I called him Max because he was called Max in the movie by the army guy who comes to tell him his men are dead. Bennet calls him John so it's up to you. I think Commando is better and the iconic part of Predator is the monster himself. Unless there was a series of Dutch movies I missed, including crossovers.

I dont recall Major General Franklin Kirby calling him Max  - I guess I'll have to watch it again to see. All other referencial material for the movie lists the character as Colonel John Matrix.

Of course Matrix isnt his real name. From how Kirby talked to him one assumes he served his time in the military, did some crazy stuff, retired and changed his name ... like the rest of his men who somehow started getting killed.

That's all conjecture though, isnt it? We can only go by what we actually know - the Major refers to him as John and he's listed as John Matrix in the credits.

Arnold's interpretation of Conan? Jason Momoa's interpretation of Conan?

Or the real REH Conan? lol

It's pretty well known the characters name is john matrix.
Not really. Granted I haven't seen Commando in 15yrs. Probably cause it's not "iconic" enough for me.

You say Arnie and Dutch in the same sentence I know exactly who you mean. Really don't need the Arnie mention cause Dutch ranks with the top 80's "names" imo, not Matrix/Max whatever...I mean no one even right here agrees on the preferred name. Let alone him being "pretty well known" as a character by most movie fans.

I finally saw it last night and it was brilliant. Van Damme was great as the villian though he didn't have much screentime. I wish the final fight last longer but I still like it. Those spin kick was just amazing to watch.

This is the exact point i made earlier actually. What i meant was for those familiar with the film his name has never been anything but John Matrix not "max matrix" as another poster claimed was his name possibly.

I also FINALLY saw it last nigh: blew. me. away.

It was everything I had hoped for. I was actually really sad when
Billy the Kid died
. Gave the movie great fuel. And JCVD was chilling in that scene. "Are you afraid of me?" He was, somehow, perhaps the best actor in the film.

Loved the increased screen time of Willis and Arnie. Both felt like full-time characters this go around. And the big three fighting side by side: amazing. Willis was particularly awesome. The man knows how to deliver a sarcastic line.

Great film. Like I said: it was exactly what I wanted. Great action, pace, comedy, and legendary moments.

Domestic: $75,417,000
Foreign: $102,400,000
Total: $177,817,000

With about six weeks to go (based off of The Expendables being in theaters around ten weeks), it has about $100 million to go to beat the first movie, but it doesn't look like that will be happening. This according to Box Office Mojo.

I saw this last week. Loved it. JCVD was brilliant as a bad guy. I have manlove for Willis. He's my favourite. The Chuck Norris jokes were hilarious, as was the banter between Willis and Arnie. Better than the first by a long way, IMO. Pure 80s heaven.

Quite literally my thoughts exactly. Every letter.

Van Damme has much better acting skills than the rest action heroes. He was amazing in "JCVD" Time Magazine named second best performance next to Heath Ledger's Joker in 2008.

Arnold/Sly are most iconic action heroes though.

Wow. Looks like I need to check it out

I thought Mac was the bad guy Bennett's first name. Will have to get the movie & watch it again sometime to refresh my memory.

The domestic BO in general has been miserable... when this thing hits blu-ray it will do business... there will be a 3rd film... how can you not market the return of Snipes and possibly the addition of Seagal and whoever else lines up for a role?

I'm not sure the mainstream movie going audience would ever accept REH Conan... which is why Momoa's failed. Hardcore REH fans will never accept Milius's film, but it was the better movie hands down.

Well, its clear that it wont make the same numbers as the first movie at this point, I just hope it does well enough to make enough for another sequel to happen.

BOM sucks with overseas numbers. It's a lot closer to $200 million than it's reporting.

^Good stuff, its made over double its budget at least, lets hope it can get to $300 million WW and then I imagine we would get a threequel.

I've seen this twice now and ment to post my thoughts last weekend but I keep kept forgetting. I didn't post my thoughts after my first viewing because I sick when I went to see it the first time and wanted to see it a second time to see if I still liked it as much, more or maybe even less. But I ended up feeling about the same on the second viewing. I give the movie a 8/10. The are a few things I like better than the first movie and there are things I thought wheren't as good. I actually liked Liam Hemsworth as Billy the Kid. I thought the first mission in TE2 was better than TE1. But I thought the last fight in TE1 and TE2 where about even. The last fight in TE1 may have the slight edge. The one thing that I think probaly could have been better was character development for Jean Vilain and his crew. Overall I think it's a great action movie and if you still have the chance go see it again or for the first time.

Finally saw it.
A lot better than part 1, for sure.

I still feel that with this amount of talent involved, there's a much better movie to be made.

The first one was a fun watch. This one is "The Avengers" for anyone who was a child growing up in the 80's. Should've gotten Bolo Yeung to star in this as JCVD's right hand man.

I'd like to see Arnie get an expanded role in the next one with his own team maybe comprising of Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, Carl Weathers and Mr.T with Seagal as the villain.

There's a featurette titled Earth's mighties Anti-heroes  This is definately "the Avengers" of action stars.
