Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables. - Part 1

I was bummed at the idea of no more Stallone-fronted Expendables, but after seeing him in GoTG vol.2 I'm now not that bothered as I cant wait to see him in the MCU more.

Yeah they should just give up on another Expendables now Stallone isn't involved. We can look forward to seeing him Guardians 3 now instead.

Stallone's been on social media saying the 4th one is a go. I'm down for one last ride. They need to make up for part 3 and end on a high note.

Yeah the 3rd was a disappointment so hopefully they go all out for the 4th movie Andy end on a high note.

My Wishlist:

Good Guys:
Stallone
Statham
Schwarzenegger
Crews
Snipes
Jackie Chan
Lundgren
Banderas
Linda Hamilton
Rhonda Rousey

Bad Guys:

Willis (main baddie: have his character turn bad for some reason, i dont care how just do it lol)
Iko Uwais
Carl Weathers (we can have a sort of meta "Rocky vs. Apollo" rematch)
Sigourney Weaver

Honorable mention:

Keanu Reeves (I think he could function well as an ally or a bad guy)

Sigourney, Linda Hamilton, Michael Biehn, would be the obvious ones along with Carl.

I'd say Paxton too, but yeah. :( Ack. That still bums me out, poor guy.

Danny Glover might be a bit long in the tooth by now unfortunately, but maybe as some less-action focused old-timer mentor thing could be sweet. But Eastwood's who you want to go with, if you're going to do a "the guy who first hired Ross & Trench & Tool" thing.

But basically they just need to get back to something more like the first movie, a little smaller & meaner. Hopefully a bit more of a budget could be cool, to lure in some other big names (I dunno, Neeson, Brosnan maybe?), but they definitely need to go both a little harder and have it feel more like a theatrical release. That third one especially felt pretty damn direct-to-video.

Rhonda Rousey can go. She's terrible. Bring in Michelle Yeoh.

there should be another one. Why hasn't it happened yet?

They also tried to blame internet piracy for it's terrible box office when it was leaked early and bad word of mouth got out ahead of it. I would be surprised if a fourth one did actually get anywhere though.

I'd like to see more physical action in this one, thats one area I feel ALL of the prior movies could improve. I mean, I understand Stallone's up there in age but he's still in incredible shape. That fight he had with Mel Gibson in the last movie was absolutely pathetic. That should've been a epic brawl between two icons. Same with his fight with Van Damme in part 2, whom we all know can still kick ass. They need to up the choreography game big time.

Yeah the 1st film had the best actual fights with Austin vs Stallone still being the best in the series, but even that film had closeup/quick cut madness in it. You do expect better choreography and presentation in things like this, especially when we can put on John Wick or Raid film these days and get it.

Not unless this isn't really anything more than it actually is. The 3rd movie definitely had the wrong idea of what people paid to watch.

They just need to get an actual director this time, y'know? Stallone would do fine if he wants to do it. If he doesn't, I dunno, maybe Walter Hill or someone like that if you could convince someone of that caliber. Some 80s guy. Let them script it too, give them more control, Stallone collaborating with someone like Hill again woud probably turn out something decent - Bullet To The Head was okay for what it was.

Hell, McTiernan's probably going pretty ****ing cheap these days too, hit him up and see if he'd do it.

The two small-time guys that did each of the sequels is probably a big part (along with Lionsgate and a Lionsgate budget) of why they felt so weak & cruddy.

EDIT: The Chris, I don't know you'd want a Expendables flick with The Raid/John Wick type of action, though, it's sort of a whole other thing. The whole deal with these is they're sort of a love letter to all those 80s/90s (mostly western in style/feel/fights) action flicks. You want it looking and feeling like a classic Stallone or Arnold romp, nothing too glitzy & flashy. I love Wick, but that's straight-up Woo type stuff, a pretty different beast to what The Expendables is going for.
