Is that the new one that you've just moved into? Must be cool being near the sea.theoneandonly said:![]()
my FLAT is on the seafront
I tried that once and it came out HORRIBLE! It was not a good idea....Iceman/Psylocke said:OK See you later.I would be tempted to change all the characters and situations so that they no longer resemble X-Men and pass it off as something original.

What did you do? Change names/powers/situations???squeekness said:I tried that once and it came out HORRIBLE! It was not a good idea....![]()
I live by the ocean. It's really nice except that sometimes it can get a bit damp.Iceman/Psylocke said:Is that the new one that you've just moved into? Must be cool being near the sea.
Yeah, changed names and genders and that sort of thing. It just wasn't the same.Iceman/Psylocke said:What did you do? Change names/powers/situations???
Which ocean? I forgot/not sure if you've said where you live.squeekness said:I live by the ocean. It's really nice except that sometimes it can get a bit damp.![]()
Over 1m words would be a nightmare to edit. Although if the material is good enough it might be worth it. You could be an author and you wouldn't have to write any new books. 12 is plenty. The pictures would probably end up becoming useless though.squeekness said:Yeah, changed names and genders and that sort of thing. I live in Southeastern Massachusetts, right near Cape Cod.Iceman/Psylocke said:Which ocean? I forgot/not sure if you've said where you live.
I have a small private beach two blocks from my house.
Yeah, there's that, too. I've had folks suggest to me to use something like photoshop to color them, but if I did that, the new ones would be so different that they wouldn't match. I have too many of those to do over again.Iceman/Psylocke said:Over 1m words would be a nightmare to edit. Although if the material is good enough it might be worth it. You two are lucky. I'm miles from any beaches and the nearest ones are dumps.squeekness said:I live in Southeastern Massachusetts, right near Cape Cod.I have a small private beach two blocks from my house.

It's still going to be a big achievement when you finish. I'm looking do about 100,000 words per novel so 400 altogether, which is about a third of what you've already done.squeekness said:Yeah, there's that, too. Well, Massachusetts doesn't have the best beaches. They are rocky and full of shells. California beaches are the best I've seen, all smooth sand.Iceman/Psylocke said:You two are lucky. I'm miles from any beaches and the nearest ones are dumps.
Wow, LOL. I've never thought about it that way.Iceman/Psylocke said:It's still going to be a big achievement when you finish. I'm looking do about 100,000 words per novel so 400 altogether, which is about a third of what you've already done.![]()
I've toyed with the idea of getting it published privately for my own use, but I still go back and change stuff, so I dunno.
I've changed my first chapter and retconned characters so many times. Once it's in some form of print you can accept it as a piece of work like a book by any other author. Yeah, certain things could still be improved but hopefully nothing that would make a significant impact on the story. I'm a bit worried of finishing the first book and then wanting to change things by the time I get to situations in later books that would benefit from different events having happened in the first book. The best way would probably be to write all four before getting it in print (would keep themes consistent) but I doubt I can wait that long.squeekness said:Wow, LOL. I know what you mean. I've been writing this thing for so long that I've had to go back to the old stuff to set up for new stuff that I came up with much later on. I've doen a number of signnificant rewrites, especially when I began publishing it online last year. So far all the rewrites have been for the better. What was nice was getting some actual feedback from people. Some of their ideas led to some big improvements for me.Iceman/Psylocke said:I've changed my first chapter and retconned characters so many times. I forgot that you'd put it online. So in a way, your work is already published and available for others to read. I might think about doing that one day, especially if the conventional publishing methods don't work out.squeekness said:I know what you mean. There is also this place -- http://www.strangeminds.com/ A friend of mine posted some poems here and got feedback. I am sure these are only two of many sites, but if you wanted some feedback, it might be worth it to post some of your finished work there.
