The Dark Knight The Christian Bale/Bruce Wayne thread

i find it a bit ironic that the Academy and Guild members would only seriously consider an actor's performance in a film like this if they're dead :whatever:. i mean God forbid, but does Bale have to go six feet under just so that he can finally be recognized for his work? for all the outstanding performances he's done since he was 13, he's never been nominated for an Academy award and the closest he ever got to a SAG was an ensemble cast nomination.

I agree. But hopefully, in the next few years, he'll get his recognition. I mean, if a no-talent hack like Leo Dicaprio can be nominated 3 times, why can't Bale. Hopefully, Public Enemies will bring that.:brucebat:

Dicaprio is a no talent hack? I didn't get that memo.

I think he is. Hee can't act, all he does is say his lines, do the same hand motions. All he every changes up in his performances are the accents, and even that sounds fake. Of course, that's my opinion.

That is a really terrible opinion. lol. What films have you seen him in that you thought he was bad honestly.

I saw TDK again yesterday, The movie belongs to Heath but Bale rocks. He is the ultimate Batman/Bruce Wayne.

I think it's a crime that Bale not only wasn't awarded, but was not even nominated for his performance in The Machinist.

Then again, I always thought the Oscars are decided more by politics and personal inferiority complexes rather than actual performances.

I agree. Unfortunately the Oscars have a long history of getting it wrong. "Dances with wolves" over "Goodfellas", yeah right.

All of them! Plus, you can't tell me I have a terrible opinion, because it's my opinion. The only reason Titanic made bank, wasn't because he was any good, its becuase of these dumb preteens who only like him for his looks, and it gave Hollywood a reason to put him anywhere. I love The Departed, but he's so average there. Same goes for Blood Diamond. Yeah, he changes his accents, but I always feel like I'm watching the same character from the rest of his films. The only reasons I watch his films, is for the other performances: DDL, Gangs Of NY; Mark Wahlberg, The Departed; Djimon Hounsou, Blood Diamond. Body Of Lies is looking to be another average performance of his, doing the same performance, just with a beard this time.

Bale, DDL, Bardem: they know how to change it up, how to distance each of their characters from the other. Dicaprio, I just don't see it. I'm sorry if I offended by saying I thought Leo is a bad actor, but that my opinion.

Only movie of his that I love his performance was Eating Gilbert Grape. I love his performance there, and had hoped that he'd continue to impress me with range like that.

Okay, so for the longest time I was content and completely satisfied with Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne and Batman. And then I remember there was some post on SHH which made me look at Bale's portrayl of Wayne differently. And not in a good way.

Anybody else get the vibe as Wayne, he talks a little too low, and a little too emotionless? I mean I know he's a beast as Batman, he's freaking awesome in the role but as Bruce Wayne, something is kind of empty, almost like he's phoning his lines in? Or am I just putting a microscope on Christian Bale, trying to pick out the flaws?

I mean, I know his face still tells a story and his expressions are excellent but I'm feeling he's lacking presence in his voice, especially when paired with Neeson, Caine, Freeman and Eckhart.

Isn't Wayne supposed to be a shallow character ? I think Bale actually does an amazing job as Batman and as Bruce Wayne. But to each their own.

Yes, to quote Nolan on Bruce Wayne:

"There is this hollow quality to him. He's damaged goods."

Bale captures that to a tee.
