The Colour Out of Space

Man, I need this trailer

Pleased this is getting a positive response. I love Lovecraft's writing and Nic Cage's acting. So this seems ideal for me.

Love Lovecraft’s (!) writing but man, was he a terrible human being.

Well that was something.

...I just found out this was shot in my country, holy s***.

And that poster is godly.

I enjoyed this, but it's definitely a slow burn. I just love me some good old fashioned cosmic horror and while watching this I was reminded me so much of the stuff I grew up watching during the 90's like Event Horizon or In the Mouth of Madness. Nic Cage was really entertaining in this as well, although I do kind of wish that they had just let his character be normal for the most part like he was in the beginning of the movie, but Nic Cage turning into Nic Cage is never not entertaining at least. This was a very solid return for Richard Stanley though.

7/10

Just saw this earlier tonight and damn what a movie! Well-made, visually beautiful, great musical score, and solid acting performances from everyone all around. 8/10 for me.

I wasn't familiar with Lovecraft's original story at all, but this movie really reminded me of Alex Garland's Annihilation from 2 years ago in so many ways. It'd be a spoiler to say how, so I won't. ;) It also felt like something ripped out of The Twilight Zone at the same time. So anyone who's a fan of Annihilation, Twilight Zone, and/or Lovecraft should definitely see the movie.

Definitely worth seeing on the big screen too, for the visuals and musical score.

Looks like my kind of weird.

Also, it looks like they have a pet dog. Can someone who has seen it tell me if the doggo dies? (I'm guessing yes, but I'd like to be prepared). TIA.

Saw the trailer for the first time in the cinema last night, this looks like my kind of crazy.

I feel like I have seen a different movie to everyone as I thought it was pretty lame from the start and I was really looking forward to it. Its certainly no Mandy

Yeah same for me. It wasn't bad, but I didn't think it was anything special. I would give it a 6.5/10

For me it's an 8/10.
It's an uncompromising, disturbing horror movie (I don't think I'll easily forget the mother/son subplot) which stays true to the essence of H.P. Lovecraft and is a welcome return for director Richard Stanley, who simply nails the filmmaking in this, not unlike George Miller when he returned with "Mad Max: Fury Road."
I can understand how it wouldn't strike a nerve with everyone, though. It's weird and has a deliberate pace, and even Stanley's older stuff* is not easily liked by everyone.

*I really would have liked to see his take on "The Island of Dr. Moreau." It would be cool if he gets to make it sooner or later, even though I guess it would be less accessible as it needs a bigger budget.
