The Expanse

I think it is fine, even appropriate to have some characters with "bland" names like this. Not everyone is going to have some kind of awesome or unique name.

I can't get over Brad Johnson. Not the character, he's great, and I love the way Chad Coleman plays him, and I love his dynamic with Holden. But "Brad Johnson" is such a dud of a name for a sci-fi character, especially one this significant in the story.

These are people that came from earth or are descendants of people from earth. They have ordinary earth names just like you and I do. They are blue collar people from the ass end of the solar system. They arent going to have exotic scifi names.

Besides, the name Brad is no different than Naomi, Fred, Holden, Amos, or Miller. It fits in with the story and the names of the other characters.

It reminds me of the famous running gag on the MST3K episode "Space Mutiny" where they give the hero lots of goofy nicknames like "Smoke Manmuscle" and "Big McLargehuge" until one of them spits out "Bob Johnson! Oh wait..."

Like I said, I love the character. :woot:

Good episode. This was the best episode since the Martian battle episode.

Fred Johnson, not Brad. Dunno how I mixed that up.

"People call me the the Butcher of Anderson Station, but you can call me...Fred."

I'm loving this show. Another great episode.

Does it make a difference if he is a Fred instead of a Brad ? :)

So it took me a while to actually get into this. Now I'm invested and really starting to get a for the show.

Really enjoying this. Please don't anyone spoil it.

Looks like tomorrow we get 2 episodes including the season final

Good episodes, though I wished they'd stuck closer to the books :)

Excellent finale.

I didn't really care for the previous episode bits in the beginning, but once it went into Julie's part, the whole thing was wonderful. Great slow burn, character, and world building that sets up the next season quite nicely. This show needs more love.

^ lol @ that scene. Amos is slowly becoming a likable character.

About Amos, after the last few episodes he is already likable for me. At the beginning I was rather indifferent to the character and found the actor physic unusual ( short, bulky, strong head, not your typical young actor look but it's fine ).
Anyways, after episode 7 I understood the character, he is no more a simple muscle man and one of my favorite with Miller.
I also like the dynamic between Holden and Naomi, the building of the trust toward each other.

Like it. Glad it has another season already. I never knew about the books...might check them out.

A few points:
-Just finished reading the first book as the show started. Looks like there's enough time between seasons to read the other five.
-I loved the rewinding the clock and showing previous events from Julie's POV. It actually helped clear some things up that I was confused about. And her slow descent was perfectly harrowing.
-Didn't really get as much sense of the creeping horror that was consuming Eros until the very end. That's where the vomit zombies were supposed to come in.
-So happy we finally got Ghost Julie too. That was a big part of Miller's arc in the book.

A bit of trivia : there is a place called TechNoir on Ceres. TechNoir is better known as the dance club in Terminator.

I've just finished episode 8 and I have to say, although I don't entirely understand what's going on, I'm enjoying the hell out of myself. The world-building is spectacular. The stations and their cultures fascinate me.

I agree with whomever said Fred Johnson was a funny name, especially for a "terrorist".

A question: why are Holden et al helping Johnson? Why didn't they agree to look for "Lionel Pulanski" and then just beat it back to Earth (or wherever they came from?). I wouldn't feel any need to take orders from this dude.

^^
As Holden said, they are deeply involved in the Canterbury and Donnager incidents, Holden's face is everywhere, their only option at the moment was Johnson, Holden had to cut a deal, plus he feels responsible.
None of the crew comes from Earth except Holden who left for its own reasons, they can't go back on Ceres, too hot of a place now, Mars is out of question and Earth not even an option.

Johnson isn't a "terrorist", he was labeled as The Butcher when he served in the U.N military after the Anderson station destruction. Now he is OPA, people that want their independence ( just like Mars is a Republic in this present ).

Edit : everything is linked to what happened on Phoebe, references in ep04, the exchange between Holden and the Martian Lopez, ep06 when Miller recovers the file from the data broker and shows it to his boss.

I'm still confused about Lionel Polanski. Was that a guy Julie was with on the Scopuli, and that's why she used the alias?

It was an alias I think.
From The Expanse wiki :
After Fred thinks about it he explains the job; Lionel Polanski, a fake alias created by Mr. Tycho to own things he doesn't want known publicly such as the Scopuli, has checked into a hotel on Eros.

I'm also a little confused as to why the Cant crew brought the spy on Eros. Why did they want him, and what was to prevent him from running to the police?

Spy guy had contacts on Eros and Holden would not jettison him.
About the police, spy guy was here to gather data on Holden & Crew, his goal was not to get them arrested. The Police on Eros is rather corrupted it seems.
Before entering the Blue Logon hotel, spy guy received a message from his handler on his eye cam saying that there will be no police intervention.
