The nationality of an individual should not even register when we are talking about an actor who will play a blue-skinned alien.

It was reported by THR, so yeah it's pretty close to official. They only report on it when they're a lock for the role, and the negotiations are just setting up the final touches to the contract.

Don't think Gamora's eye paint is going to be as big as in those manips.

I hope Gamora does wear a skimpy costume at some point in the movie. Princess Leia did so with the gold bikini in Star Wars, and it became something iconic and not ridiculed. Gamora should do the same, even if she wears a more respectable costume the rest of the time.

If she's in some kind of generic black catsuit, that would be incredibly boring and indistinguishable. She needs something that everyone will always instantly recognise is Gamora, especially at Halloween parties where people prefer to dress up in iconic costumes (which adds to the memorability) than just a generic black outfit which no-one can then tell who they're supposed to be.

She's played assassins before in Colombiana and The Losers, yeah, but other than "character class," that's where the similarities between those roles and Gamora end. Gamora's main identity is that of a she-devil amazon. More Xena than La Femme Nikita.

I like Zoe Saldana. I wasn't a big fan of Avatar, but she was the best thing in it. I'm happy to see her added to the Guardians of the Galaxy cast, and Gamora seems like an interesting character.

One question, though. I've been wanting to get into Guardians of the Galaxy, and was planning on making the Marvel NOW relaunch my jumping-on point. But this far, at least, it seems like it's the Star-Lord show, even though I find the rest of the ensemble - Gamora in particular - to be more interesting. Are there any great Gamora stories in the comics that show off the character at her best that you guys would recommend I check out?

It's not official yet. They are just in negotiations. Meaning, she was chosen for the part, but the business side of things are still being worked out. And yeah, it could end up being a Momoa situation where negotiations fall through, but that is rare.

Strange Tales #180-181, Warlock #9-11, #15. Avengers Annual #7, Marvel Two-In-One Annual #2. That's Gamora at her rawest. It involves her first appearance and story arc and was all written by Jim Starlin. If you want to see the definitive Gamora, that would be the story.

After that, she was a major figure in the entire run of Warlock and the Infinity Watch. She was in Annihilation: Ronan #3-4 and Annihilation #1 and shows up in a couple early issues of Nova v4. She's a major player in Annihilation: Conquest and Guardians of the Galaxy v2.

But really, unless you want to spend hours reading all of those stories, just sticking to the aforementioned Starlin story would be the best for getting a feel of the character and her background. Annihilation: Ronan #3-4 would also be good because it was the first time the character was used in years and served as a kind of reintroduction and reestablishment for her character.
