The "Easter Eggs/References" Thread (Spoilers)

Not really. If you go by time line in the comics, Cap wasn't around when Thor, Iron-Man, Giantman wasp and Hulk got together. They find Cap in Ice. and I'm betting we see them as the ending Credits scene in Cap.

that makes sense now, I really need to get up on my avengers knowledge by this years end.

Look up Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes on you tube. It's an animated show that just started and follows somewhat close to the comic. The first season was pretty Thorcentric and it is in stores now for 15 bucks.

Alot of us loved that show. I'm sure you'll get a great idea on what to expect. lol

I swear during the Destroyer scene there was an allusion to Terminator 2: Judgment Day when you see the chrome-like Destroyer slowly walking out of some flames :)

I was a bit taken back by Selvig's comments about SHIELD coming in and making Banner disappear. That didn't happen in TIH so I worry now that Whedon is almost going to pretend TIH didn't happen in the Avengers.
I thought he was referring to Sterns, I remember he was somewhat of an expert on Gamma rays' effect on cells or some such thing. At the end of TIH, I remember him on a stretcher going into an ambulance-he could have been sent to SHIELD from there and neer been heard of again.

That could be an idea too, but, technically since Hulk took off Banner would be missing too. He was working on the Super Soldier formula.

Either way it would still tie in to the Hulk.

He was definitely referring to Banner. A Sterns reference just wouldn't make sense. It's been confirmed that Selvig worked at Culver with Banner. Besides Banner did go on the run from the government and their agencies in TIH, so it fits.

The Incredible Hulk has been confirmed X1000 to be in continuity.

Well I thought I was the cleverest nerd on the Internet for five minutes but I see that I was soundly beaten to the rune translations.

My reply over here was this:

Rune translations:
Tablet:
THOSE
WHO SIT
ABOWE (ABOVE)
IN SHADOW

Is a reference to these rather obscure guys: http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix2/thosewhositthor.htm introduced first in X-Men/Alpha Flight by Chris Claremont back in '85, later used for the "final Raganarok" story that was Thor's 2004 "Avengers Disassembled" tie-in.
I'm not actually familiar with a tablet that would be connected to Those Who Sit Above In Shadow. Other than naming the group, I'm not sure what the significance of this as an artifact could be.

The text behind the Eternal Flame just says:
ETERNAL FLAME

Most puzzling: the text behind that "orb" says:
TUNING FORK

How that thing relates to a tuning fork, I have no idea. Note that the photos of the tablet and the Infinity Gauntlet were taken at the same alcove; you can make out the same patterns and "TUNING FORK" runes on the wall behind them. I suppose it's possible that the text doesn't relate to the "orb" either, but I'd think someone on set would have been thinking about that.

Counting the tablet and its connection to the 2004 story, Surtur's Infinity Sword, and the Eternal Flame (which Surtur needs to light his sword and burn the Nine Realms,) that's three objects in that room that point to Ragnarok, definitely influenced by the version told in Walt Simonson's great Thor run (which, I should note, was also where the Casket of Ancient Winters came from,) possibly influenced a bit by the more recent comics, hopefully influenced by the awesome comics on this theme from Kirby. A film featuring all the forces of Asgard taking on a Godzilla-sized Surtur could be pretty fantastic.

They might use the broken Bifrost as an excuse to confine this action to Asgard and all the realms other than Earth; the scale and stakes would otherwise logically demand the attention of SHEILD and the Avengers, in which case this would need to be the story of Avengers 2, not Thor 2. I think they probably don't want to have the team taking on Thor villains in every Avengers movie.

If Ragnarok is Thor 2, what could be Thor 3? Where can you go after that, other than introducing Thanos (already hinted at by the Gauntlet) or another high-level cosmic threat?
My point: all signs in that room seem to point to a fight against Surtur starting Ragnarok in Thor 2.

HA, as soon as I saw the words 'Tuning Fork' I thought of Black Bolt hehehe.

Keep forgetting to post this easter egg. Even tho it'll be awhile for F4 to return to Marvel at least SOME things appear like the shape of the Ultimate Nullifier.

Maybe that's the injoke? What if it's a capsule of Terrigen Mist? I mean, I have no idea, but there IS an Inhumans movie in development at Marvel Studios...

Finally spotted the Infinity Gauntlet in Thor, when the Destroyer killed the Frost Giants! Sweet) I hope we will see more artifacts from Odin's Vault in the First Avenger: Captain America movie.

According to Collider during their set visit, there's only 9 items from/in Odin's weapons room. Once we identify that weird green orb table thingie, that makes 9.

1) Mjolnir (seen in prologue)
2) Infinity Gauntlet (seen when Frost Giants killed by Destroyer)
3) Eternal Flame (seen in prologue)
4) "Those Who Sit Above in Shadow" tablet (seen before Frost Giant attack)
5) Warlock's Eye (seen before Frost Giant attack)
6) Twilight Sword (seen before Frost Giant attack)
7) Casket of Ancient Winters
8) Cosmic Cube / Tesseract (missing item Feige keeps hinting at)
9) Whatever the orb table thingie is...

Hulk Buster????????????????????????

I was reading an article on product placement in movies, and it explained that Acura is the official car of SHIELD. It says that Agent Coulson's car is the most expensive Acura ever made, but that's because most Acuras don't include a Hulk Buster sound cannon.

Did I miss this giant sound cannon, or did Acura just give us a spoiler of Avengers????

Here's the article:

Acuras are being used for the law enforcement agency S.H.I.E.L.D. starting in May. S.H.I.E.L.D. is a part of the upcoming Thor movie, which heads to theaters in May.

Acura is the official vehicle of S.H.I.E.L.D., a fictional law enforcement agency that now stands for Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division. Vehicles from Acura will receive up to two minutes of screen time in the movie.

Although the MDX, ZDX, RL, and TL were shot in various scenes of Thor, an Acura representative tells us that scenes with the newly refreshed 2012 TL sedan were left on the cutting room floor. Nevertheless, we can still tell you a few details about the 2012 S.H.I.E.L.D. TL with the Tactical Package sending the price with options to $227,085. The most expensive real Acura ever made was the NSX, which never carried an MSRP of $100,000 or more.

Without a doubt, this is the priciest Acura we’ve ever seen but, then again, most Acuras probably don’t have a roof-mounted Sound-Cannon called The Hulk Buster or anti-ballistic shielding body panels. A 9-speed HYPER-shift transmission is standard equipment, as are bulletproof hyper-traction tires and a steering wheel with palm-scan ID. Get all the details by clicking on the (fake) Monroney sticker image in this blog.

The car is also said to have a nitrous fuel-injection system and diamond quartz cross-drilled brake calipers that might be a good match for the blacked-out versions of the Acura accessory 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. Using Paladium fuel, the power estimates are 234 miles in the city and 302 miles on the highway, far better than the regular front-wheel-drive TL’s 20/29 mpg city/highway. Of course, we see that actual Paladium use will vary depending on an agent’s driving skill and rank.

Thor arrives in theaters on May 6.

No, as far as I know, there won't be any Hulkbuster armor in The Avengers. Nuff said'

I know I'm in the minority here, but I'm not a big fan of the Hulkbuster armor, I've always been a fan of Iron Man's normal form fitting armor.

Besides, what's the point of the Hulkbuster with Thor and the rest of the Avengers around, I don't want them to make Hulk overpowered (see Hulk Vs.).

That's a reference to the part in Incredible Hulk when the army hits him with the sound cannons.
