The Expanse

For "hard" sci fi this is considered a hit.

I'm so confused as to what's going on now. I should have rewatched the last few eps of season 2.

The Martian Marine is pretty BadAss

I have a prediction about the Arboghast. Minor book spoilers:

So far in the show, everyone thinks that Eros burned up in Venus and that's the end of it, even though they could see as early as the end of Book 1 that the proto-molecule's "work" was continuing down there. Fairly early in book 2, the warship Arboghast is destroyed in Venus orbit (stripped apart in layers and disassembled). It's a big deal for Avasarala as she watches the footage over and over in abject horror.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the show makes that the inciting incident that snaps everyone's attention back to Venus.
CALLED IT :woot:
Plus that opening shot zipping all around the solar system was dope af.

I'm kind of impressed at how much of what we see on the premiere occurs off-screen in the books, in particular the escape from Mao's space yacht. And all of that was a blast.

Even the way that Fred Johnson gets ahold of the protomolecule is completely reworked, I assume to give it more gravity and divide the Roci crew (instead of Holden pretty much handing Fred the sample at the end of book 1).

Pretty much the only thing that does occur in the text the decision to go to Io because of the PM energy spikes.

Yessss, this show brings storylines together in such satisfying ways.

The battle from inside the perspective of the Roci was damn impressive.

Oh I do love this show - ever since the end of Season 2 I've been wanting that Marine & Politician to meet up with the crew; it certainly seems that most of our good guys are on the same page, and it's nice to see them all coming together.

Curiously, but does anyone have a preferred faction at this point? At least as far as a sympathetic cause goes...

I'm conventional when it comes to this show; I love our heroes, especially those on the Contorta.

The episode was overall great but I laughed at the part where the politician's "inspiring" speech was shown. No way in hell his OTT literal flag waving wouldn't be ridiculed mercilessly.

I don't know how I feel about bringing Anna into the story so early. With Chrisjen in s1 it made sense because it gave us a window to Earth (plus more Avasarala). But Anna's just off to the side sipping wine like "I'll just be over here till the plot needs me."

Plus Anna's a redhead. Amos even calls her "Red". That might be the stranger choice.

It's strange that, in an episode featuring a nuclear attack, the most surprising thing that occurred during was the revelation that Jules Pierre Mao has a heart.

Errinwright, OTOH, is a massive piece of ****. I loathe that guy and his preemptive strikes and wish him nothing but ill. At least Avasarala's story is getting out.

I want to feel sorry for Alex for being rejected by his family, but what did he expect after abandoning them?

Thanks god Jules-Pierre change of heart didn't last long.
One small complain is that I don't have the feeling that a war is going on, it is talked about but you see very little of it.

:argh: I'm going to enjoy watching that POS Nguyen die.

Thank God nothing happened to Mei. I don't think I could handle seeing her as a hybrid.

I hope Errinwright's video gets uploaded to the internet. I'm surprised it hasn't happened already.

I was actually kinda surprised at how quickly the video reached Anna, I figured it would at least take a couple of episodes or something.

Noooooo! Someone better pick it up, dammit.

At least Alcon own the rights to it and can shop it around.

Perfect time for Netflix to come to the rescue.

aren't the ratings really good for Syfy? Is it just because the budget is too high?

God damnit.

Yes, likely because of the budget.

Netflix was reported to be making more Science fiction and fantasy content because it does well for them so I could see them possibly being interested in picking up The Expanse.

So let me get this straight. They cancel Dark Matter out of the blue without any satisfying ending. They renew Killjoys in spite of a lackluster season 3. And then they cancel Expanse in spite of its popularity and quality.

Syfy doesnt deserve these shows. Bunch of cheap ignorant *****ebags.

God damnit.

Yes, likely because of the budget.

Nope. Syfy isnt happy with their contract arrangement.

The cancellation decision by Syfy is said to be linked to the nature of its agreement for the series, which only gives the cable network first-run linear rights in the US. That puts an extraordinary amount of emphasis on live, linear viewing which is inherently challenging for sci-fi/genre series which tend to draw the lion share of their audiences from digital/streaming.

So there ya have it. One of the best reviewed shows on television and syfy is cancelling it because want more rights to the show.

Supposedly this show is one of Amazon's most streamed shows. If that's the case, maybe Amazon will save it.
