Reading my comments, I went a little overboard, and for that I apologize. All I say is before someone says "X is a total ripoff of Y", you do a little research beforehand, and I realize that didn't excuse my flame.

Yes I do know that this was the same director as Shrek, so there may have been some influence from the directors perspective. However the lines the character says are straight out of the book, as well as the mannerisms.

Let's face it, you can look at just about any movies and there are achetypes that can fit into any genre. Puss and Boots and Reepicheep are both architypes of the writings of Alexandre Dumas and the Three Musketeers, and Emma Orczy's Scarlet Pimpernel.

Finally, I didn't mean to paint everyone who plays an X-Box or watches Anime with the same brush. In fact, I do both. My main point was just to broaden your horizons a bit, and the way it came off it just sounded like a flame and undermined the point I was trying to make.

Now that's all I have to say on the subject, let's just move forward.

Its cool Tony. No worries. I still...like you. Yeah. *nods his head* Your a decent hypster. yeah.

I think it will have a hard time making 200 million...but it's the only real family movie out there now, so it might have longer legs.

Iron Man got his ass kicked by Prince Caspian :wow:

It's Iron Man's 3rd week and Prince Caspian's first...Iron Man should have gotten it's ass kicked...but it really wasn't kicked as Iron Man still made a really good amount of money for it's 3rd weekend.

Near 60 million, pretty good haul. Especially considering Caspian was taking on Iron Man.

Saw it today. Pretty good. 8/10. Question though.
Did the book have the Caspian/Susan romance? I haven't read the books but I just have this feeling this was added just for the movie.

Yes this was an add in for the movie. Also there was one battle scene added that wasn't in the book
The one where they invade Miraz's castle

What was this movies budget? 200 million?

So if you adjust the numbers by budget and box office...this movie isnt doing all that better than Speed Racer...

Speed Racer budget- $150 million
Opening weekend: $20 million

Narnia budget- $200 million
Opening weekend- $60 million

if you subtract that $50 million dollar difference from Narnias budget and opening weekend, it's actually doing comparativerly worse...That's...odd.

Hmmm...I could buy a 200m budget on this. There were a lot of big sets and impressive SFX used.

I had a feeling Narnia wasn't doing so well after seeing the low volume of customers coming in tonight.

I think it has to do with Prince Caspian being a less known book by the general public.

Yeah but Iron Man has been out for a few weeks already. And its almost sad when a movie out a few weeks makes half of what a new blockbuster opening week makes.

I think Caspian will make at least 300 mil worldwide.

Domestically. Worldwide this movie will make 300-400 million.

Also there was one battle scene added that wasn't in the book
The one where they invade Miraz's castle

That scene was awesome. Probably my favorite.

Well...except that Speed Racer has flopped in the international market as well. Caspian will atleast have a chance to make its money back worldwide.

Saw it tonight, pretty good and everyone loved that mouse.

Perhaps with the competition upcoming it might get lost in the mix, but 200 million should be doable. Hell, Alvin and the Chipmunks made over 217 million, and it never was a no. 1 film at the BO and it only opened with 44 million. It had a huge week 3 though with a +3% over the previous weekend.

As you mention, being the only family movie out right now has a huge advantage.

The film isn't going to make 290 mil, like the first movie, but it will do well. It's hardly a flop. Golden Compass.....now there's a family film that flopped.

I tried to watch the Golden Compass...honestly it was hard to follow and it didn't really interest me all that much.

Yeah, the Golden Compass was all over the place...I did admire the artwork and the SFX.

Artwork and the SFX were the only good thing about it but the other stuff was just meh... but with the Narnia novels and movies (so far) they're easy to follow... plus the centaurs are awsome in Caspian.

Bit better than the original, but still lacked any form of subtlety and had several periods of downtime that dragged like hell. 7 out of 10

This may not have been a good weekend to release this. I realize this is the type of film that is typically released in during the "blockbuster season" that runs from May through early August, but I really think this film would have done a lot better had they released it a little later in the summer or pushed it up to March or April and tried to have the success 300 did last spring. That way it wouldn't have to go against Indiana Jones.

I really hate how few good movies there are from about February through May, and then they release one or two good movies every week from May through July, so you end up having to skip several good movies you would normally see, only to get forced to watch a piece of crap you would normally skip in the winter or fall.

Studios should really release more movies during January through April.
