The Dark Knight The Dark (British) Knight

This is crackers! They pick the actors because of their talents, not their nationality -- some instances, sure (Bond for starters) . . . but not all the time. By the variation of the cast members' nationality we see that where they come from doesn't matter, it is the tools they bring that do.

Woffle woffle woffle :oldrazz:

Imdb are full of ignorant jerks whos opinion arent worth spit, i usually try my best to keep away from the forums.

I can give a rat's arse where they were born, as long as they can act- that's all that matters.

Brits are better actors than Americans. !!! :wow:

Troll alert! And whoever said that Americans play Brits more than the other way around, tell me you are playing the opposite game, because that simply isn't even close to being almost true.

Anyway, it is a bit of a double standard. I can guarantee there would be outrage over an American playing Bond.

I do think Nolan went a bit overboard with the British casting. Couldn't he find an American to play Thomas Wayne, and he should have found one to play Falcone. Wilkinson is good, but his accent was forced and fake as hell.

But in the end, the movie worked. I mean, if someone is mad that Bale isn't American, shouldn't they be mad that he really can't climb buildings and swing through the city?

i don't think there should be a problem with a Welsh actor playing batman more than a texan like Renee Zellweger playing english characters like Bridget Jones and Beatrix Potter.

I hate people like the guy who made that comment in the first post.

IMDB is a little wacky- just check out the Iron Man boards, talk about screw loose.

These guys do nothing but *****, complain and moan - ALL THE TIME! They act like my little sister who constantly throws temper tantrums for christ's sake... place gives me a headache! Okay, end rant-

I would only care if their accent wasn't convincing. Other than that I just want the best actor for the part.

Where's your proof?

Everybody knows it. Gimme me a break

Troll alert!

who, me? :cwink:

Sorry. :o It just irks me when people think they can get away with saying anything at all and not have to explain themselves just because other people find them annoying. :whatever:

I don't think saying british actors are better than american ones is appropriate, it's more like, britain has less crap actors than america, thats all.

Don't believe that we (Brits) don't have as many bad actors. We have loads of terrible actors...it's just that the ones that get to make it in the US are, by and large, the cream of the crop.

Going back to the main question, I don't see nationality as an issue as long as the actor is convincing as the nationality of the character. If Bale's Batman was charging around Gotham speaking with a Welsh accent (or even in Welsh), I could understand the complaints.

Same goes for Bond. If an American actor played the role, as long as he came across as a convincing Brit, there's not many people would give a ****. Let's not forget that Lazenby wasn't a Brit, so it is not unprecedented. Sam Neill was up for the role at one point and he'd have been quite a popular choice. Same goes for Eric Bana and Hugh Jackman when they were rumoured for the part. People want to see good actors above all else.

But I will admit that Wilkinson's accent was a bit hokey. Never had that problem with Oldman though - always found him convincing as a yank, especially in Leon and Romeo is Bleeding. Ditto Bale (seemed very American in American Psycho, Shaft and Harsh Times).

I know this was probably discussed about at length during the first movie, but it irritates me to no end that this Christopher Nolan has the audacity to hire a bunch on his UK chums to play the parts of Americans. How big of a deal would the Brits be making if, say, George Clooney, or Brad Pitt were cast in place of Daniel Craig for the Casino Royale movie? They would have been delirious with anger. Why is it that we Americans seem to let the world of actors (Bale, Oldman, Ledger, Neeson, Tom Wilkinson, Cillian Murphy) play American characters? Hell, even Bruce's dad in the first movie is a Brit! A bit excessive, almost like Nolan was daring the American public to be able to tell the difference, snubbing his nose at us. I left Michael Caine out of the argument since, well, HIS PART SHOULD BE PLAYED BY A BRIT! Neeson's character in the first film i have less of a problem with as his characters' past is unknown, and he doesn't try to fake an American accent in "Begins". Think of the movie "Next Of Kin" with Patrick Swayze to see his bad American accent in action! On that subject, Tom Wikinson was the worst, Oldman was tolerable, barely, but i still knew, which affected my enjoyment of the movie.
I'm not knocking the final product of the film, as it was good, just the execution of it. In the back of my mind while watching the first movie two years ago, i knew they were Brits, except Neeson and Murphy, a couple of micks like myself, close enough. The discerning linguist can hear the forced "R's" when a Brit tries to speak in American accent. It's the difference between "The Joker", and "The Joe-kerr", too much emphasis on the R! It drives me nuts. Enough with my rant. I'm sure the next film will be good, Im annoyed that Nolan is now looking towards Australia for his actors (ledger), and I'll still be annoyed that the Americans that are in the film will only be in the periphery, rather than in the focus of the film.

Is this a relevant criticism for anyone else?

Just from what I highlighted, this guy is a dumb**** and a *****e bag. I thought Swayze was American. Oldman rocked and Wilkinson was good.

Wait.. that post criticised Oldman for his accent?

How can people be so wrong.

The moment he said he did not like Oldman, I sent a highly trained money into the past to introduce birth control to his parents. The time line will change, we will never know this occurred ...

Some people can't nothing find to criticise about, so they pick the actor's nationally and his accent shame really.
