You see, I read all that, and I want to believe it. But it just seems like Hollywood double-speak. It seems like he's just being overly nice and trying to paint a nice picture over a bad situation.

For example, the way David Ayer has handled the Suicide Squad situation publicly. He hasn't broken rank like Josh Trank did with Fantastic Four.

Now can I believe that things changed and eventually things were worked out and are more cordial now yeah? But I also get this sense that Goddard's association with the project is out of legal necessity. Now maybe things got worked out and it's not as bad as it seemed. That I can buy, but it's also hard for me to buy there was no animosity at all. This is considering that the reports indicated Marvel, or rather Ike Perlmutter, wanted Goddard removed entirely and have his credits removed from Daredevil.

You might be right, it's hard to know how it really was. Maybe Ike Perlmutter had a huge problem with Goddard, but it was fine between Goddard and people like Jeph Loeb. From what I've heard though, Ike Perlmutter sure seems to be quite the character. I hope he won't have a negative impact on the netflix series.

Well I mean it was pretty widely reported too that Ike Perlmutter almost caused Feige to bolt from Marvel. Then WDS delegated to let Feige and Marvel's film division have more autonomy from Perlmutter, while Feige will basically answer to Horn instead of Perlmutter.

The reports indicated that Perlmutter almost got in the way of Downey returning for an increase role in Civil War, since it would've meant paying him more. Also, it was Perlmutter who apparently nixed the revealed villain in Iron Man 3 being female because of toy sales. Even though an action figure of Killian Mandarin was never even made.

Isnt it true that he got in the way of properties like black panther and captain marvel too?

Yikes. I'm happy that he's off the movies, but I really hope he doesn't screw with the netflix shows. :pun:

Interview with Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez, showrunners for the Defenders

Does television allow you to spend more time exploring the part where the Defenders don’t get along at first?

Petrie: You have time over the many episodes, exactly, to spread out the characters, let them breathe, let them expand and let them get to know each other, so they don’t have to love each other right away, but we’ll love them by the end.

Ramirez: I really think what the focus of these shows and what makes a show like Daredevil and a show like [Jessica Jones] and I’ve seen Luke [Cage], it’s fantastic, is that they’re really sophisticated character stories. So I think the thing that excites us the most going into The Defenders and writing these scripts is just to tell character stories and interaction between them, watch them bump up against each other.

That was the most fun part of The Avengers when they didn’t get along for the first half of the movie.

Petrie: Of course. It’s fun because it’s just like any other family. They have to fight.

Ramirez: What’s been fun is we have a lot of time to tell his story. It’s not a two-hour movie. We’ll have eight or however many episodes so really everybody gets to interact with everybody. It’s been one of the great joys of watching something like The Avengers or The Dirty Dozen, any movie like that. Any of those stories feels like people are going to watch people grow, bump heads, fight along the same side. We want to watch all that.

Talking about pairing the characters up for different interactions:

Are you able to design episodes where it’s only one Defender, or they pair off?

Petrie: We’ll be doing a lot of mixing and matching absolutely, but I think the fun of it is to see the team.

Action:
Is designing the action different, figuring out how four people with abilities work together?

Petrie: Oh my gosh, yes. The fight scenes are exponentially more complicated, but also there’s an opportunity too that’s much more fun.

Continuing the storylines:
Does showrunning The Defenders leave you in a better place to set Matt Murdock up for his season three?

Petrie: Oh sure. We will be returning all of our characters to interesting new places where their respective show runners can pick up the threads.

Could Defenders be Daredevil season 2.5?

Ramirez: In a way, it kind of has to be everybody’s next season. In a way it has to be JJ season 1.5 and Luke season 1.5 and Iron Fist 1.5. In a way, we owed it to all the characters to make it the next step in their progression so we could tell this massive story and then they can ideally, as JJ season 2 has already been picked up, go back in and stay very true to who they are in their own stories when they go back into their own.

Seems likely that DD and LC will have some disagreements as to who should be leader. Causing a rift that ends with Cage starting the H4H and DD returning to his solo career.

Here's hoping we do end up getting a Defenders S2 though. And for that, I'd like to see the return of Purple Man.
That sounds awesome. Would really allow the shows to break from the Avengers blueprint.

there needs to be a clubhouse/HQ with everybody's hero symbol on a chair.

No surprise. Simone and Marco Ramirez following each other on twitter was the giveaway for me. :) But glad to see it confirmed.

So after finishing Luke Cage here's few thoughts for Defenders.
  • Claire will be studying martial arts with Colleen Wing and that's how she comes to meet Danny
  • Since Luke is currently behind bars, and Claire mentions her Lawyer friend. I'm betting either Matt or Foggy will be his lawyer for his exoneration. At the beginning of the series
  • I have a sneaking suspicion that Claire is gonna die and the first time we see the 4 together is at her funeral.

I hope they don't kill Claire as a way of bringing them together. It'd be cliche and far too predictable

I want stick to manipulate them into coming together.

It's the only way that Luke and Jessica will be able to get married and part of Luke's appeal as a character is that he's a family man. Claire is clearly going to die because it's the only way to move the characters forward.

No it's not, it's unimaginative and lazy writing.

If Claire dies I'll be mad. Such a stupid decision

I'm glad this is only 8 episodes though. Allows for some tighter story telling. DD S2, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage could've benefitted from less episodes imo

So is this scheduled to come out in 2017 or was that speculation?

Punisher was announced for 2017 too. Along with Iron Fist.
I'm glad if Netflix is bumping to 3 series a year

Just hope they can all match the quality of these early shows.

The launch date for Defenders hasn't been confirmed. I think we are all just assuming 2017.

I'm pretty sure Netflix made it a requirement for the Defenders to be released in 2017. At least that's what I heard

Was this confirmed? 8 episodes? 13 please...
