The Fast and the Furious: Hobbs and Shaw

I think it is completely plausible for the Just Cause movie to be made after seeing this thing. The writer of John Wick is already penning it, may as well get this director and complete the set.

So all as expected then? :D: I can’t see any of this putting off people who want to see this. If they weren’t dumb I’d be genuinely disappointed. If I saw something resembling a plot I’d want my money back.

Oh, absolutely. I enjoyed pretty much all of it. Though the highlights were actually the banter between Dwayne and Stathe, rather than the action stuff.

The more you think about the film, the dumber it gets,

I particularly enjoyed how they set Jason Statham and Vanessa Kirby up as brother and sister who grew up together, when he’s old enough to be her father.

Also, nitrous oxide injection powering a rear wheel drive car when the back wheels were off the ground was a thing to behold.

Considering most people don't know how cars work that probably didn't bug too many of them.

Oh right. I didn’t know that. Great!

All films, whether they are dumb or not, need all of the above. I always take a checklist in with me and I mark the movie depending on how many of them it included.

I have also noticed that the franchise has yet to go to Europe.

Does England not count as Europe? Anymore I mean. :o

Enjoyable as a popcorn flick, but definitely over the top (as these F&F series so often are). That Samoa scene which took place in the afternoon with blue sky and a shining sun suddenly became a thunderstorm the moment the helicopter went down? Seriously? I know it was all for dramatic effect, but still.

Anything with Ryan Reynolds in these days just seems like Deadpool to me; this, Detective Pikachu, anything.. That other cameo(?) was a nice surprise though. Shouldn't saw that coming, considering that connection.

Not sure I like the fact that
Deckard and Hattie are playing happy families when Deckard seemingly killed Owen (that's implied, right, or have I got that wrong)? Feels a bit of a cop-out if they couldn't have Luke Evans return to the role. Just write him out. No need to kill him off in the background, off screen - especially as they were working together in the latest F&F film.
Overall though, enjoyable.

I had really fun time with this. The Rock and Jason Statham's chemistry was really on point most of the time even if some of the jokes didn't land. I loved the fact that this felt like an action/buddy cop flick straight out of the 80 or 90's. Sure the plot doesn't make a whole lot of sense and all the action sequences are really over the top, but so are the latter F&F movies and I've been enjoying those movies for all those same reasons. I also, really liked how Idris Elba and Vanessa Kirby were utilized in this. Elba looked like he was having a ton of fun as the villain and chewing all scenery here and Kirby is just a badass all together and a very likable character. The cameos from Helen Mirren and
Ryan Reynolds
were pretty fun too, although I didn't care too much for the
Kevin Hart
cameo. His scenes went on for far too long IMO.

7/10

Chances are they are going to need huge business overseas for this film to break even. Either that or they will roll these subplots over into a future F&F movie.

Another reason why all this sequel baiting setup stuff annoys me. You are building up and setting up a sequel you might never get.

is the film not tracking well so far? I feel like this is primed to be an international hit.

Last I checked it was tracking to finish $61-65 million this weekend, which would basically be the lowest opening for F&F franchise since fourth movie 10 years ago. It will need like $660 million worldwide to break even.

The budget on this movie was comparable to previous Fast sequels. It wasn't cheap.

I mean they put every penny on the screen with these flicks, nothing ever looks cheap.

I’m actually very surprised by that. Perhaps the lack of Vin and the crew turned people off?

I mean we'll see how it does this weekend and final tally and all. But I think the big attraction for the most recent films is the whole group together. And the spinoff just breaks them off and spreads them thin.

60M opening isn’t chump change people. It’s the biggest non-animated opening of Rock’s career as a leading man.

Idk man. F8 despite doing so well in international markets only earned like 220 million in America? And it didn't make the top ten for the entire 2017. This franchise is showing its age, and even though they can still milk this franchise with more films.... spin offs/sequel baitings and a very expensive budget are not the way to go. Also its very rare for a franchise to have a spin off to outgross the non spin off films or at least the highest grossing film/s of the series.

Good point. I mean I really want to see this, but I’d rather see all the same characters along with everyone else.

From what I'm reading it sounds like a modern version of an 80's buddy action movie which is exactly what I wanted. :D:

The action is impressive, and stylish without being over the top.

I remember on the first poster Hobbs has a bike and I just saw this pic, does he use it in a chase sequence in the movie?

One of the great mysteries in life is the Chinese love for Vin Diesel...
