The Dark Knight The Christian Bale/Bruce Wayne thread

he really should gain more weight, he looks better for one thing.

He looked fine in TDK he was still buff, just not as much as BB . Plus Christian said the new suit didn't require him to get buffed-up like the BB batsuit .

Why would he have needed to bulk up more for the BB suit? So that the extra strength from the muscles could have handled the weight of the BB suit?

nah dude i was referring more to his face than his body build. i expressed my sentiments way back that i wished he had a bigger build but with the design of the new Batsuit that explains why he wasnt that big. but his face, i noticed right away looked "gaunt" (that was in the Chicago Press Con before they started shooting), and i was concerned that this will appear in the film, and it did unnecessarily in some scenes. its just something i noticed about Bale as he's getting older. but this "gaunt" look disappears when he's properly rested or has taken on roles that requires him to bulk up a great deal (BB, Harsh Times). i know its just a nitpick on my part, but i've been a fan of his for a long time and i know how much better he can look by adding just a few extra pounds.

His arms are a thing of beauty...

Bale was great as usual, but he should really work on his Batman voice. It wasn't necessarily bad, but it could have been better. I prefer his voice in Begins.

Myself and my friends have been laughing about his GOD AWFUL batman voice since we saw the film. It is distractingly poor.

LOL i remember this. Bale is notoriously tight lipped and media shy, but give him a couple of pints and he'd be a babbling brook :hehe:

i noticed it right away, Christian is more gaunt looking for TDK than he was for BB. he really should gain more weight, he looks better for one thing.

There were also scenes in Batman Begins (particularly the ones depicting Wayne in Bhutan) where Bale's appearance might have looked a little "gaunt" to some. That's not the case here though. Bale isn't skinny. His arms and back are pretty buff (as seen in TDK), although not to the extent they were in Begins. Regarding his face, it should be noted that Bale has what many call "hawkish or sharp" features, which is pretty cool, in my opinion.

See what I mean? Not much of a difference here?

Thanks to Poetic for the pix.

I just watched "Empire of the Sun" again. It's great to look at little 13 year old Bale and think, "in 21 years you'll be Batman."

Re: Batman voice
Maybe he can approach Michael Keaton for some tips :woot:

Begins screen caps. Excuse me for the first 100 or so (lol) are in regular size, where the next uh...700 are in widescreen. Made a small mistake...

I think he just needs to tone it down, but if it's tips he needs he should go talk to Kevin Conroy.

oh i understand what you mean by the hawkish features-- the strong nose, the deepset brow, even his high cheekbones. that's part of his good looks. but look at the area around the eyes, the sunken cheeks, in some photos his laugh lines never fades. just use the comparison photos Alexdunn uses. you'll see what i mean about him looking unnecessarily gaunt and looking his best after a adding a few extra pounds.

I´d say Keaton was the most brooding Bruce Wayne, but most interesting, never. He had nothing of the charming yet shallow playboy facade, which of course is Burton´s notion that Bruce´s absent-minded when he´s not Batman, which I totally disagree with.

I always saw Keaton's Batman/Bruce Wayne in a much older stage, say around mid 30s, which would explain some of the personality change. And of course, the way he looks. I'd go so far as to say that maybe one or to more Nolan films, Bruce takes a break from the whole Batman persona for a few years. And makes a 'comeback' during 'Batman' where we see Michael Keaton's portrayal. Batman is almost a myth at this point in Gotham City in the sense that no one has seen him around anymore, so when he comes back, it makes sense that everyone is kind of like 'wtf a bat, really?'

If that's okay. Just my little fantasy... :D

His face looked really thin in American Psycho as well. I think he had very little body fat in that one. I gotta agree with Steelsheen, I think he looks much better when he has more meat on his bones. It makes him look less severe. When he's thinner, his cheekbones look like they can take an eye out.

It wasn't unnecessary. He looks very sickly with more creases around his eyes, skin pale and a somewhat emaciated appearence in the first shot of him under that florescent lighting, and its because he hasn't been pushing himself too hard since Begins. His body is strong but his lifestyle is unhealthy and it is very effective that it shows in his face.

...I love the way he looks now...Fits the movie...He's stressed out of his mind!

yeah valid point there. as i said earlier i was concerned with his appearance in the Chicago presscon and how that will show in the film but i didnt know what Bruce's mindset would be like in the movie. looking haggard because Bruce is haggard does make sense.

however its not a permanent look Bale should have, which i'm afraid is what is happening as he gets older/ more busy. here are photos of him out of character, and you can see what i meant by him looking better if he gained a few pounds.

^A haircut can change the way someone's face looks dramatically as well; different eyebrow shape, of course weight and make up.

I only have one question. A bit off topic, but here goes...

How much truth is there to the rumor that Bale is playing Solid Snake?

I think that was just pure fan speculation really. I reckon he'll be tied up with terminator movies and a third bat picture. And I'm sure in between those he'd like to do a more personal smaller scale film a la "Harsh Times" or "Rescue Dawn".

I hope so. He needs his Oscar! Wouldn't it be fricking cool if we had an Oscar-Winning actor play Batman that ISN'T Clooney? I seriously hope he can top RD. Best role of his career.:brucebat:

Agreed. A really superb performance, the great thing about his current success is it will open a lot of doors for those those kinds of film to get backing! He has just starred in one of the biggest ever, so I'm sure we can look forward to some more of those more indie type flicks.

Agreed. The Academy's looked over him so many times, it's not fair. The Machinst, RD, American Psycho... Maybe for Public Enemies, Best Supporting? :brucebat: One can only dream.
