rage that he had in Begins.

I can accept that it was a different feeling, a different kind of Batman in a way at this point. And it was still Batman, he was very convincing AS Batman. But I just wish it was the "pissed off animal like Batman."

He still had the animalistic presence in TDK . It was just contained a little more than BB .

But it was still their . It pop up

At the nightclub when we see a badass close up shot of Batman grabbing Maroni , Then When he was Interrogating Maroni .

Also When he was interrogating The Joker

And the last scene he had with the Joker .

Still didn't beat Batman's interrorgation of Flass when it came to pissed off animalistic Batman.

Though I do want to revisit the Batman/Maroni scene

Dammit, now I want to see the movie again and I don't have any money to spend on it.:woot:

Animalistic or not, whenever I see Bale under the cowl, he definitley has the closest resembelence to Batman in the comics. And when he doesn't wear it, he DEFINITLEY looks like Bruce Wayne.

I just saw it again last night, and this time I focused more on Bale then Ledger. I actually totaly changed my mind about th voice. It was really good. I don't care what people say. Batman needs to dsguise his voice. The only part that sounded bad was when he was saying to Joker that people are good or something. Also, those are some super badass pictures I think I like the Begins suit better. It was more organic. Although the cowl looked terrible in TDK. It looked like there was a foot of space from his nose to his mouth.

Also, is it just me or was Bale a bit to skinny in this film? In Begins he was really bulked up but in TDK his face seemed really hollow and his neck was really thin. It kinda bugged me.

He looked exactly the same to me, perhaps a little bit smaller but the difference is hardly noticed among most people.

Just kidding but in all seriousness there is a slight difference in his face.

I understand but like I said it was hardly noticable IMO. Its not like it matters anyway :hehe:

A trip back down memory Lane
Bale wins The Best Hero award @ The 2006 MTV movie awards

LOL i remember this. Bale is notoriously tight lipped and media shy, but give him a couple of pints and he'd be a babbling brook :hehe:

i noticed it right away, Christian is more gaunt looking for TDK than he was for BB. he really should gain more weight, he looks better for one thing.

I'm watching Batman Begins again, it's been a long time since I last saw it (I've only watched it once). I forgot how good it is. He definitely was a lot more muscular in Begins than in TDK, his arms primarily, but he still looks good in TDK. I also forgot how handsome this man is. He's so beautiful I could cry.
