one thing that makes me think that its not ledger is he seems nervous he keeps swaying around.

also note his neck is not bleached white so for people who were hoping, yet another confirmation that his skin isnt bleached white

It actually looks like the camera truck is "resetting," it's pulling back into place. Ledger is just following it back, it seems, and they're having fun by filming him at the same time. If we're lucky, we'll see it in a DVD extra.

And it would be a great twist if the media/Gotham/Batman/Gordon/etc. all thought Joker was just a makeup-wearing freak at first, yet towards the end, they realize...it ain't makeup, it's his skin. That would be horrifying to the characters and please the rest of the diehards at the same time.

However, I think the most logical explanation is that the makeup isn't necessary on certain bodyparts when they're filming certain types of scenes (especially action shots at night.)

The guy skating around is indeed Heath. Although, the guy standing around talking, laughing, - that isn't Ledger. Ledger is extremely focused...he wouldn't be standing around like a regular joe, talking and chatting. That isn't him. That's the stunt double. and the camera car following Ledger while skating wasnt filming, it was merely taking a warm run.

So you are saying all he does when they aren't filming is walk around in his make up and hide in dark corners and laugh hysterically? I suppose that's not him skateboarding either? Obviously such a focused actor would do no such thing, especially if he wouldn't sit and chat with the crew when he isn't filming.

Actually, the rumor going around now (it's one of the other threads, originally from Anjow's forum) is that Nolan leads the audience to believe Joker is just wearing makeup, but at some point in the film, it's revealed that he does indeed have all-white, bleached skin. The quote is that "Joker isn't what he seems." Although I'm not sure how credible the source is, if Anjow backed it up (not sure if he did or not) I'd believe it. Seems like a reasonable assumption, and also something Nolan would do (i.e, screwing with the audience's minds again.)

why do people ***** about Joker's skin not being bleached? Can anyone name a toxic chemical, when immersed in it, you turn into a clown? That's frickin ridiculous!!! Having him paint it on is more realistic. In Batman #1 they never explained why the joker looked that way. Maybe he painted himself to begin with. Some dork of a comic artist came up with an idea: "Wouldn't it be cool if Joker turned white when dumped into chemicals?" YAY! WHAT A GREAT IDEA! (Sarcasm)
