The Dark Knight The Dark Knight's Rogues Gallery

Hey, you can't really put the guy who's made the Rush Hour Trilogy and the guy who's made Usual Suspects and Apt Pupil in the same position now, can you?

they never were directors I really payed close attention to them. I retract my statement because of Usual Suspects and Apt Pupil. I stand by my feeling that their interpretations of superhero characters aren't that interesting.

Again, fair enough. My reaction just before was like that because of each director's overall tribute to cinema. And, to get a bit technical, Singer is still responsible that this genre came back in full force after 1997 killed it (kudos to Goyer for keping it just alive with the Blade Duology).

I always felt Raimi brought the genre back with Spider-man

I'd argue that Raimi is the one who glorified it. But the big hype started undoubtedly with X1.

I suppose, I guess I must be under a rock with this because the only real reaction I got was within the groups of people I know. They certainly appreciated Spider-man more and most seemed uninterested with x-men.

Well, I'm not talking bout reaction to the movies themselves. I'm talking more about 2000 and 2001 when the hype started and everybody talked about how X-Men would be the 1st high-profile comic to be brought to life for the first time after years and blablabla.
The outcome of it is both irrelevant (for our discussion and because of our personal tastes) and relevant (because the movie was well received and after Spidey, the genre had concretely established itself).

Yup we both disagree and view things differently. I do appreciate your logical responses and fair argument and (add generic compliment there) Forgive my blunt and mindless responses I just get tired of stating them all haha

It is a shame we don't see eye to eye on most things. At least we don't get ready to lynch each other over it.

Contrary to what I believe would have happened, the fact that we disagree so often doesn't bother me at all, on the contrary. But I sense another off-topic situation, so I'll stop.

On topic then, my immediate hopes are at least Two-Face, Joker and Catwoman for B3. If we get Riddler, too, me being a happy camper will be a gross understatement.

How do you mean that? Many villains with shared screen time or few villains, spread through the sequels?

Uh less screen time. I love seeing all the villains, but some just can't carry a whole film

Agreed. Not the same mess as the "Batman 1966" movie, but the way Nolan handles them seems fine for me. Not that there aren't other equally effective ways to handle a villain (or 2).

Ya you could handle it many ways, but I think the way it is right now is perfect..

i'm of the belief that most villains couldn't support their own storylines. not a good enough storyline to carry a movie anyway. so you can use them in small ways. you have to assume that batman would be batsignaled for more than just the main villains. he would be taking care of any mugging he sees, he would probably listen to police scanners and arrive at hostage situations and anything that he thinks he can handle better than the police. so things like that could occur in the movies. him trying to stop a jewel thief (catwoman) or a hostage situation that involves some small time villains. that would be a good way to incorporate villains, even though it would upset the people who are big fans of those particular villains. but they should be happy enough that they worked more villains into the movie. (thread resurrection =D)

Yeah, just because you love a villain more than others doesn't mean that that particular villain has the ability to carry a 2 hour movie on his/her own. Batman has so many to choose from, it would make sense to incorporate several into one film, cuz they're all active at the same time in the huge Gotham City. It's not like the villains draw straws to see who'll be terrorizing Gotham that night.

AND they're supposedly not dying this time around, so he won't run out of villains.

Ya, I never understood why directors and such killed off villains. It seemed like a waste of a character.

well for spiderman I understood it, batman I think they closed off some stories by doing that.

Green Goblin had to die. It follows the comics, too. Ock didn't have to, and neither did Venom. Harry was supposed to die, too. It's the only conclusion to the Goblin Saga.
