The Director of THOR 3

I'd love to see Branagh back too. Ron Howard is an intriguing choice but I'm not sure if he would ever do that kind of film.

Matthew Vaughn

Vaughn is pretty much part of Fox by this point. He's way too busy over there and Fox will give him money to make whatever he wants. He's not going to direct an MCU film.

Seems Matthew Vaughan is the top choice for most fans for most MCU films now.

I'm still thinking Jonathan Frakes would be great for this.

It`s been suggested to death, but I would still like Peter Jackson. Highly unlikely though.

As much as it pains me to say I think this is the case, plus Kingsman seems to be doing well enough to get a sequel and there are rumblings from Vaughn of a Kick Ass 3 and Hit Girl prequel. Would love him to do Thor 3 but it ain't happening.

At this point, i wouldn't mind Branagh to return, yes, he can be a bit of a hir or miss, but considering his great relationship with Disney and Marvel, as well as his passion for the franchise (I believe he stated numerous times how much he loved the comics as a kid), give him another chance.

Give him another "chance?" You say that as if he didn't pan out the first time around. WTF?

It panned out for sure, but it's not like Thor was a home run either.

I'd be perfectly fine with Branagh coming back, but I wouldn't be as excited as if they announced, say, Brad Bird or Matt Reeves.

Maybe not a home run when it comes to universal acceptance but there are a lot of people who love the first Thor - myself included. Of the "universally acclaimed" Marvel Studios films only the Avengers and Winter Soldier top it for me.

Marvel was still young when Branagh delivered one of Marvel's riskiest characters and he totally delivered. If Thor failed there would not have been an Avengers film. He cast two of the best leads in the MCU in Hemsworth and Hiddleston and filmed arguably the MCU's most fantastical premise on a much smaller budget.

The key thing for me with Branagh is that he loves Thor. He loves the character. That makes a huge difference. Look at the passion directors like Gunn and the Russos were able to bring and it showed despite not having the strongest of resumes beforehand. And with everything Marvel has learned and the money they are putting into these movies now and with Branagh's increased experience with action films and special effects, I'm pretty confident if he came back he'd be able to deliver a winner of a film.

......why?

I'd be fine with Brannagh returning but this isn't true at all. Avengers was already filming before Thor (& Cap) was even released.

I just don't get how everyone ranks CA/WS above Thor (scratchin' head).

The first Cap severly lacked action, and the Winter Soldier actually had way too much action. There were fight scenes every 2 minutes it seemed like.

The top two for me are Thor and The Avengers ...probably in that order.

I love Thor but I think CA: TFA is slightly better.

......why?

Frakes is an experienced sci-fi/action director who is already tied to Marvel Studios (Agents of SHIELD). If Frakes has a good script then he'll direct the hell out of it, ie Star Trek: First Contact.

Totally agree with all of this, Thor is still one of my favourite MCU movies and only Avengers, TWS and GOTG have surpassed it for me. Though I do find Avengers and TWS get worse with repeat viewings were as I find the opposite happens with the first Thor movie. Real shame about the sequel it was so disappointing.

Careful!!! According to Cap fans WS is the be all end all of all Marvel Movies...Its the Holy Grail, The shining City on top of the Hill , Kings bow down before its mere mention, The sick have been healed at matinee showings, .....
Seriously though, It was a great movie but no where near perfect...

I think WS had a bit too much of action, i mean, we had 5 minutes in between most big action scenes. I loved that movie and the action was very well done, but i actualy wish to have seen more scenes with Steve Rogers doing more casual things, the film sometimes felt more like a SHIELD movie with Cap caught in the middle of the conflict.

Exactly for me as well. The more I watch the first Thor, the better it becomes. With the others (including The Avengers) meh...the same, or even falloff.

It's funny, because whomever is in the room, when Thor is on ...they can't walk away! It takes a hold on them. :ilv:

LOL, not to me it ain't, I thought GOTG and especially DOFP were better movies and both have more replay value as well.

Agreed, the movie needed more intimate moments for me.

Yep, same.

For me the entire MCU has had great replay value, including my least favorite of them. I don't really know what it is that makes it so, as there are some difference between the movies, but they just work better than most other superhero movies in that regard for me (although there are of course others that work as well as the MCU).

Perhaps I should have said - If Thor failed there would not have been a successful Avengers film. Even so they knew what kind of film they had on their hands with Thor before they started Avengers.

Since Cinderella came out last week, I've been hoping every day to see a "Branagh returns for Thor: Ragnarok" headline. Alas.

Well, we can still hope, they will have to announce a director soon I i aging.
