Boring topic? Could be. But I am 16 and I have been studying for the permit test out of the booklet. It is boring as hell. I took the chapter 1 test on the nysdmv.com and scored an 88%.

But I ask people if it's easy. They say it is, and say it's mostly just common sense with the occasional question from the booklet like blood alchohal level and signs.

So how easy is the permit test? Do I really have to put alot of effort into studying?

Don't drive until you are at least 18. Save your money, and save your life. When you ignore my message, just be careful when you do drive on your own. Never have more than one other person your age in the car. As the Statistics of Teenage death increases by 25% for every other Teenager in the Car.

I studied for my first test and failed...I didn't study at all the 2nd time around, and I passed with only like 3 wrong :D

You're in for one of the toughest ordeals of your young life. It's really not even worth it to be honest. Save yourself the stress and possible death by car accident. :oldrazz:

It's not hard at all.

Move to NYC and don't even bother getting a car.

It's no biggie, just study on it like any other test. I passed it, and the driving test on my first try. :yay:

For the most part, the permit test is easy. It's going to be filled with stuff you studied, but also a lot of stuff you've probably observed while riding as a passenger. For me, the only stuff I got wrong related to distance (how many feet before signaling, stuff like that), but then again I might have minor dyscalculia.

The hardest part will be the actual driving. You have to make sure you know your stuff. Pay attention to everything your teacher will tell you. Everything. And for god's sake, always check your blind spots and signal before merging. I know we're on opposite sides of the country, but there's still every chance we might drive near one another one day, and I don't want you crashing into me.

And sometimes when you fail its not even your fault...your instructor might just hate you.

The tests are easy. Do yourself a favor though and during the driving part of the exam follow every single law TO THE LETTER. Stop for a full five seconds at stop signs, signal 100 feet before the turn, etc. In fact you should probably continue to follow the laws after that too. ;)

Doctor jones, dont listen to these people that say dont drive until your 18, thats just stupid. Anyways, im 17 and I took the permit test a while ago. The best advice I have is to study all the LITTLE stuff! Because they always catch you on the little stuff. They have a practice test online somewhere that actually helps you out alot

Permit test = super easy, and common sense. If someone fails that, I'd be scared for them to be on the road :csad:

The driver's test in my state was difficult simply due to stupid things. I also got extremely nervous. I had to take it like, 4 or 5 times because I'd panic and run out of time. The test was given on a course, not on the open road. I failed for things like, being an inch too far away from the curb when I parallel parked :down

My state is also infamous for having overstressed *******s giving the test...I ended up going to a DMV near my college where things are slower-paced and people are friendlier.

I get mine on Thursday and it should be easy cause I just gotta turn in a yellow sheet(from drivers ED), and 'Doctor Jones' may I ask what state your from? Cause I live in Alabama and we are apparently known for 'One of the lowest driving ages in any state'

The written test is really, really easy.

The driving test will be okay if you know the basics of the road, and you listen to what the instructor says and correct your mistakes right away.

I did things like stop on crosswalks. The instructor would go "There could have been people there", and I would look at them like they were crazy and go "There weren't, though."

So I almost failed for being a jackass.

But I passed. The trick is to use the smallest car possible so if there's a "backing" or "parallell parking" portion of it, it will be much easier. But let's face it, if the tests were that hard, no one would be out there driving. People are.

I'm from New York state.

Yeah, I'd like to get it soon. I turned 16 last April and I wasn't much in a hurry to get it. Wanted to have more time to observe more. But my mom did take me out to practice in a parking lot, I did pretty well. I was about to turn out of it until somehting happened to the car.

People tell me it is really easy. I was studying it earlier today and it's boring as hell I picked it up and glared through it two months ago and said, "**** this." The first chapter you don't even need to know.

I may seem crazy but the sugn for the hill looks nothign like a hill. It's a goddamn truck going down an inclined plane. Does it have to look that difficult? Just make a simple hill.

Thanks for the advice guys. And I don't definately want to take it at 18. I'd look weird and I'd like to get a job this summer. Plus, yeah you always have to have a parent in the car with you.

Have you taken a class? When I was 17, I took a driver's ed class over the summer. It was only a few weeks (as opposed to a whole semester), and there's a chance you'll absorb knowledge better through a teacher than you can by reading in your free time.

I took my permit test on a computer took me 3 times but I got it

I just got my license last week, so a lot of this stuff is still fresh with me.

The permit test is very easy. Most of the questions are very simple and require little studying. Still, I'd recommend going over the booklet anyway.

The driving itself is difficult (I myself just barely passed), the parking in particular being a real *****. Just listen to whatever your instructor tells you, don't fight him on anything, and be extremely cautious (though don't be too cautious).

That being said, if you do pass, and you truly do enjoy driving, then it's one of the greatest feelings in the world and totally worth it.

No, not yet. I don't know I don't know, I don't know if I want to or not.

Do you have to take it?

For adults, no. They just need to pass the test.

For teenagers, you'll have to check your state's laws. I think they vary.

When I took mine the first time I studied a little bit, but most of the answers were common sense. They let me look in the driver's manual while I was taking the test too. Obviously I passed with a 100%. If they let you use the book though then there's no excuse for failing the test unless you just don't care. I didn't have to do an actual driving test because I had taken Driver's Education courses in middle school. All I had to do was pass the written test and I walked out of the DMV with a driver's license. Well, more like a driver's license receipt. They print them out in black and white on a little piece of paper (always looks like hell) and you have to keep that until your actual DL arrives in the mail.

When I renewed my license this year I didn't study at all, they let me use the book and it only took me about 15 minutes to look up all of the answers. I passed with a 100% again and didn't have to do any actual driving. I think part of the reason why I didn't have to take a driving test is because I have a clean driving record, no accidents and no tickets. That's actually a bit of luck though because I speed a lot.

Of course this all depends on your State's driving laws. I live in Kansas where they don't give a damn who gets to drive. I heard on the local news the other day that some guy who lives in Wichita (it's one of the biggest cities in Kansas, which isn't saying much) just got arrested for like his 11th DUI or something. He's only spent a total of about 3 months behind bars for all of those offenses and his driver's license still hasn't been suspended.

For the actual driving test do you guys have to parallel park? Its not required for ours anymore.
