Ciara Renee is Hawkgirl!
What did people think of the trailer? Did you like the small glimpses of her costume we got?

One of my only complaints with the trailer?

THERE WEREN'T ENOUGH SHOTS OF HER!!!! :argh:

From what little we saw of her, both the wings and the flying look good.

I agree. She was one of my fave characters in the JL cartoon so I was glad to see she had a part in this.

As long as it's better than Smallville's Hawkman, I'm good.

From the stills and image enhancements on what we've seen...the helmet and outfit look spot on with the comic, it looks wonderful......from what we can see.

Ciara Renée hasn't tried on her Hawkgirl wings yet.
The CW Upfronts may as well have been the DC TV Universe show, with the majority of the casts of The Flash, Arrow, and the upcoming third show in their family, Legends of Tomorrow all present. While most of the prior casts were looking equally to the past and present as what's next, the Legends additions were all about the future.
Ciara Renee is new to the DC Universe on screen, but the actress revealed she's a longtime fan of the comics and the characters who will grow into Legends on the show during a red carpet interview with ComicBook.com on Thursday. Despite the trailer that shows a CGI Hawkgirl soaring above the city, Renee hasn't gotten to actually put on the wings of Hawkgirl just yet. It's clear from her appearance on the red carpet Thursday, though, that she can't wait for Kendra Saunders to take flight.

Ciara, Hawkgirl is a very different kind of superhero than what we've seen in this CW/DC Universe so far. What's the inital appeal to you about playing a character like this?
Ciara Renee: I think the fact that she's a girl is amazing! We don't see many superheroines, so it's going to be great to see a couple more bolstering the team. And, you know, she can fly! Which is not half bad! (laughs)

In the comics and even on the Justice League animated series, Hawkgirl has usually been a sort of balls-to-the-wall take nothing from anybody kind of character. Is that something you're looking to bring to her on Legends?
CR: Oh yeah, absolutely. It's interesting, because I think we're finding her before she really understands her powers and her purpose. So she's not necessarily a balls-to-the-wall human just yet, but when she gets angry... well you'll see! (laughs)

Rumor has it we'll see you Tuesday night on the season finale of The Flash. What was it like getting to tease the character a little bit before some of the other cast?
CR: Right! It was super cool. It was kind of a last minute thing. I signed on for the show, and they said, "Let's try this!" and I just said, "Absolutely!" I'm excited to see it and how that turned out.

Did you get to put on the wings?
CR: No, we don't have that costume yet, sadly. We're still waiting for that, so not yet.

Are you hoping for the full beaked mask and all?
CR: I love her costume! I think it's hot, man! I'll take any part of it, wings and beak and everything.

What's the general appeal to you of coming into the DC Universe and this new family of comic book shows?
CR: It's so cool. It's such a great community, and the fans are so passionate and excited about this. I was such a nerd as a kid; I watched Justice League all the time, and Justice League Unlimited, and Batman and Superman; I loved those, I love all those cartoons. So it's really cool to be playing the real life version of one of the coolest characters on those shows.

I'd imagine that her look is difficult to translate to live-action, especially the wings. So they're probably still fine-tuning the costume. It looked like it was blue and gold in the trailer, the boots definitely looked blue. I guess the big question is, will her wings be real (like they sprout out of her back or something) or will they be part of her costume?

As for not focusing on her, they seemed to be mostly focusing on the more popular characters in this trailer. Sara, Captain Cold (Heatwave didn't get much to do either), The Atom, and Rory.

As long as it's better than Smallville's Hawkman, I'm good.

Outside of him getting killed off, what was the issue with him? I thought he was the one JLAer that they really nailed to a tee, costume and all. Plus Michael Shanks is about 1,000 kinds of awesome.

His costume was on-point, and still looked bad. I remember thinking "WOW, that costume just does not translate well to live-action." His personality and backstory, on the other hand, that was well-done imo.

Well, I thought what they initially did with his wings did not look right. So, it was better when they made it CGI and that it could fit inside some backpack.

I thought the helmet could have looked better.

I wasn't really feeling the chest armor they gave him, specially the glowing emblem (which turned off like he was some robot or something when he died).

I hope the Hawkgirl costume stays true to the comics. I like Kendra Saunders' backstory. The team has 3 high-flyers of the group so I can see some high-flying action in this series than either Arrow and Flash.

First of all Ciara Renée is freakin :hrt: MOD. Can we ad her name to the thread title?
She reminds me a bit of a young(er) Gina Torres, only more:awesome:

HAWKGIRL! "...A girl with wings and a passed lives complex" :D

What's so freakin trippy in a beautiful kismet sort of way about Ciara Renée being cast, is how close Ciara sounds to Shayera/Shiera. And the word Renée in french means reborn.

The actresses' name playing Shayera reborn is phonetically and figuratively: Shayera - Reborn!

:awesome:

While I don't think it's a casting necessity (Grant Gustin never read a comic in his life), I love to read that she's read comics and watched Justice League and actually knows and is a fan of her character.

She looks great too.

Ciara is pronounced Kiera.

I'm curious/excited to see how she'll do.

Looking forward to it. Been a long time fan of the Thanagarian couple.

Considering they didn't do an actual pilot for this, I wonder if they'll put her in a costume right away now that the it's been ordered to series.

I've realized she never talked in the trailer.

Since Hawkgirl is Kendra Saunders, they should do storylines with her and Roy Harper from the comics.

Outside of the character title cards and old clips from Flash, I don't remember seeing Heatwave anywhere.

I must admit I have a particular bias for Ciara. I saw her perform live on Broadway, and it totally blew me away, but I never though I'd see her in a superhero property.

From her instagram. Hawkgirl helmet fitting?
